My first Canon SLR was an EF which regrettably failed after more than 30 years of faithful service. But now I was able to buy one on an auction for €41,- with a Tokina 28mm. It is heavily battered, but looked operable. These images are from my first test roll with this camera.

Kalamazoo County has, for the past several years, been auctioning properties that the owner is no longer capable of, or no longer interested in, paying property taxes. Overall, it's kind of depressing, but this one doesn't make me feel so bad because years ago a fellow photographer and Flickr-user got yelled at by the owner for taking a picture of it. Admittedly, it was a bit more colorful back then.
On a brighter note, Scotts has a really great little cafe now, if you're ever in the area. Eat at Scotts Corner Cafe! They didn't yell at us; I'm pretty sure they won't yell at you, either.

Of course I attended the auction on November 6. In some ways it was more painful than being there on the last night.
Midafternoon the auction moved into the center room.

Notes: on original card mounts with the photographer’s Photographe du Musée Impérial du Louvre blindstamp. Number M108 written by hand on negative in lower right corner. Marville’s title was unofficial; the Louvre was equivocal about photography fearing that it would affect its profitable sales of engravings and banned all photographers in 1866. Image on lower left is a study for Da Vinci's painting The Virgin and Child with St Anne which is now in the Louvre.
Trained as a painter and an illustrator, Marville began photographing in 1851, and in 1862 he was named "photographer of the city of Paris." In the service of Napoleon III, he photographed Baron Haussmann's vast program of demolition and construction in Paris. Although he also photographed the modern city that replaced old Paris, he is best known for his documents of the picturesque and insalubrious districts slated for destruction.
