'Brown' Black bear

Northern Minnesota

Black bears come in more colors than any other North American mammal. They can be black, brown, cinnamon, blond, blue-gray, or white.

I had the pleasure of coming across this beautiful cub with its mother and two other siblings( who were black) a few times over the week.

It was great to watch their behaviour and how cautious they were when an older bear approached, the cubs would be straight up a tree and out of harm's way.

Not only stupid images.

Blackness Bay on the Firth of Forth. The soon to be decomissioned Longannet power station in the distance.

After a rainy day and a flashlight, this is my result.

Taken at Arenal Observatory Lodge in Costa Rica - a very intriguing place - basically a lodge near the base of a volcano. A very active volcano. The coolest thing would be to see it erupt at night when it would send car-sized boulders of hot lava into the air which would then break up into little bike-sized boulders as it came tumbling down the rocks. Funny place - the big attraction is the volcano, not the wildlife. I was working with the front desk one morning (trying to fax home) when a lady from the states comes to the desk and says, "Excuse me, could you tell me what time the volcano will erupt?".

Just got my flash back from the Canon wizard repair shop. Awesome. If you haven't heard it from me already - Canon service absolutely rocks. Fixed my flash for a very reasonable fee, and put on a new cover to boot (my old one had lots of little plastic burn/melt holes from the better beamer working backwards and frying any ants crawling on my flash!).

Second picture of my ice series, called Black Ice.

Listen to Black Ice here.

_______________________________________________________________________

Black Ice is the 15th Australian and 14th international studio album by the Australian hard rock band AC/DC. It was produced by Brendan O'Brien and released internationally on 17 October 2008. Guitarists Angus Young and Malcolm Young got together in London in 2003 to start composing tracks. Delays to its development occurred due to an injury to bass guitarist Cliff Williams and a change of labels from Atlantic Records to Sony Music. Recording occurred on March and April 2008 at The Warehouse Studio in Canada, the same studio as the band's previous album Stiff Upper Lip, the eight-year gap between them is their longest between successive studio albums. O'Brien tried to recapture the rock sound of the band's early work, as opposed to the blues orientation of predecessors Ballbreaker and Stiff Upper Lip, and made suggestions such as adding "soul crooning" to Brian Johnson's singing. Black Ice has the longest running time of any AC/DC studio effort.

Black Ice was launched exclusively in physical formats, as the group does not sell its music digitally. Walmart got exclusive rights for the North American distribution, and was released along with an extensive marketing campaign which included displays focusing on AC/DC memorabilia. Three singles were issued, "Rock 'n' Roll Train", "Big Jack" and "Anything Goes". Black Ice went to #1 in 29 countries, including Australia, Canada, the UK, and the US. It was the second best-selling record of 2008, behind Coldplay's Viva La Vida or Death and All His Friends, and had shipped 6 million copies worldwide by December. Critical reviews were generally positive, praising the music and resemblance to the classic AC/DC sound, although some critics found the work overly long and inconsistent. Black Ice was nominated for many awards, including the Grammy, Brit, Juno and ARIA Music Awards; and was supported by a world tour between 2008 and 2010.

The Type Moon studio who produces the "Fate" games & anime cast the paladin Astolfo as Rider of Black in Fate/Grand Order game & anime. Astolfo, while male, dresses in feminine garb because he "likes cute things".

His feminine appearance causes comedic misunderstandings in the anime. Regardless of being a boy or girl, Astolfo has definitely achieved "cute".

CAPTAIN ANOUNCES ...we arrived ahead of schedule only 40 light years and we are at the black hole within nanoseconds.

It's amazing that we dont get pulled into the hole .... where all matter including light gets drawn in.

WE have the most modern barrier known to the inter-glactic travellers. Behind the disks on your space view is THE BLACK HOLE.

I always have difficulties photographing black birds

Black corals are classified as Hexacorals along with regular reef-building stony corals. They build their skeletons from chitin instead of calcium carbonate, however, and have a flexible tree-like structure. Their name comes from this black skeleton which was used as jewellery. Stradbroke Island

Back Storm Petrels breed on rocky islands off the coast of southern California and Mexico's Baja peninsula. They are the largest of the all-black Storm Petrels with a wingspan up to half a metre but they rarely come close enough for a photograph. I have visited Baja a number of times but rarely have I managed even a half-decent image. There isn't much to see in its jet black plumage, apart from a faint carpal bar on the wing and some pale bases to the primary shafts, both visible here. They also have a forked tail which isn't visible from this angle. It used to be in the genus Oceanodroma but that was recently synonymised with Hydrobates, so its name is now Hydrobates melania which roughly translates as black water walker. Of the two storm petrels that breed in Britain, Leach's Petrel used to be Oceanodroma (ocean wanderer) while Storm Petrel was Hydrobates. Now they are both in the latter genus, along with many other petrels. I know this isn't a great photo, but I wanted to upload it for ornithological interest as there appear to be few good photos of it on Flickr.
