During my time in Slovenia recently I managed to see some red squirrels in the wild for the first time in my life.
The squirrels were busy burying nuts in preparation for the incoming winter. Amongst the hustle I spotted this little guy, who had all the features of a red squirrel but with a dark black fur coat.
After a little research I found out that this particular individual's colour is actually a result of a genetically darker pigment, similar to that of the black jaguar. Still, a raresight that was very unexpected during my little break abroad.
Snapped by James.
I wish I had one of the LEGO black skulls with red eyes but I don’t. I think the Joker from the Dark Knight returns has a perfect body for him because it’s curved in and I feel the Black Mask from Birds of Prey was more effeminate so this toros was perfect in my opinion
These boots certainly emphasize my legs!
...And my shiny minidress emphasizes some of my other features, doesn't it?
My ensemble is centered on this wonderfully shiny & tight black mystique wet look lycra spandex tube style shirred minidress that was custom made for me by the fantastic Ellie at coquetryclothing.com! I've matched it up with Leg Avenue black fishnet hose worn over shiny black Platino Cleancut pantyhose from shapings.com and Hanes Alive Barely There support hose from onehanesplace.com, my black lurex opera gloves, and my fantastic black patent thigh high stiletto platform boots from electriqueboutique.com

Fujica AZ-1 with Tamron Adaptall 2 35-70mm macro. Shot on T-max 400 developed in ID-11
Messed up a bit by leaving the camera on flash sync (its a mostly aperture priority camera) so isn't the sharpest:)
A couple of black hairstreak butterflies, great to see these in quite surprisingly high numbers.

Have a nice night everyone!
This HUGE (1.5") venomous spider was crawling in my garage! My roommate and I were able to capture him with great caution.

The black widow spider (Latrodectus spp.) is a spider notorious for its neurotoxic venom. It is a large widow spider found throughout the world and commonly associated with urban habitats or agricultural areas.
The southern black widow is primarily found (and is indigenous to) the southeastern United States, ranging from Florida to New York, and west to Texas and Oklahoma. Specimens have been found in California as well.
So this is it, I’m starting my first photo blog called ’Year of the Alpha – 365 days of Sony Alpha Photography’. For my first post I’ve decided to introduce myself a bit. I’m 37 years old Finnish photographer. I bought my first own digital camera (Sony Nex-5N) about year and a half ago when we had our first baby, got bitten by a photo bug and took over 26 000 pictures in first year. I’ve always liked photography and as a graphics designer I’ve also done some photo editing and post processing before. I’ve even done couple of paid jobs, but I never clicked with the photography before I bought my 5N. I guess our daughter Aura (now 20 months old) was the main reason to pick a camera and start taking pictures. But I also think it was the small form factor of 5N and my background that provided me an easy step up with photography. I guess it’s a pretty common story which anyone can relate to.
After a year of shooting I found myself going in circles. As much as I liked photography I felt I was losing a certain way of seeing things, which originally came to me when I started my photography. Now I found myself taking same pictures again and again, so it was time to fresh up things a bit. I needed to find myself a new context which would take me new territory outside of family photography (which I still consider most important). With some planning I decided to put up a photo blog.
I don't know where this photo blog will take me, but I do know it gives me new kind approach to photography where I can’t just take photographs – I also have to learn to make them. I want to find new angles for my photography and develop my photographic eye to see things differently. To have a little bit structure in my photo blog, I’ve decided to divide it to 5 seasons, which all carry an individual abstract theme. My first season is about blackness (first 73 days). It can mean all sorts of things, but in practice I’d like to think I’m trying to find different ways of using black in photography. It’s my first love in photography and it’s what I want to do right now.
