Oh boy, here we go.
For those of you that guessed the RoadRailer for the goal of the trip, give yourselves a point.
We were at the mercy of NS for how our chase on Sunday would go, as we were going to follow the train from Decatur west until the sun set and then head back to Lincoln. We hoped that they might leave earlier than normal, so we were glad to hear that there was a crew called for them at 11:50 Sunday morning.
The railroad giveth and the railroad taketh. We got an early RoadRailer to chase. However, they decided to run it with a BNSF coal GEVO instead of literally anything NS. Can't win them all, I guess.
After waiting in pouring rain, the 255 came around the corner and got signals west out of town just as the rain started to let up. As soon as he hit the road, so did we.

A couple weeks later on July 25, the entrance is taking shape.

Construction on O'Reilly Auto Parts in Port Charlotte, which should be open soon. This location will also function as a distribution center when it opens, due to the building having extra space.
This building was originally built in 1972, although I don't know the original tenant. It has housed a few different mattress stores, and was used as a Spirit Halloween store seasonally up to 2016, before construction began on O'Reilly. I'm sure I have a previous picture of the building somewhere, but it'll take a while to find in my messy backlog.
At the time of its dedication in 1908, The Whiteside Bakery was hailed as the largest, most sophisticated bakery in the United States, producing over 140,000 loaves of bread for Louisville residents each day. The bakery building itself was designed in the Mission Style, a curious choice by architect Arthur Loomis, since the style was not well represented in the Louisville area. The National Register nomination for this building notes that "Loomis's use of this contemporary California mode... provided a particularly happy solution for the structure's location within a transitional zone." The building was also buffeted by two commanding towers, one of which was festooned with ornamental gargoyles on each corner. Atop one tower was a large electric clock which tolled upon the hour. At dusk, "the characters... in letters of fire... read, 'Mother's Bread.'"
General Baking Company of New York acquired Whiteside in 1928. Soon afterward, General began producing their trademark, "Bond Bread," which was the best-sellign brand of bread in the U.S. To this day, the ornamental neon sign, declaring "Bond Bread: Better by Far" remains atop the eastern tower of the building.
The bakery was sold to the Dixie Baking Company in 1966. By 1973, it was abandoned. Since then, the building though vacant, stores hundreds of 1970s-era auto parts. A portion of the executive offices upstairs is host to hundreds of multi-colored steering wheels
I guess the business model didn't quite work out. We'll never really know. Upstate New York (as Manhattanites call it) is full of places exactly like this. This old store is massive and goes all the way back to the start of the mountain.
Yes, I missed my appointment at the DMV and have to return tomorrow.
It's amazing how quickly nature takes over once people leave. I found out that this store has been closed for only 5 years.
This would be an easy one to miss, especially if traveling north. It is on the side of the building.
Dentro de los recorridos de vigilancia que se implementan en el operativo “Calles Seguras”, policías del municipio de Querétaro aseguraron a un sujeto que fue sorprendido cuando quitaba autopartes de una motocicleta.
Al circular por la calle Gutiérrez Nájera esquina con Gorostiza de la colonia El Tintero, los oficiales observaron que en un terreno baldío se encontraba un sujeto manipulando una motocicleta de la marca Italika, color naranja con franjas negras, matrícula EKE7J.
El individuo al notar la presencia policial emprendió la huída corriendo, tratando de esconderse de las autoridades, sin embargo dentro de la misma colonia se le dio alcance y se le aseguró.
Los datos de la motocicleta fueron consultados con la central de radio, que les informó que el automotor fue robado hace unas horas en la calle Literatura, por lo que se notificaría de la situación al afectado para que acudiera al lugar.
Una vez que llegó el afectado reconoció la motocicleta como de su propiedad, y al revisarla indicó que presentaba daños en el switch de encendido y la moldura delantera, situación por la cual procedería en contra del sujeto.
El personal operativo le informó al detenido sus derechos que lo asisten y luego fue puesto a disposición de la Unidad de Fiscalía por el delito de robo de vehículo.
Cabe mencionar que al consultar los datos del detenido en el Sistema Plataforma México, confirmó que había sido detenido por personal policial de la dependencia en tres ocasiones:
1.- El 04 de enero de 2014, por el delito de robo a casa habitación, en la colonia Fundadores.
2.- El 20 de mayo de 2015, por el delito de robo simple en la colonia El Tintero.
3.- El 09 de julio de 2015, por el delito de robo de vehículo, en la colonia El Tintero.
Así como en dos ocasiones fue remitido al Juzgado Cívico, por escandalizar y causar alarma y temor en la vía pública, en diciembre del 2014 y agosto de 2016.

NS ES44AC 8088 takes charge of autoparts train NS 181 as it crawls through Randolph on the Norfolk Southern Kansas City District. A relic of the line's past is still hidden in plain sight near the Randolph Road railroad crossing; a Norfolk and Western no trespassing sign that's since been patched over discreetly with newer NS markings. A keen eye will notice the old N&W lettering beginning to show through.

Southbound to westbound autorack/autoparts train Q241 passes beneath the classic C&O three head signal bridge at the west end of the center siding north of Fostoria, OH on the morning of November 15, 2015. The C&O line through northwestern Ohio still has most of its original signals, though their days are numbered.
A short 3-car Ford auto parts train ducks under the old C&NW bridge at Curran the day after Christmas. While 20T, 255, and 33J have all had their locomotive consists reduced over the past couple of years, 145 always gets two big six axles and 8,000 horsepower no matter how short the train is.

As I headed through southern Illinois wrapping up my Spring Break, I was told Union Pacific train ZDTMX 15 (which came off the CSX at St. Elmo as Q13114; originating from Detroit area) was arriving into Salem to start its work. I then camped around the town waiting for it to roll down the Mount Vernon Sub, and here it came at Cross Road with "The Katy" in consist. Although "trail = fail" to some out there, I still love catching the special units regardless.

Flat-faced UP C30-7 2415 leads UPB 4247 on a southbound auto train just beyond Wateska, IL on September 2, 1995. With 62 cars the train is running on the joint CSX/UP trackage out of the south side of Chicago down to Woodland Junction, just a few miles beyond. He will take the bend to the southwest there and head down to a crew change at Villa Grove.
In 1942 the Chicago, Burlington & Quincy modified some of their 50' automobile boxcars to carry wings of B-26 Marauder bombers to an Army Air Corps assembly plant near Omaha. The CB&Q shops built 26" high side extensions and reattached the old roof to the raised sides. The wings were loaded and unloaded through the hinged doors on the 'A' end of the boxcar.
After the war these cars were used for high cube, lightweight loads such as appliances and furniture. The cars fared poorly in their new assignment — those types of loads weren't as robust as airplane wings — with cargo damage often the result of excess sway. Eventually the boxcars were put into general service alongside normal-height 50' cars.
