Red-winded blackbird would attach any one near its nesting area, big or small.

The 'Furious Orange' flowers are back in the hood - Cherrybrook, in northern Sydney, for another round of "orange attack" in the garden. This is the so-called 'Marmalade Bush'.

An SD80MAC leads NS 11V west on the Pittsburgh Line between Birmingham and Tyrone. In their final years of active service these engines broke out a bit more from their normal South Fork pool and often led trains on various parts of the NS systems. The 7214 was originally Conrail 4126 and was retired in 2020.

This adult female Bald Eagle came flying out to chase away an Osprey that had flown in a little too close to the Eagle's nest.

Two Ruby-throated Hummingbirds spar in the garden. Thanks for visiting.

Some humming is a warning. Some noses made to fight.

This male was guarding his territory from other birds. He wasn't very good at it, but he forced a few birds to the dirt. It was a difficult photo to get with the Nikon 85mm, but it's a fast lens. I was glad to get it on such a narrow depth of field.

I completely forgot about this shot from a couple weeks back. We had been watching this Western Screech-Owl for a short time after it came to the edge of the nest box. We had taken some shots and Elliot had gone to the restroom before we left.

While I was waiting for him, a California Scrub Jay had taken umbrage to the owl being outside the box. It squawked and landed on top of the nest box warning the owl it wasn't happy. My lens was too long to capture both in the shot but you can clearly see the defense posture by the WSO.

Putting my defenses up

Cause I don’t wanna fall in love

If I ever did that

I think I’d have a heart attack

Never put my love out on the line

Never said yes to the right guy

Never had trouble getting what I want

But when it comes to you, I’m never good enough

When I don’t care

I can play ‘em like a Ken doll

Won’t wash my hair

Then make 'em bounce like a basketball

But you make me wanna act like a girl

Paint my nails and wear high heels

Yeah you, make me so nervous

That I just can’t hold your hand

(dang good thing I know CPR and more ... LOL)

Taken at Hagley uk, this guy was on his final approach to getting his food!

Taken in July on the Farne Islands. I was using my camera to protect my head and thought hey, let's capture the little buggers while they attack. After taking around a hundred shots I had 2 I thought were good enough to keep!!!

Thank God for digital Cameras.

The Limpkin had been peacefully feeding when the grackle came by and began to attack him. Fortunately it did not last long but they are definitely fierce attackers . They will even go after the snail kites and eagles. Amazing to watch nature in action !!!

Wishing you a great and blessed Tuesday !!!!!!

"Get away from my chicks!!!"

Great Black-backed Gull (Larus marinus)

The gulls on Thacher Island, home of the only operating twin lighthouses in North America, are fierce in defending their growing chicks, who have not fledged yet. I assured them I was no threat, but their English wasn't very good. They screeched and honked (depending on the species--this one has a deep voice) and dove at me until I got far enough away.

Once the babies start to fly in a few weeks, the parents will completely ignore them. No further protection or education, and certainly no college savings.

This male red squirrel (Bruce) flattened his ears because another squirrel went by at the base of that tree. The shot was taken just a moment before they started to chase each other (Squirrels-2019-9598.jpg)
