Don't listen to Braveheart, King Bob was the most famous Scottish leader. Based in Stirling, Scotland.
"for, as long as but a hundred of us remain alive, never will we on any conditions be brought under English rule. It is in truth not for glory, nor riches, nor honours that we are fighting, but for freedom -- for that alone, which no honest man gives up but with life itself." - Declaration of Arbroath, 1320.

when I am heartbroken, I feel completely naked and vulnerable. That's why I took these pictures. These were taken during my last breakup.
A pair of vintage shunters working well together in the colliery sidings at Beamish.
On the left is Manchester Ship Canal (MSC) No.67, a Hudswell Clarke 0-6-0T shunter (Works No.1369) built in 1919. The locomotive is now owned by Middleton Railway in Leeds.
On the right is Peckett Yorktown Class 0-4-0ST No.2012 "Teddy". This shunter was built for the Ministry of Supply in 1941 and is one of the smallest standard gauge locomotives ever built.

i'm normally pretty good at remembering the names of the places i visited in south america, which is impressive for me as there were quite a lot and i have a shocking memory. however i completely forgot about this little town until i was flicking through some of the photos i took there. it was somewhere between manizales and medellin, although google maps reveals quite a few unfamiliar names in between, so i had to do a bit more detective work. another photo i'd taken had the sign instituto fco javier mejia, which i appended with the word colombia, googled and discovered a blog with familiar looking pictures. scanning the spanish text the name salamina stood out to me, so i returned to google maps, switched to street view and i was instantly taken back to the colourful houses, steep streets and beautiful surrounding countryside. the trip was based on a random recommendation in manizales, and while it may not have stuck in my memory as tightly as other colombian destinations, it was cute little town.
i did a little extending and cloning to get the framing i wanted on this one - here's the original

Late 70's. This is my father with me(right) and my sister about 30 years ago. These basket seats were very common at the Baltic Sea at that time. They were supposed to protect you from chilly wind.
It's scanned from a slide, the texture was already there.
And it's taken by my Mom (probably).

This is an old family estate outside of Boonville, MO. The home is in a continuing state of decline which makes it so much more interesting. Tour this home on weekends during the summer!
Well, I've spent a few days-busy days-moving everything back to a new apartment in Berkley where I'll be for the summer. It feels pretty good tp be back up here and getting more involved with summer classes, so I thought I should post a Berkeley shot for today.
Thanks for looking! I appreciate any comments or feedback.

After waiting for one Amtrak, UP's local that interchanges with the Richmond Pacific is making a fast run back to the Oakland as it blows through Berkeley. The last few weeks have seen this local running with rebuilt GP40M-2/GP40N 1527 and an SD70M, making for an odd pairing and a bit of overkill with today's short consist.
Mumbles is a crowded fishing village and this is one of its many back lanes. I got the wall on the right all wrong. The excuse: too much chat in the drawing group.
Hong Kong Star Ferry terminal, Kowloon, late afternoon.
This was taken in 1998 using my Zenza Bronica ETRS and Fuji slide film, and of course, a tripod. I've uploaded some images from this shoot before, but they were always poor quality scans and now, finally, I have a scanner that can scan medium format film directly and here are the results.
The reason I bought the scanner is because believe it or not, I am planning to get back to film photography; but I will definitely NOT be giving up digital!
Big thanks to Howard and also Craig for recommendations for a medium format film scanner.
Sir Mix-A-Lot
I like big butts and I can not lie
You other brothers can't deny
That when a girl walks in with an itty bitty waist
And a round thing in your face
You get sprung, wanna pull out your tough
'Cause you notice that butt was stuffed
Deep in the jeans she's wearing
I'm hooked and I can't stop staring
Oh baby, I wanna get with you
And take your picture
