Le guêpier est un oiseau très coloré : son dos est de couleur brune et jaune et son ventre ainsi que sa queue tirent sur le vert et le bleu. Sa gorge est jaune vif et se décolore en blanc jusqu'à ses joues et son front. Un masque noir entoure ses deux yeux rouges et prolonge son bec noir légèrement incurvé. Sa taille est à peu près celle d'un merle, soit 28 centimètres environ. C'est en général au mâle d'arborer les couleurs les plus vives, surtout en plumage nuptial, contrairement à la femelle et aux juvéniles. Cet oiseau, assez craintif, vient nicher en France en été où il se reproduit avant de repartir pour l'Afrique vers la fin août / début septembre. Grâce à l'augmentation des températures, sa niche tend à non plus se limiter au sud de la France, mais à remonter vers le nord. Grégaire, les colonies atteignent le plus souvent la vingtaine ou trentaine d'individus et les familles restent solidaires et se préviennent mutuellement en cas de danger. En France, le guêpier s'installe à proximité des cours d'eau dans des milieux assez ouverts mais contrairement à nombre d'oiseaux, il niche au sol, dans des talus de terre meuble ou artificielle. Il y creuse alors son nid avec son bec, progressivement usé, de sorte à offrir une cavité de 1 à 2 mètres de long. Près de 10kg de terre sont évacués du nid pour sa construction !

The Iberian Lynx (Lynx pardinus) is a wild cat species endemic to the Iberian Peninsula in southwestern Europe. It is listed as Endangered on the IUCN Red List. In the 20th century, the Iberian Lynx population had declined because of overhunting, poaching, fragmentation of suitable habitats, and the population decline of its main prey species, the European Rabbit, caused by myxomatosis and rabbit haemorrhagic disease.
By the turn of the 21st century, the Iberian Lynx was on the verge of extinction, as only 94 individuals survived in two isolated subpopulations in Andalusia in 2002 (Sierra de Andujar and La Doñana). Conservation measures have been implemented since then, which included improving habitat, restocking of rabbits, translocating, reintroducing and monitoring Iberian Lynxes. By 2012, the population had increased to 326 individuals, to 855 in 2020, and to 1,111 in 2021.
A corridor has just been developed so that the two population islands (Andujar and La Doñana) can communicate, in order to obtain better genetic mixing. The two populations of Lynx have different spots on their bodies; but in a recent period, hybridizations have begun to be observed, which proves the effectiveness of the corridor.
There is certainly an increase in the global population of Lynx but the fight is not yet won because of the state of mind of some owners of private hunting reserves. Some agree to collaborate, others oppose. The same problem exists in France for Wolves or Bears.
Le lynx ibérique (Lynx pardinus) est une espèce endémique de la péninsule ibérique. Il est répertorié comme en danger sur la liste rouge de l'UICN. Au XXe siècle, la population de Lynx ibérique avait décliné en raison de la chasse excessive (sponsorisée par des mesures gouvernementales), du braconnage, de la fragmentation des habitats propices et du déclin de la population de sa principale espèce de proie, le lapin d'Europe - déclin causé par la myxomatose et la maladie hémorragique du lapin.

Certains acceptent de collaborer, d'autres s'y opposent. Le même problème existe en France pour les Loups ou les Ours.

Les coulées postglaciaires de basalte à olivine( $1) émises par le Skjaldbreidur emplissent le fond du graben.

Microcarbo pygmeus
Deux cormorans pygmée séjournent depuis quelques jours sur le plan d'eau (ici à coté d'un grand cormoran).
Le Cormoran pygmée (Microcarbo pygmaeus) est le plus petit cormoran nichant en Europe, avec une taille légèrement inférieure à celle d’un Canard colvert (Anas platyrhynchos). Son aire de répartition mondiale est limitée au sud-est du Paléarctique occidental, de l’Italie et de l’Autriche aux côtes de la mer Caspienne et à l’Irak. Sa population européenne, qui représente près de 80 % du total mondial, serait comprise entre 37 600 et 50 400 individus.
En France, depuis l’hiver 2011-2012, au moins 22 données ont été signalées, ce qui constitue une augmentation importante par rapport aux sept qui avaient acceptées par le Comité d’Homologation National entre 1981 et 2009. Two pygmy cormorants have been staying for a few days on the pond (here next to a great cormorant).
The Pygmy Cormorant (Microcarbo pygmaeus) is the smallest cormorant species in Europe, with a size slightly smaller than that of a Mallard (Anas platyrhynchos). Its global range is limited to the south-east of the Western Palearctic, from Italy and Austria to the coasts of the Caspian Sea and to Iraq. Its European population, which represents nearly 80% of the world total, is estimated to be between 37,600 and 50,400 individuals.
In France, since the winter 2011-2012, at least 22 data have been reported, which constitutes a significant increase compared to the seven which were accepted by the National Homologation Committee between 1981 and 2009. This acceleration can be explained partly through an increasing number of birders and by new on-line tools to sharing data, but it is above all coherent with the progression of the species towards Western Europe , which notably led him to settle permanently in Italy and Austria.

