Cobra Wrestling Association - Fallout 2023 - Black Cobra & The Sensation Vs Leo Leroi & Gridlock

Black Cobra & The Sensation (The Sensation Warriors) Def. (Pin) Leo Leroi & Gridlock

For : CWA Tag Team Kampioens (No Title Change)

Info on the match : De huidige CWA tag team champions nemen het op tegen Leo Leroi en Gridlock(beauty & the beast).

A rather fine folder showing examples and samples of letter headings and headed notepaper issued by The National Association of Engravers & Die-Stampers and showing the craftsmanship of various of their members. Although not dated the back cover is stamped with a receipt stamp of 25 May 1939. The various sheets of individual notepaper echo examples often found in contemporary Penrose's Annuals. Although the manufacturers and their details are correct I think that all the 'companies' are ficticious although there was, for example, a well known Edinburgh gardening and florists company called Dobbie's. I'm not sure if that, for example, is 'real' and used with consent or if it is simply a variation on a theme.

The examples however show some great contemporary styles of lettering and typefaces along with the vignettes that accompany the text and headings. This very contemporary example is by the London based company of Baddeley Brothers (London) Ltd, or Moor Lane, EC2 and is for the "Modern Shoe Store" of Queens Road, London "W19"

A rather interesting plan of Hamburg, the great north German city and port, issued by the Tourist Association of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg (Fremdenverkehrsverein den Freien und Hansestadt Hamburg) in 1952. This double sided folded sheet, on poor quality apper, shows the city as a whole and its approaches, along with a more detailed city plan.

The city centre and inner suburbs, that had suffered grevious damage from wartime bombing, are dominated by the River Elbe and the Binnenalster and Aussenalster lakes. By the 1950s and into the 1960s, the city was in the midst of post-war reconstruction as well as regaining its once famous reputation of being quite avant-garde! The plan shows the main streets (with an interesting shaded 'tick' detail') alongside the S-bahn and U-bahn services as well as the city's tram network. Hamburg is possibly the largest German city to have abandoned its tram system one reason being the development of the more integrated heavy rail and metro network that is overseen by the HVV, Hamburger Verkehrsverbund, that would be formed in 1965 to oversee the transport network. The plan also shows many of the ferries that are still of importance in this maritime city.

The sights include the architecturally important 'Chile House', the Ohnsorg Theatre (with "low German" shows that I take to be more popular entertainment) and the Kammerspiele, described as 'intimate theatre'. Number 29 notes "apartment blocks" adjacent to the Hoheluftbrücke station. I think, although I'd welcome some information, these are now "Listed" as being of architectural merit.

The cover is dominated by the marvellous graphic of the Hanseatic City's coat of Arms along with a representation of a ship or liner atop the globe! I should add it shows the designers and printers; The title page is by Karberg, the plan by Baass, the 'clichés' that I think may refer to the vignettes? by Uhrmacher & Co, and the printing by Christians of Hamburg.

The chorus of voices rose into the air as they sang the opening prayer... and water ... a lot of water and in each corner an evangelic church... It was raining...there was no place to hide... the cold penetrate the bones ... there was a movie to see. lights , zebra paths, cars, paulista at night ... maybe the wether to take a sauna?, maybe to invite her to a coffe?, maybes, maybes.... Trying to remember the last sentence: Please, honey. I promise. It won't happen again...? doesn't help to pray to him... he is in me...

And uncertain of that battle, M. gave another signal.. and my rocket ships were rising high into the dark sun and he keeps his eyes close and of course it was done again...

Kevin Williams (Skeleton Crew) Def. (Pin) Rob Raw

For : CWA Kampioen (Vacant Title)

The £1 and £5 Notes

Note the bundles of banknotes in the photograph.

In 1984 it was announced that the English £1 note would be completely phased out. It was gradually replaced by the £1 coin, and fully removed from circulation in 1988.

