This photo was taken during the boat trip between Manaus and Belém, in the north of Brazil. Five days traveling through the Amazon river, sleeping in a hammock and listening to fantastic stories.
This specimen was photographed at the 2008 Ste. Marie aux Mines show where over 600 dealers gather every summer at the second largest wholesale/retail mineral show in Europe.

Bites from this spider are life threatening and urgent medical help is required. They wander the jungle floor and were first discovered in Brazil, hence the name. They can be discovered in bunches of bananas which have been transported to another country. They eat mice, lizards and crickets.
