G&W 1002 switches out the Hamburg, Ford Plant. As the winter light fades fast they are making their pulls from inside the building.
Extra foam points for old iron in original paint schemes - a high-cube auto parts boxcar built in 1968, but owner Detroit, Toledo and Ironton hasn't existed for 30 years now.
During the Great Floods of 1993, rail traffic west of Chicago was in complete disarray. As the flood waters made their way south down the Mississippi River plain, routes would flood as others to the north reopened. That's the case here--Norforlk Southern's ex-Wabash routes beyond Decatur, IL were underwater as the old Soo Line between Chicago and Kansas City reopened so the NS was running their hot autoparts trains over the former Milwaukee Road. Here is the #145 ducking under the Illinois Central at Genoa, IL with GP38AC #2827 leading GP50s 7022 and 7078 on only 14 cars for the Ford plant in Kansas City.

What is likely a MEWLF heads west on the Del Rio Sub near La Coste, TX with a unique cut of 86-foot autoparts box cars on the head end, which are getting hard to find these days. November 2019.
The C&NW 1310 and 1309 work the boxcar yard on the west side of the GM assembly plant at Janesville, WI from July of 1983. Back in 1980-81 this same pair of MP15s were the ones based in my hometown of Belvidere, IL to work the Chrysler plant. They were sent up here to do the same chores--sorting hi-cube boxcars loaded with autoparts.
During the dawn of October 13, 2020, westbound Norfolk Southern Roadrailer train no. 255 parts the ground fog near Clymers, Indiana, on its journey to transport automotive parts to the Ford Motor vehicle assembly operations in Kansas City, Missouri. No. 255 is passing Norfolk Southern’s Clymers Base Radio Tower which provides both verbal communications to train crews and digital communications to wayside interface units.
Judges’ Comments: This image speaks to how technology has helped push the industry into a new era, where railroad communication was once connected by physical wire and paper, it is now satellite-linked within a wireless world. Much of modern railroading depends on radio and microwave communications, and in this atmospheric image, both train and relay tower emerge from an ethereal fog through delicate twilight. The photograph’s subtle yet powerful emphasis of sky reinforces the image’s theme of contemporary railroading’s use of telecommunication tools.

Registered in April 1978 (previously registered as a Crown Vehicle).
Fitted with a Harvey Frost crane and supplied new to Redbridge & Waltham Cross Area Health Authority to recover broken down ambulances. It remained with them until 2006.
Less than two hours after shooting the trio of GP35s on #576, we caught westbound #599 rolling past the small shanty at the junction where the branch to McHenry split off the mainline. C&NW SD40-2s 6802, 6905 and 6822 have 148 cars of autoparts, autoracks and general freight traffic for Janesville and Madison as they storm past right about 3 p.m. on 6-22-1980. Waycar #10365 brought up the markers.

With how fast the RoadRailer goes, the shots are few and far between. So, after the Illiopolis shot, we beelined it to Springfield to shoot him coming past the former Chicago & Illinois Midland tower.
We were lucky, as once we arrived, we found a BNSF coal empty that was given signals across the diamond, making the 255 wait for several minutes until the interlocking opened up again. The sun also started to peak through at this point, and although it wasn't perfect yet, it was shaping up to be a nice afternoon.
