It looks like no little cygnets this year. The nest is out in the open. There are six eggs in it...but neither swan is on the nest, or even near it. Other years eggs hatched before Memorial Day.
Swans apparently have some problem getting the eggs fertilized...and some years there just is no hatching. Sad.
On a more humorous note, Flickr auto-tagging thinks this is a dog.
In a skateboard race between a small twenty-first century robot and a plodding thirty-five ton Brachiosaurus from the late Jurassic age, there was only going to be one winner. Particularly as Danbo's on his custom Zoo York board with steel trucks and Brian's on a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle all-plastic board. Still, Brian enjoyed it; he's not a saur-opod loser.
Pilot boat "Lotse 2" and a navigational sign warning of low-flying aircraft crossing the Elbe river in their approach to the Finkenwerder Airbus works.
I may have tried to make a symmetrical composition, but Nature had other ideas. The beach is quite a bit higher to the right of this jetty and pebbles are strewn across it. I liked that a dog trotted into my image too.
Flickr's auto tagging thought this was a railroad track. Interesting. :)

According to Flickr's Auto-tagger, a deer is an animal [check], a mammal [check], a pet [depends how rich one is] and a dog [er... no]. Of course, I wonder if auto-tagger just pretends to be incorrect...

It's the first time I post four photos in a day, I promise it wouldn't happen again, but now I can't help it :)
An old commercial, priceless :))

The gypsum sand has a much lower thermal conductivity than quartz sand so going bare foot is a delight even after a long hot day. I found this soap yucca while hiking barefoot among the dunes. Evenings are magical there especially with an almost full moon as a backdrop.

I found several of these--adults and larvae--on willow (Salix nigra, I think).
Chrysomela scripta, length about 7 mm.

I think it's a Robber Fly? He was resting on one of the pots in the summer, I guess he probably had his eyes on something good! I love the auto tags ha ha 'LIZARD' Maybe I should have named him Chameleon! HFDF folks hope it's a good one for you all.

Spot, Leia's protégée
Spot's story it's the most unbelievable at all of our dogs. She's been here with us for more than six months, and only very recently accepted the presence of a human at less than 2-3 m from her.
Her's friendship with Leia is amazing and I hope it's the healing path.
I love the auto-tags: bear, dog, sheep...a lot of choices :))

Aren't Flickr's auto-tags great - just noticed my last shot of a Fallow Deer buck was tagged as a Giraffe!

(042/365) Yesterday we noticed the first frogspawn of the year laid in a drainage ditch near Dunbrody Country House Hotel. Colour lifted a little with Topaz Glow "Oh Hey Overlay". I like how Flickr auto tags has labelled this as "Bear" lol. I used to remove such silly tags but in future I'm going to leave them all on.

Here I am making my train ride home look overly dramatic.
Apparently flickr's new auto tag system agrees and added "surreal" to the tags. Ha! Love that!
