One of a batch, 562 - 567 (T562 BSS - T567 BSS), that entered service with First Aberdeen in July 1999. Some later transferred to "First Edinburgh/First Midland Bluebird". In 2001 all passed to First Manchester becoming 172 - 177 there (later becoming 60216 - 60221).

T563 BSS is currently (July 2016) in service with Harrogate Coach Travel (Connexions buses), having been acquired from First West Yorkshire earlier in the year.

Back where it belongs, on the streets of York is Scania L113CRL Wright Axcess Ultralow N414 ENW running HCT service 13 to Haxby (which among enthusiasts is affectionately referred to as York's Heritage Bus Route).

A remarkable survivor, this bus was new in late 1995 to Rider York for Park and Ride duties as fleet number 8414 in a distinctive 2-tone blue livery (as had been used on M113SLS, a demonstrator which had been tried by Rider York and they obviously liked the livery so much they then adopted it) and was one member in the very first full batch of low floor buses for Yorkshire. Along with later additions as the P&R operation expanded, this stayed in York for 7 years until 2002 when the entire singe decker York fleet had been replaced by inferior Volvo B7L's and B6BLE's - this bus moved to Potteries for a while beofre settling in the Leeds fleet. A rear-end collision almost spelled the end for this, however the decision was made to rebuild and repair to keep it in use. Upon reentering service with Firstgroup, it had been given the new Olympia livery and at the time was the oldest bus in passenger service to gain the livery. Withdrawn in late summer 2014, it was feared this would make a one-way trip to Barnsley - but instead was saved by Craig Temple of ConnexionsBuses; initially bought for preservation, a full inspection revealled it's condition was simply too good for it to not see a bit more use in service. However, with the DDA deadline at the end of 2015 looming ever closer its days of use on public service are very much limited. Craig may yet decide to keep this on the books for another year but only on 'Closed Door' school services, but whatever decision is made 8414 will be going straight into preservation locally as soon as it is withdrawn.

I took two photos of this as it heads over Ouse Bridge (a bridge it would have crossed many times when new on Park and Ride services, bearing in mind back then the routes were slightly different to today) and I couldn't make up my mind between the two which I prefer and so both have been uploaded. I had stood up on the stone wall of the bridge simply due to how many people and other vehicles there were going past me as I waited it made me think I honestly wouldn't get anywhere near a half decent photo of this here - and yet the road cleared up rather nicely... even the pigeons have gathered behind to watch this pass by!

Stagecoach Merseyside Scania L94UB Wright Axcess Floline X265 USH (28539) seen withdrawn in Gillmoss Depot. 4/6/16

The second batch of buses delivered to First Aberdeen Ltd in corporate FirstGroup "Barbie" livery arrived in November 1998.

Nos 550 - 561 (S550 JSE - S561 JSE), operated just over three years in the Granite City before transferring elsewhere as they were to become non-standard types in what was to become a Volvo dominated fleet.

The first withdrawals occurred in March 2001 (551 - 554) and by July that year all twelve buses had gone.

Nos 550 - 559 became First Glasgow No 1 Ltd Nos SS163, SS154 - SS162 (later 61567 - 61576), and Nos 560 & 561 became First Manchester Ltd Nos 178 & 171 (later 60222 & 60215).

Due to the closure of Govan Bus Station, a number of bus services in the area have been put on diversion. For example, the 121 (Govan - Govanhill/Victoria Infirmary) has been diverted along Helen St & Harmony Row.

Note, N414 ENW was originally operated by Rider (York) Limited as number 8414, being renumbered 60133 in the FirstGroup plc’s national numbering scheme introduced in late 2002. It was transferred to First PMT Limited as number 60133 in 2002 and transferred to First West Yorkshire Limited in 2010. It was acquired by Harrogate Coach Travel Limited circa December 2014, was withdrawn from service in November 2016 and acquired for preservation by Josh Bickerstaffe and Matthew Thompson in March 2017

One of the most recent additions to the ConnexionsBuses fleet is that of Scania L94 Wright Axcess Floline T431 GUG, seen at the Stonebow on HCT route 13 for Haxby on what is believed to be its debut visit to York.

