So often, the culture of towns and cities in Brazil is intertwined with the ocean. Here, a teenager fishes at sunset near a pier in Maceio, Brazil.
There were the wetsuits hung out to dry in front of each house. And the lack of shoes when walking down the gravely roads. And the quiet, laid-back atmosphere of the streets. It was clear I had arrived in a serious surf town.
A week prior, I had never heard of this tiny town that sits on the Atlantic in southern Brazil. Had I been a surfer, I certainly would have. The inconspicuous area is the site of several international surf tournaments. But not just that; like nearly all of the coastal places in Brazil, the beach is a way of life. It's the place where you meet familiar and unfamiliar faces. The sun and surf are the forces reassuring you that life is good.

My thoughts: With the Calgary Stampede now being over, the city bustle has died down and life has returned to the norm. I phoned my friend up today to do some leisure cooking and we ended up making something called Persian Beef Rhubarb Stew and Filipino Longanisa Sausages. It's amazing how fun cooking is again now that I don't have to work at a restaurant haha.
