Male - Small distinctive hummingbird with a straight black bill. Males are mostly green with a rusty rump and tail, and noteworthy for an iridescent pink throat and white spot behind the eye. Females are green above and rusty below with a white teardrop behind the eye and a pale patch on the cheeks. Found in the understory of humid rainforest and visiting feeders at forest edges. ebird.org/species/brarub1

This species is endemic to Brazil, where it generally occurs from Minas Gerais south to Rio Grande do Sul, and it occurs in wooded areas of all types in the Atlantic Forest region, to at least 2,000 m. It regularly visits feeders in small numbers. Both sexes of this hummingbird are attractive and distinctive. Males are primarily clad in deep green, with a brilliant deep red throat patch, a small but obvious white postocular spot, browner wings, and a bright red tail, while females share the spot behind the eye and the tail color of the male, but are otherwise rich orange over the entire underparts and on the rump.

Ilha Grande is a tropical paradise a couple of hours off the coast of Rio de Janeiro. It is part of the city Angra dos Reis which belongs to Costa Verde or the "green coast". From beaches to jungle treks, there is something for everyone here. Boat tours are a common tourist activity and all the locals earn their living through the tourism industry.
In Brazil, it is widely known by the Tupi-derived name caxinguelê (ka'i xingüe), meaning "small monkey" or "tree dweller." It is a medium-sized tree squirrel with dark olive-brown to dark gray fur, a pale buff or yellowish underside, and a long, bushy tail ringed with lighter hair tips.Widespread across South America, particularly in the Atlantic Forest, the Amazon basin, and parts of the Cerrado across Brazil, northeastern Argentina, Paraguay, Guyana, Suriname, and French Guiana. Primarily feeds on hard-shelled nuts (such as Syagrus and Attalea palm seeds), fruits, fungi, insects, and occasionally bird eggs. As seed scatter-hoarders, they play a critical role in forest regeneration by burying seeds they forget to retrieve. Strictly diurnal and mostly solitary, spending the majority of its time high in the forest canopy. They construct round nests out of twigs, leaves, and moss in tree hollows or high branch forks.

AMAZING appearance of this beautiful cuckoo, so close I had to capture a portrait of it , from it spotting me, it just hopped into the dense bushes, not to be seen again. So many different species in such a small area, it was like Christmas and a birthday rolled into one. Zoom in for more detail. Only shame with the image so much shadow .

she is the pulse of it.
We were surprised to spot this tapir on the riverbank. Even more startled than we were, he turned to run, then paused to face us before disappearing into the brush.
Tapirs are large plant-eating animals of Central and South America, and Southeast Asia. There are four types: Brazilian, Malayan, Baird's, and mountain tapirs. They have a long, flexible snout to grab leaves and fruit, and are related to horses and rhinos. Tapirs are great swimmers and use water to escape danger or cool off. They are usually shy, active at night, and prefer to live alone. Sadly, all tapir species are endangered due to habitat loss and hunting.
