“There are certain emotions that will kill your drive; frustration and confusion. You can change these to a positive force. Frustration means you are on the verge of a breakthrough. Confusion can mean you are about to learn something. Expect the breakthrough and expect to learn.” - Kathleen Spike

[I've really dropped the ball with this project, but I know I'll catch back up. Life just keeps getting in the way and sapping me of all my time and energy. I did find the quote I linked above to be solid advice and very inspiring. Hopefully you all find some wisdom in it as well.
The title of this is from an FF9 song--I've always liked the idea of having the power to walk into a wood and stir and awaken some sleeping magic. In this image, the girl has that very ability--the moment she steps into a particular forest, it comes alive with light and music and magic.]

Get up at 3:30 in the morning then drove to the Golden Gate Bridge and climb the mountain in the dark to the hillside full of wildflowers. Waiting for the sunrise, all the hard work is paid off !! Thank you for stopping by!!
After having no storms, and no cloudy sunrise/sunsets for over a week, we finally got a decent sunset.
The Day Awakens
The first image from the start of the day that produced a stunning temperature inversion from Meall Mor looking out over Rannoch Moor.
We left home at 10pm to head North to catch an early sunrise at this location. Arriving at 1am, quicker than normal, we took a bit of a rest and headed up Meall Mor at 3.30. Sunrise was at about 4.40am and over the next 3 hours we were treated to one of those displays that makes the early starts so worthwhile.

I found this toy at the Flea Market. A Windago fidget toy made by 3D printing.
I'm sure he/she is a friendly Wendigo.
I don't allow evil nasty toys to live in my forest.
Although there is a famous and oft photographed japanese maple that lives in the Japanese Garden in the West Hills, there are many beautiful specimens all around Portland. While I have visited the garden a couple times, I haven't photographed or even specifically noticed the famed maple. And while that tree is undoubtedly beautiful and gets more than its fair share of visitors, I count myself lucky to have spent time under this unheralded canopy.
As I was photographing this tree, a couple of younger guys passed by, taking pictures of each other and the beauty around them for a photography class. I was happy to see them both carrying Pentax K1000's, perhaps the most classic tool of the burgeoning photographer. I commented that it was 'good to see people shooting film'. One replied, 'yeah, it's kinda hard....but really fun!' It made me think of when I was first learning photography. Not on a K1000, but on my Dad's Minolta SRT 102. It also got me thinking of a quote I read about curiosity, and the initial simplicity and excitement of film photography.....
"Do not try and satisfy your vanity by teaching a great many things. Awaken people's curiosity. It is enough to open minds; do not overload them. Put there just a spark. If there is some good flammable stuff, it will catch.”

He pointed out that everyone who comes into contact with a child is a teacher who incessantly describes the world to him, until the moment when the child is capable of perceiving the world as it is described. According to don Juan, we have no memory of that portentous moment, simply because none of us could possibly have had any point of reference to compare it to anything else. From that moment on, however, the child is a member. He knows the description of the world; and his membership becomes full-fledged, I suppose, when he is capable of making all the proper perceptual interpretations which, by conforming to that description, validate it.
For don Juan, then, the reality of our day-to-day life consists of an endless flow of perceptual interpretations which we, the individuals who share a specific membership, have learned to make in common.
The idea that the perceptual interpretations that make up the world have a flow is congruous with the fact that they run uninterruptedly and are rarely, if ever, open to question. In fact, the reality of the world we know is so taken for granted that the basic premise of sorcery, that our reality is merely one of many descriptions, could hardly be taken as a serious proposition.
Fortunately, in the case of my apprenticeship, don Juan was not concerned at all with whether or not I could take his proposition seriously, and he proceeded to elucidate his points, in spite of my opposition, my disbelief, and my inability to understand what he was saying. Thus, as a teacher of sorcery, don Juan endeavored to describe the world to me from the very first time we talked. My difficulty in grasping his concepts and methods stemmed from the fact that the units of his description were alien and incompatible with those of my own.