The Bank of England £5 note, known informally as a fiver, is now the smallest denomination of banknote issued by the Bank of England.

In September 2016, a new polymer note was introduced, featuring the image of Queen Elizabeth II on one side and a portrait of Winston Churchill on the other.

The old paper note, first issued in 2002 and bearing the image of prison reformer Elizabeth Fry on the reverse, was phased out, and ceased to be legal tender after the 5th. May 2017.

The Little Mermaid Statue

The Little Mermaid is a bronze statue by Edvard Eriksen, depicting a mermaid becoming human. The sculpture is displayed on a rock by the waterside at the Langelinie promenade in Copenhagen, Denmark. It is 1.25 metres (4.1 ft) tall, and weighs 175 kilograms (385 lb).

Based on the 1837 fairy tale of the same name by Danish author Hans Christian Andersen, the statue is a Copenhagen icon, and has been a major tourist attraction since its unveiling.

In recent decades it has become a popular target for defacement by vandals and political activists.

-- History of The Little Mermaid

The statue was commissioned in 1909 by Carl Jacobsen, son of the founder of Carlsberg, who had been fascinated by a ballet about the fairytale in Copenhagen's Royal Theatre.

He asked the ballerina, Ellen Price, to model for the statue.

The sculptor Edvard Eriksen created the bronze statue, which was unveiled on the 23rd. August 1913. The statue's head was modelled after Price, but as the ballerina did not agree to model in the nude, the sculptor's wife, Eline Eriksen, was used for the body.

The Copenhagen City Council arranged to move the statue to the Danish Pavilion for Expo 2010 in Shanghai. This was the first time it had been moved from its perch since it was installed almost a century earlier.

While the statue was away in Shanghai, an authorised copy was displayed on a rock in the lake in Copenhagen's nearby Tivoli Gardens. Copenhagen officials have considered moving the statue several meters out into the harbour to discourage vandalism and to prevent tourists from climbing onto it, but as of May 2014 the statue remains on dry land at the water side at Langelinie.

-- Vandalism of The Little Mermaid

The statue has been damaged and defaced many times since the mid-1960's for various reasons, but has been restored each time.

-- On the 24th. April 1964, the statue's head was sawn off and stolen by politically-oriented artists of the Situationist movement, amongst them Jørgen Nash.

The head was never recovered, and a new head was produced and placed on the statue.

-- On the 22nd. July 1984, her right arm was sawn off and returned two days later by two young men.

-- In 1990, an attempt to sever the statue's head left an 18 cm (7 in) deep cut in her neck.

-- On the 6th. January 1998, the statue was decapitated again. The culprits were never found, but the head was returned anonymously to a nearby television station, and re-attached on the 4th. February.

-- On the night of the 10th. September 2003, the statue was knocked off its base with explosives, and later found in the harbour's waters. Holes had been blasted in her wrist and knee.

-- Paint has been poured on the statue several times, including one episode in 1963, and two in March and May 2007.

-- On the 8th. March 2006, a dildo was attached to the statue's hand, green paint was dumped over it, and the date March 8th. was written on it. It is likely that this vandalism was connected to International Women's Day, which is on March 8th.

-- The statue was found drenched in red paint on the 30th. May 2017 with the message:

"Danmark [sic] defend the

whales of the Faroe Islands."

This is a reference to whaling in the Faroe Islands (an autonomous country in the Kingdom of Denmark), written on the ground in front of the statue.

-- Two weeks later, on the 14th. June 2017, the statue was drenched in blue and white paint. "Befri Abdulle" (Free Abdulle) was written in front of the statue, but it was unclear what this referred to at the time.

Later, police said the writing was likely referring to Abdulle Ahmed, a Somalian refugee who has been detained in a high security unit in Denmark since 2001 due to a custody sentence.

-- On the 13th. January 2020, "Free Hong Kong" was painted on the stone on which the statue is mounted by supporters of the 2019–20 Hong Kong protests.

