Many KATUSAs around Area III, along with the U.S. and ROK Army Officers and NCOs, attended the ceremony showing appreciation for their exemplary work ethics and efforts, and to congratulate them on their departure from the Army and their journey back to society.

The ceremony was to remember the two officers, Capt. Arthur Bonifas, the Joint Security Force Company commander, and 1st Lt. Mark Barrett, the 1st Platoon Leader, who were killed by Korean People’s Army guards during the Axe Murder Incident 37 years ago. Virginia and North Carolina National Guard Soldiers and Airmen mark the deactivation of the Joint National Guard Augmentation Unit in a ceremony Sept. 11, 2016, in Suffolk, Virginia. JNGAU traces its origins to 1998 as a partnership between United States Joint Forces Command and the Virginia and North Carolina National Guard to enhance total force integration. The augmentation leveraged the military experience, civilian skills and personnel availability to meet peacetime crises and wartime requirements on a timely basis, and it also took advantage of the National Guard's core competencies by augmenting elements responsible for such missions as consequence management for Weapons of Mass Destruction incidents and joint training. With the disestablishment of USJFCOM in 2011, the JNGUA transitioned to supporting the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Joint Force Development, J7 and a portion of the unit also supported Joint Task Force Civil Support, which is currently a United States Northern Command asset. The PSX Consultancy project conceives of augmentations intended for vegetal species for the purposes of enhancing the given client’s natural reproductive processes. In other words, we make sex toys for plants.
Misleadingly quirky, the PSX Consultancy is a project which investigates the changing paradigm of the human/non-human relationship. Incorporating cultural frameworks through which we as humans understand ourselves and our environment – science, design and art – we improvise design tools that challenge our anthropocentric vantage point to think on the plants’ behalf. As the plant clients are silent about their necessities, we relied on scientific knowledge of plant biology. The results of the interdisciplinary approach are critical discursive objects posing as sex toys, inherently paradoxical and absurd, yet manifesting our “all means possible” attempt to truly understand the non-human. Through the hybrid exploration of the parallelism between plant and human reproductive strategies, we uncover the realm of bio-logic whilst provoking an ethical discourse connected to post-anthropocentrism.

“Seedling Banking and Space Augmentation: Through Weeding and Earth Defoliation”
September 13 and 20, 2010 marked a 350.org-inspired-event inside the University
of the Philippines Baguio.
This event was designed to support 350.org’s movement to help decrease the
current CO2 concentration in our atmosphere.
Faculty members handling the National Service Training Program (NSTP) agreed to
schedule an activity playfully entitled “Seed banking and Space Augmentation:
Through Weeding and Earth Defoliation”. NSTP students were gathered and tasked
to perform a cleanup drive with the University as well as seed planting. Each
student was asked to bring and plant at least 5 seeds and they were given the
responsibility to tend to them until seedlings sprout out. These seedlings will
become part of a seedling bank that NSTP will establish and will be used for
future tree planting projects.
