I just got in from a walk with my daughter and Odin. It's so cold! I am not ready for winter!
Edit: the auto tag feature added the tag "bear" to this shot!! ha!! (I deleted it before I thought of posting this though.)

Only January 9 and I’m resorting to a backup picture! Took some test shots this morning, and was going to try again later today when I had more time. Never had more time, and I ran out of daylight. So here is my best shot for the day.
I picked these up in the after Christmas sales.
P.S. Flickr auto-tags thinks this is food. Don't ya love 'em?

The completion of the triptych of alpine critters, the American Pika (Ochotona princeps) joins the yellow-bellied marmot and the white-tailed ptarmigan as the most characteristic (and charismatic) alpine inhabitants. All three are year-round residents of the harsh high-elevation environment. Only the ptarmigan continues to forage during the bitter windy winter, while the marmots go into torpor (allow their body temperature to drop to save energy) in their dens, and the pikas consume plants collected during the summer in their rock talus homes covered with snow. As part of the rabbit clan pikas don't have the ability to enter torpor (hibernate).
Unlike the jackrabbit I posted earlier this summer, the pika displays the classic adaptations to survive in a cold climate- reduced ear and limb sizes to minimize heat loss, and fur covering most of the body.
Note "bear" as an auto-tag;
Another pic of ALCo DL531 branchliner no.873, waits to depart Kevin with its train loaded with salt bound for Thevenard - 3 February 1992. This was the last ever movement by rail of the salt traffic.
Thanks Flickr for coming up with 'seaside' and 'shore' as auto tags!

To turn me on. (Prince/Tom Jones) A bit desperate due to lack of wee beasties, hence this shot of a Red Breasted Carrion Beetle, Oiceoptoma thoracicum - on a dog turd!! (What will auto-tags make of this I wonder - nothing actually). So a pair of these beetles, scurrying about on a very large turd. Have they mistaken it for carrion? Anyhow, I've cropped the shot to disguise the shit (paying attention auto-tags??)
Errrr, no, Mrs B. you may not pose on my hand to have your picture taken!

I thought I would post a photo of Milu today as she is just as sweet and we will probably be seeing a lot of Pixie soon
Pixie update:. She keeps going into the bottom of my wardrobe so I have cleared my shoes and made her a space, with a box and an old towel. Hopefully this is the place she will finally choose to have the kittens. She lay in there when I got home last night and I thought "Is this it"? But it wasn't:-(
Happy furry Friday everyone!
Wishing you a weekend full of nice surprises.
PS. How on earth did the auto tag think there was a plant and blossom in this photo?? - lol