New in August 1999 to Yorkshire Rider (though by then very much owned by Firstbus, now Firstgroup) this was among the first buses in Leeds to gain the corporate Willowleaf livery which was later nicknamed the 'Barbie' livery due to the use of pink, and so this bus was also one of the first specified to First corporate standard rather than Yorkshire Rider standard - this also missed out on the brief blip when buses around Yorkshire were given regional identities and new liveries, other buses in Leeds gained the striking Leeds City Link striped livery whilst the low floor buses never got that. This batch was specified with Guide Arms fitted so that guide wheels could be used to enable these for use on guided busways in west yorkshire.

Although technically in Connexions livery, the repaint is currently only a partial one as per how the former 8414 was first repainted.... parts of First's Olympia livery can still be seen such as the lilac stripe above the windows to the rear, whilst a silhouette of the First logo can be seen above the cab window.

A comparison of First vehicle types. The new era is represented by Enviro 300 67750, followed by an earlier standard First type - the Wright bodied Scania L94 (new to Eastern Counties).

Merseybus P309HEM (5309) is a Scania L113CRL with Wright Axcess Ultralow bodywork. Seen in Llandudno, P309HEM was new to Merseyside as their 5309.

A seasoned Scania with Stagecoach.

Amongst the older single deck stock that Stagecoach acquired with the Chester and Wirral area services of First was Wright Axcess Floline bodied Scania L94UB 28542. Looking a little shabby with dirty streaks down its front from the wiper arm mounts, this Scania, new to First Manchester in May 2001, lasted long enough with Stagecoach to gain a repaint into corporate "beachball" livery.

The vibrant colour of Mulleys latest orange was just too good to miss here as it sits on layover, take note Mr Stenning, you don't need pointless swoops and swirls everywhere to have an eye catching and quite frankly brilliant livery!

Here is MUI7949 from the front.

New to First Manchester(109), in 01/1999, this then Bolton based Scania is seen here exiting Parker Street, Piccadilly Gardens, Manchester, turning onto Portland Street, when heading back to its home town on the lengthy service 36 in 06/2006. It was later transferred to First Berkshire working in the Bracknell and Reading areas.

Another Scania L113CRL Wright Axcess Ultralow that has come to ConnexionsBuses having been withdrawn from the First Leeds fleet. R459 JFS was 61073 in the Firstgroup fleet, and had even gained Olympia livery... now seen on the HCT yard.

Last operated by ConnexionsBuses near York and something of a celebrity in the fleet, Scania L113CRL Wright Axcess Ultralow N414 ENW is now owned privately by Josh Bickerstaffe and Matthew Thompson and is seen on its first attendance at a bus rally in preservation since passing its MOT in November 2017. Seen at Northallerton after the guys kindly dropped me off here, thus I avoided a 2 hour wait for a train home.

It was last used in stagecarriage service in November 2016 on service 13 in York. Currently in the early stages of its life in preservation, it will eventually be given it's Park and Ride livery back again in addition to destination equipment as close to original as possible (the side numeric display is still the original Bright Tech unit, and an original roller blind from the fleet has been provided by Andy Burbridge). Most of the interior trim is to original Rider York spec, though the seat padding has gone flat which is a bit expected after over 20 years of service use; ceiling speakers were provided and were connected to a PA system so the driver could announce the city centre stops, in the B7L's which replaced the Scanias this PA system was also connected to a radio receiver

ex-Manchester Scania L94UB Wright Axcess Floline S104 TNB is at York Piccadilly with HCT route 142 to Ripon, running a bit late. One of the lesser-seen ConnexionsBuses vehicles around these parts, I think this may be its first time in York. Just a shame the driver doesn't know how to use his mirrors and nearly knocked me off my bike in the next street along.
