BRAZIL CHAMPS, DEFEAT SPAIN 3-0
Brazil emerged the champs defeating Spain 3-0 in the finals of the Confederation Cup today. The early scoring victors proved their superiority against Spain. Fred drew first blood scoring, lying on the ground, in the 2nd minute of the game. Nehmar increased the lead in the 43rd minute with a stinging left footer. In the second half, Fred scored within two minutes of resumption, placing the ball deftly fast the advancing Spanish goalkeeper. David Luiz effected an excellent save for Brazil from the goal-line with the goalkeeper out of position. Spain could not convert a penalty to reduce the score and even lost one player for the Red in the second half. Viva Brazil!

The Brazilian government has deployed federal forces to occupy the group of violence-plagued slums ahead of the June 12 start of the 2014 FIFA World Cup. The group of 16 communities house around 130,000 residents and have been dominated by drug gangs and militias. Mare is located close to Rio's international airport and has been mentioned as a likely pacification target for the police amid the city's efforts to improve security ahead of the 2014 FIFA World Cup and Rio 2016 Olympic Games.
This Antarctica beer mat is authentic, from the 1970s. It is small, like American beer mats of the period, but it uses the word "chopp" (draft beer). This term is used in Brazil, but apparently not in Portugal.
This may have been one of a series featuring several cities. The text: "From north to south, draft beer is Antarctica," and "Visit Recife - drink Antarctica draft beer."

In the last two years I've spent almost 6 months on assignments for various magazines in Brazil. I've partied through carnival in Rio and worked on stories in the favelas. I shot assignments in Sao Paulo and Amazon and went on several long treks around the jungles of Rio state and Ilha Grande. Hope to get back soon!
