The head and stomach are made out of Sculpy. I had cut the body about three-fourths off of the bottom. The whole thing was painted by me.
Lo and behold! A new "Fleet Of The Future" is assigned to a Transbay run, and is arriving at Daly City, where it will reverse and return to the Fremont Line. BART's new trains apparently just recently got assignments to Transbay service. 3019 is a "D" car with cab at one end. It can be used as a mid-train car, as well, like the C/C2 fleet. Postcard advertising the Bay Area Rapid Transit system, or BART. Most modern transportation system in the world? Pretty bold statement, even in the 1970s. Calling Oakland the "transportation center of the world"? mmmm... okay
Taking the BART train to SFO, and a quick token photo in the open air at Balboa Park station. BART is Bay Area Rapid Transit, a subway system introduced in 1972 to connect San Francisco with San Jose and Oakland, serving San Francisco International Airport (SFO) as well. The trains run on an Indian broad gauge (5ft 6in, 1676mm) track, giving the cars a noticeably wider look. The leading unit in the train here is a C Car, built by Alstom (as seen here) and Morrison-Knudsen between 1987-96, recognisable by their flat-fronted profiles compared with the sloping fronts of the earlier A and B cars. These units are all in course of replacement by new-generation trains built by Bombardier.
