Auction in Beloit, Wisconsin, last Saturday. Selling out an old auto repair shop that had been there since the early 1960's. Several vintage vehicles and 34 vintage gas engines.
This 1940 Studebaker was among the vehicles sold.
At the last minute, I decided to make a quilt for the silent auction at my son's preschool. Quilt is totally inspired by this. Okay, so maybe slightly more than "inspired." Maybe I mean "nearly totally lifted.: But I loved the quilt, I had oranges on hand, and it's gender neutral. I hope CrazyMomQuilts is okay with this. Finished size will be 41"x52". I reduced my bricks even further, to 3.5" for the white and 3.5"x6.5" for the colors.

Following the initiative of Andy (shotage) I am auctioning prints of these pictures (see comments.) All the money will go to the Haiti Earthquake relief effort.
They will be 5X5 prints on Kodak Professional Endura Supra Lustre paper with a border for framing.
It's wonderfully simple! To bid, you need to comment below the image with the amount that you would like to bid (Starting bid of 20 USD please, about 15 Euros.)
When the auction closes, the person that has bid the most, wins the prints.

I hooked this piece to be auctioned in June at the "Have A Heart For Haiti" on-line auction to raise money for Haiti.
The 4 dolls I made to auction through my store. It was a lot of fun re-visiting my toxic ghoul and martian again. I especially loved making the 60's Ghoulia!
Today 10/24 at 2:30 is the Bear Auction in Downtown Hendersonville, NC in front of the Historic Courthouse on Main Street.It has become a downtown Hendersonville tradition that every fall, the bears gather at the Historic Courthouse in downtown Hendersonville, North Carolina to be auctioned off to the highest bidder. This year there are 20 one-of-a-kind bear sculptures available.
Once again, the mom's ruled the school! Our cafeteria ladies pitched in and made individual pavlova's with fresh fruit, almond bars, peanut butter fudge, more cupcakes and French Silk pies. Some cardboard stands adorned with silk flowers and ribbon.....
Not too bad!!!! And everything was out of this world delicious!!!!!!!

I made several adjustments to achieve this result. I don't know if I could repeat the same series of changes.
I shot the original photo at an automobile auction in Monterey, California.

On August 1st, 1930 Harris and A.Y. Jackson left from Sydney, Nova Scotia, on board the Beothic, a government supply ship that served the Canadian Arctic outposts.
On May 29th, 2001, Joyner Canadian Fine Art sold Baffin Island for $2,427,500, a new auction record for a work by Lawren Harris at auction. Additionally, the painting became the first Canadian work of art to fetch more than two million dollars at auction.
Larisey quotes from the artist’s description of this voyage: “While we were on this trip Jackson and I painted a large number of sketches, although painting was difficult as we usually saw the most exciting subjects while steaming through channels or while being bumped by pack ice.”
According to Larisey, Harris “went to the Arctic for personal, artistic and mystical reasons... the trip was also the logical confirmation of his nationalist ideology based on the North... “
The oil sketch for this canvas is recorded as being in the C.S. Band Collection, Toronto.
Today, very few large canvases from Harris’ Arctic trip remain in private collections.
LAPD Still Saving Lives car show, 2015. Woodland Hills, CA
Mark Kriski from KTLA 5 tv in Los Angeles hosts an auction. The women on the left (mother & daughter) won the auction for a ride in the LAPD helicopter. More than sight-seeing, they got to do a ride-along for over 3 hours as the helicopter was in service and responding to calls. I placed a bid, but they won the auction for more than $4,000. The money is used for community service programs.

The slaves that came into Fredericksburg were sold from this spot. They would be told to stand on the upper level and auctioned off to the highest bidder.
Much of America's treatment of slaves is airbrushed out of American history. Many people owned them but in historic buildings they're described as servants.
Incidentally the damage to the auction block is recent. It was attacked last year. No one knows who did it.
