Brazil is the world's largest coffee producer and produces around 25% of the world's supply of coffee.
Eighty percent of coffee from Brazil is Arabica.
Coffee was introduced in Brazil by Francisco de Mello Palheta in 1727 from Cayenne, French Guiana. Today, Brazil is the world's largest coffee producer and is becoming a significant player in the specialty coffee industry. Bourbon, Typica, Caturra, and Mundo Novo coffee varietals are grown in the states of Paraná, Espirito Santos, São Paulo, Minas Gerais, and Bahia.
When the International Coffee Organization (ICO) and the Brazilian Institute do Café (IBC) set quotas for importing and exporting coffees, it protected a few producers in Brazil while deteriorating the specialty coffee sector. Since quotas were set, volume was expected. Unfortunately, the focus was on coffee prices and quantity rather than quality. The Brazilian coffee producers would mix together higher-quality coffees with low-quality Brazilian coffees to meet the demands of the quota system. The producers would then rename the coffees as Santos 1, Santos 2, etc. where Santos was the port where coffee was exported. In the early 90's the new government in Brazil broke the quota and protection laws for both the coffee and sugar industry. Subsequently, both the IBC and the IAA (sugar) were closed. This brought about a revolution in how coffee was exported in Brazil, thereby bringing about a reform in how coffee was grown, processed, and treated. Slowly the amazing variety of coffee available in Brazil became evident as consumers exercised their new right to purchase estate specific specialty coffees.
Today, Brazil coffee beans are not only used for coffee blending. Now that they are not pre-blended for us we can roast them properly to amplify their diverse characteristics. Then, if desired, we can blend the roasted coffees together to achieve a richer, bolder, and smoother espresso blend. Since the breakdown of the IBC and the quota system internal coffee consumption in Brazil has increased. Coffee exportation to the United States has also increased. Brazil specialty coffee is on the rise and Brazil should no longer be viewed as a country suitable only for blending.
The vast majority of coffee farms in Brazil are less than ten hectares in size. According to the Diagnóstico da Cafeicultura em Minas Gerais, 71% of farms are less than 10 hectares, 25% of farms had less than 50 hectares, and only 4% of farms were larger than 50 hectares.

The Brazilian Army is the land arm of the Brazilian Armed Forces. The Brazilian Army has fought in several international conflicts, mostly in South America during the 19th century. In the 20th century, fought on the Allied side at World War I and World War II. Aligned with Western Bloc, it also had active participation on Cold War in Latin America and Southern of Africa, as well as have taken part in UN peacekeeping missions worldwide since late 1950s.
Domestically, besides facing several rebellions throughout these two centuries, supported by key local elites and by big international capital, after has ended the monarchic period in the country, imposed to the rest of society its political views and economic development projects, during the periods (1889-94, 1930-50* and 1964-85) that it ruled the country.

Raising the self-esteem of our children is an important aim for us at Hummingbird and is usually accomplished through the children's regular participation in the artistic, cultural and sporting activities offered at our community prevention centres. Preventing kids from hitting the streets, drugs and crime is our main objective.
Living together for the entire weekend at our new home near the coast offers the children a unique opportunity and some very special moments; experiences they will probably cherish for the rest of their lives. The sheer beauty and aesthetics of our new home also plays an important role in raising the self-esteem of almost any underprivileged child who is fortunate enough to spend time there.
Last weekend's living-in experience was reserved for girls only and for most of them it was the first time spending nights away from home. Different to the boys of their age, our girls are extremely concerned about their appearance and personal aesthetics. It was therefore no surprise to me that they would enjoy to the full, the participation of our friend and neighbour, Andrea, who works as a beautician. Andrea spent the entire Saturday afternoon together with Ordalina, our artist and hairdresser, preparing the girls for an evening out to our local town, where they proudly paraded some of the qualities that make Brazilian girls become some of the most attractive women in the world.

Unique to Abeokuta, the return of those once enslaved resulted in the creation and the development of the Yoruba Africa-Brazilian style, wich appropiated and integrated Yoruba homes in a hybrid that reflected and physically accomodated old and new cultural practices.
UM student Kaitlin Ma breaks down the contraction of a sand based water filter for a group of Brazilian students in a small rural town of Congas. The U-M Water Systems team, which is part of the Pantanal Partnership organization on the UM campus, conducts a series of workshops in a village of Congas, on the edge of Pantanal, the largest wetlands in the word. University of Michigan students teach kids from a local school the importance of clean drinking water and will build a sand based water filter together. They hope that the kids will in turn educate their parents about the water issues and that better water sanitation will help alleviate a number of serious diseases that plague the area. Hopi Hari is a Brazilian theme park located at Km 72 of Bandeirantes Highway, Vinhedo in the state of São Paulo. It is located 30 km from Campinas and 80 km from São Paulo.
With 0.76 km², is considered the second largest amusement park in Brazil, and is part of the tourist complex Serra Azul. Hopi Hari is a fictitious country - its employees are residents (hópius) - with "president", capital, language itself, among other features. Due to the debts of the park in June 2009, the group GP Investments sold the park for a symbolic value to the group HH II PT S/A

The Brazilica Festival is the largest celebration of Brazilian culture in the United Kingdom that has been held annually in Liverpool, England since July 2008. It is produced by the Liverpool Carnival Company, an organisation that has operated as a registered charity since 2007. The festival began during Liverpool's reign as European Capital of Culture in 2008 when a Rio-style Carnival Parade swept through the streets of the city. In its current format, the festival consists of a week-long celebration of Brazilian culture including music, art, food, film and dance events that take place at indoor venues across the city which build up to an outdoor city centre carnival street party that takes place in Williamson Square and samba carnival parade.
The Liverpool Samba School was set up by husband and wife creative team Roger and Maeve Morris in 1995. The school performed at the Rio Carnival in 2000 and wanted to bring a touch of the Carnival's magic to streets in their own city. In 2007, the creative team established the Liverpool Carnival Company with an aim of delivering a Carnival event the following year.
