A former Texaco site which stopped selling fuel around twenty years ago, the pumps were still visible in the 2009 Google street view as well as a small amount of red paint on the canopy.
By 2012 the pumps had been removed and the former petrol forecourt was trading as Autoquip.

Our first shot of the chase outside of Decatur was at Illiopolis. He does a healthy 60 MPH through most of the line, and I wouldn't be surprised if he was doing more when he passed us here.
Sam informed me afterward that the town had been the sight of an ecological disaster after a plant blew up, killing multiple people. Never would have guessed.

Norfolk Southern train 145 22 rolls west by the searchlight signals at Harristown with an ex-Union Pacific "MAC" — to soon become a NS SD70ACU — leading. 145 originates out of Bison Yard in Buffalo, New York as a mixed freight but after working East Decatur Yard it carries a string of "Birmingham" auto part boxcars (off various inbound trains from the Lafayette District, most notably 181 out of Oakwood Yard in the suburbs of Detroit) for the Ford Assembly Plant in Claycomo, Missouri.

Bill Crisp is indeed riding the "gravy train" as he pilots a short, over-powered #145 Ford autoparts train from the cab of the Veterans unit, whilst enjoying a large stogie.

Norfolk Southern has finally rolled out its full-strength PSR TOP21 operating plan. As a result of the changes, the normally short and overpowered 181 Ford autoparts train now runs with a large block of loaded autoracks on the rear end with a total train length exceeding 10,000 feet. Of course, the amount of motive power assigned to 181 remains unchanged (gotta sweat those assets!).
Here Mr. Bill Crisp pilots 181 west of Curran after enduring a 2 hour PSR-related delay at Harristown.

Autoparts train 181 rolls past the construction work on the 10th Street Corridor project in downtown Springfield as it heads west to Kansas City.
Just as I was taking this photo, NS' Wayside desk alerted 181 to a block of five cars deep in their train with wheels that were "trending hot" when the train passed the Riverton hotbox detector. This type of situation has taken on new significance after the train derailment and fire in East Palestine, OH. Turns out it was just a simple case of sticking brakes that was resolved by a short stop and release of the air brakes at Hazel Dell.

Supposedly these 86' Autopart boxcars are on short time due to their age.
A standard power lashup from twenty years ago leads Ford autoparts train M45 west at Bates Curve.

Very odd weather so it was an inside photo for today. While rummaging in the sideboard drawer I found this box of matches and decided to use it for today. I liked it, hope you do.

Norfolk Southern's Norfolk & Western heritage locomotive framed up with the battered mural on the Eldorado Street underpass in Decatur, Illinois as it departs out of town on "Ford autoparts" train 145; it detoured down the NS Brooklyn District due to Mississippi River flooding at Hannibal, Missouri.
The shot I have wanted since this unit came out of the paint shop at Altoona and I have finally got it.

Our next shot we had planned was this curve at Goss. The crew seemed to be having a good day as were we.

Train 181 wraps around the big curve at Arnold on a hot and humid July afternoon. Owing to the 4th of July weekend, this train only had eight autoparts cars on the head end.

CN 5530 solo on the southbound M371 takes the hole for both northbound and southbound Amtraks at Tuscola. This was a neat catch considering that most SD60Fs are going into storage.
Autoparts train 181 rolls west along old US 36 near Curran, Illinois. 181 led the autoparts parade out of Decatur and met 148 at New Berlin, with 255 going into the hole at Iles.
With so many trains operating close to Springfield at the same time it almost felt like the good ole days before PSR.

After working at NS' Voltz Yard just to the east of here, NS train 181 is seen pulling across the CP diamonds at Birmingham, MO. The train is made up of 86' auto parts boxcars and flat cars with truck frames. The track on the left here is the Claycomo Branch, and after 181 pulls through the crossover ahead of them, they'll back up down this track to the Ford plant.