I sometimes get the urge to "paint" a scene that my lens has captured not because I believe it needs augmentation but because my mind's eye perceived it in a certain way with a twist of artistic license. I did that here with Oregon's Painted Hills that really need no embellishment whatsoever. I simply wanted to soften the contours a bit while not distorting their shape or colors. A fun little project.
🇪🇸 Egirdir. Ciudad del centro de Turquía, situada en una península irreal en el corazón de un lago que se dice que tiene 7 colores. Se dice que el color del agua del lago cambia según el sol.
El agua del lago se utiliza para el abastecimiento urbano en las provincias de Isparta y Egirdir. Entre los peces de la familia de la perca, la especie principal que se captura en el lago es la lucioperca, que fue introducida en el lago en 1955. El agua del lago es de buena calidad. Los altos niveles de calcio y, sobre todo, de magnesio hacen que haya poca vegetación acuática, por lo que los peces tienen poco espacio para reproducirse.
El lago Egirdir solía producir entre 2000 y 2500 toneladas de cangrejos de río al año.
Sin embargo, la población de cangrejos de río se ha reducido considerablemente desde entonces (disminución debida a una enfermedad fúngica y/o al enorme aumento de la población de lucioperca). Con la introducción de la lucioperca también desaparecieron otras ocho especies de peces.

L'acqua del lago viene utilizzata come acqua potabile nelle province di Isparta ed Egirdir. Tra i pesci della famiglia del persico, la specie principale pescata nel lago è il luccioperca, introdotto nel lago nel 1955. L'acqua del lago è di buona qualità. Gli alti livelli di calcio e soprattutto di magnesio fanno sì che la vegetazione acquatica sia scarsa, il che significa che i pesci hanno uno spazio limitato per riprodursi.
Il lago Egirdir produceva dalle 2.000 alle 2.500 tonnellate di gamberi all'anno.
Successivamente, la popolazione di gamberi è crollata e da allora è quasi scomparsa (il declino è dovuto a una malattia fungina e/o all'enorme aumento della popolazione di luccioperca). Con l'introduzione del luccioperca sono scomparse anche otto specie ittiche diverse.

Les 9 toiles présentées sont donc conçues comme une décomposition du vocabulaire cinétique : couleurs, lumières, formes et suggestion du mouvement sont évoqués, sans toutefois parvenir aux caractéristiques de ce mouvement (jeux d'optique, sensation d'expansion dans l'espace, etc.), générant ainsi interrogations et frustrations chez le spectateur.La vidéo quant à elle, est construite comme une augmentation du vocabulaire cinétique1 : la peinture a disparu, le mouvement n'est plus suggéré, il existe concrètement à travers l'animation visuelle et la scénographie. L'exagération distillée avec humour par le duo de frères, se présente au public comme une véritable expérience, un parcours initiatique conçu pour provoquer une réaction physique chez le spectateur : les éléments plastiques sont perçus par l'œil, éprouvés par le corps et doivent générer à terme, des projections mentales.
The 9 paintings presented are thus conceived as a decomposition of the kinetic vocabulary : colors, lights, forms and suggestion of the movement are evoked, without however reaching the characteristics of this movement (optical games, sensation of expansion in the space, etc.), thus generating interrogations and frustrations for the viewer. Just leave them in Mother Nature's hands is what the latest Monarch study from the University of Georgia concluded.
Using seventeen years of data, scentists answered the question of why Monarchs are not reaching their wintering grounds. And it is not because of loss of habitat or lack of food along the migration route.
The two cited culprits are 1/ gardener-planted non-native (tropical) milkweeds that have more parasite spores that can infect and kill the larvae and 2/ human rearing of Monarchs that makes them less fit for migration.
The study was published yesterday by the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.

Chez les tétraonidés un de ces signaux est le peigne superciliaire, cet ornement formé de peau qui se gonfle chez le mâle durant la pariade en raison de l’augmentation du flux sanguin vers les tissus. Des recherches ont démontré qu’il y aurait une corrélation positive entre la grandeur mesuré des peignes, du niveau de testostérone et du succès copulatoire. Par contre il n’y aurait pas de de corrélation entre la dimensions observé des peignes et les comportement de combats entre mâles. Ceux-ci rétractant leurs peignes durant les affrontement probablement pour protéger cet attribut.
[EN] Color-based visual cues is an important aspect of communication in several bird species. One of these signals in grouse species is the supra orbital comb, this ornament formed of skin that male raise during courtship due to increased blood flow to the tissues. Research has shown that there is a positive correlation between the measured size of the combs the level of testosterone and copulatory success. On the other hand there is no correlation between the observed dimensions of the combs and the fighting behavior between males. These are retracting their combs during confrontation probably to protect this attribute.

Quelle joie de revoir la Tourterelle des bois, devenue si rare dans ma région ;
Strictement migratrice, elle passe l'hiver au sud du Sahara, si toutefois elle parvient à échapper aux innombrables chasseurs qui ponctuent sa route.
En Europe, l'agriculture intensive a fait disparaître leurs zones de nidification favorites : haies, bois et lisières proches des parcelles agricoles... L'augmentation de la sécheresse et la disparition des régions boisées font également diminuer leurs chances de passer l'hiver.
En France, un arrêté de suspension de chasse à la Tourterelle des bois est en cours jusqu'en fin juillet 2024 ...espérons qu'il sera reconduit !!
A l'échelle de l'Europe, l'espèce est classée comme vulnérable (VU) sur la liste rouge UICN

What a joy to see the Turtle Dove again, which has become so rare in my region;
Strictly migratory, it spends the winter south of the Sahara, if it manages to escape the countless hunters who punctuate its route.
In Europe, intensive agriculture has made their favorite nesting areas disappear: hedges, woods and edges close to agricultural plots... The increase in drought and the disappearance of wooded regions also reduce their chances of spending the winter .
In France, an order suspending hunting for the Turtle Dove is in progress until the end of July 2024...let's hope that it will be renewed!!
Across Europe, the species is classified as vulnerable (VU) on the IUCN red list.

The 9 paintings presented are thus conceived as a decomposition of the kinetic vocabulary : colors, lights, forms and suggestion of the movement are evoked, without however reaching the characteristics of this movement (optical games, sensation of expansion in the space, etc.), thus generating interrogations and frustrations for the viewer.
