This is the little bird I spoke of in the previous post.. You can tell it is still a baby because the cheek color is more orange than red and the feather development on the head.. I thought it was interesting that Dad had brought the Son out for Lunch... :-)

Three Guinea Pigs were born on the 5th of January much to our delight.

Sadly this little one didn't make it.

My neighbor, (his dog actually), found this little guy the day after a storm. His nest was 50 feet above. It was not until after looking about for the mother for awhile, that I realized the occassional screeching was not another baby in the nest, but another hanging by it's armpits from a tiny limb a few feet below.

The mother finally made an appearance an hour or so later, rescuing the hanging pup, but didn't find this one on the ground.

Once it became clear she wasn't going to locate him, I built a little open box nest and put him as high up in the tree as I could get w/ a ladder, surrounding him w/ assorted odiferous food the mother had demonstrated a liking for in the past, (canteloupe, apple, peanuts), since he was not making noise to attract her.

She did finally retrieve him by days end, though I'm dubious he was okay given the height of the fall and that he would barely open his eyes or squeak. He did seem to have full movement though, so who knows.

Everytime you look my way

I realize more and more

How much I adore those pretty eyes

Of yours, I'm helpless baby

Baby I love you

Baby I need you

Can't be without you

A baby changes things;

They’ll never be the same;

Your life is filled with wonder,

Since your little miracle came.

There’s lots of things to do now,

But with the new tasks you face,

Your family gains more love,

And bonds time will never erase.

Have a lovely Day!

The raccoon is a medium-sized mammal native to North America. The raccoon is the largest of the procyonid family, having a body length of 40 to 70 cm (16 to 28 in) and a body weight of 5 to 26 kg (11 to 57 lb). Its grayish coat mostly consists of dense underfur which insulates it against cold weather. Three of the raccoon's most distinctive features are its extremely dexterous front paws, its facial mask, and its ringed tail, which are themes in the mythologies of the indigenous peoples of the Americas. Raccoons are noted for their intelligence, with studies showing that they are able to remember the solution to tasks for at least three years. They are usually nocturnal and omnivorous, eating about 40% invertebrates, 33% plants, and 27% vertebrates.

The original habitats of the raccoon are deciduous and mixed forests,

The baby ducks are still coming to our bird feeders almost every day and are just about fully grown! Sadly, two of them didn’t make it, but it’s still so impressive that the mama has managed to keep the other ten safe.

Thank you for visiting and have a great week.

Couldn't give up on the babies just because ImperialMARCH was over...😉

I have 10 of these that have germinated, all grown from seeds from apples from a Jupiter apple tree in the garden. I am going to have to think what to with them - probably destined for going into hedges rather than specimen trees but I will give them a few years in pots and have them handy for when i need something for a slot.

When Ranger (pony) eventually dies (he is 37) There will be some very obvious places for hedges that are impracticable now and apples are so fascinating and pollinator friendly. Every seed grown apple tree is unique, probably useless but potentially a wonderful new discovery.

A recent visit to Beacon Hill Park in Victoria B.C. rewarded us with a bonus...lots of baby ducks have filled the park. These little siblings were snuggled together on the grass by the ponds edge. They didn't even object to me creeping up to take a few pictures.