-- On the 3rd. June 2020, in the wake of the George Floyd protests and Black Lives Matter movement, the statue was vandalised with the words "racist fish" scrawled on its stone base.

This attack left observers and specialists puzzled, because nothing related to the statue, H. C. Andersen or his fairy tale could be construed as racist.

-- Dressing of The Little Mermaid

Although not regarded as vandalism since no damage is done to the statue, people have also repeatedly dressed it, either for fun or to make more serious statements.

-- In 2004, the statue was draped in a burqa in a protest against Turkey's application to join the European Union.

-- In May 2007, it was again found draped in Muslim dress and a head scarf.

-- Other examples are times where a Christmas hat has been put on the head, or it has been dressed in the jerseys of the Norwegian or Swedish national football teams (the Danish team has a highly competitive rivalry with the Swedish team).

-- Copies of The Little Mermaid

Aside from the statue on display, which is a replica of the original, more than thirteen undamaged copies of the statue are located around the world, including California, Iowa, Romania, Madrid, Seoul, and a half-sized copy in Calgary, Alberta.

The grave of Danish-American entertainer Victor Borge includes a copy as well. Copenhagen Airport also has a replica of the mermaid, along with a statue of Andersen.

A statue of The Little Mermaid also looks out over Larvotto beach in Monaco. She was created, in 2000, with multiple layers of metal by Kristian Dahlgard, in homage to the Danes who live in Monaco and to the late Prince Rainier III.

A copy of the statue forms the Danish contribution to the International Peace Gardens in Salt Lake City. The half-size replica was stolen on the 26th. February 2010, but was recovered on the 7th. April 2010, abandoned in the park.

A replica of the statue was presented by Denmark to Brazil in 1960, in honour of the construction of Brasília, the country's new capital that was inaugurated in that year. It was installed 5 years later in front of the main building of the Brazilian Navy Command, in Brasília, Federal District, where it remains to this day.

Copyright Issues

The statue is under copyright until 2029, seventy years after the 1959 death of the creator. However as of 2019, replicas can be purchased, authorised for sale by the Eriksen family.

A replica was installed in Greenville, Michigan in 1994 to celebrate the town's Danish heritage, at a cost of $10,000.

However in 2009 the Artists Rights Society asked the town for a $3,800 licensing fee, claiming the work violated Eriksen's copyright. At about 76 cm (30 in) in height, the replica in Greenville is half the size of the original, and has a different face and larger breasts, as well as other distinguishing factors. The copyright claim was later dropped.

The 1972 statue of a female diver (entitled Girl in a Wetsuit by Elek Imredy) in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada was commissioned when, unable to obtain permission to reproduce the Copenhagen statue, Vancouver authorities selected a modern version.

In 2016, a similar statue was installed at the harbor in Asaa, Denmark, where it is also mounted on the top of a rock. The heirs of the sculptor are (2021) suing, claiming that the Asaa statue bears too close a resemblance to the famous one, and they are demanding damages and the destruction of the Asaa statue.

Censorship

Social Democrat politician Mette Gjerskov tried to post a photo of The Little Mermaid on her Facebook page, but was initially told that it had "Too much bare skin or sexual undertones", and the post was blocked. Facebook however later rescinded the ban, and approved the image for posting.

NRMA (formerly National Roads and Motorists' Association) is an Australian organisation offering roadside assistance, advocacy for motorists and road-users, motoring advice, car servicing, International Driving Permits, travel and other services in New South Wales and the Australian Capital Territory. Formed in 1920 under President John Christian Watson (who was to remain in that role until his death in 1940) its original aim was not to provide road service or insurance, but to obtain "reasonable and just legislation" to fund and improve roads. At this time the planning and financing of main roads, in particular, had fallen into chaos following the defeat of the Main Roads Bill in 1911(ed. Shades of the present policies of the Welsh assembly). The 1919 Local Government Act left all decisions to local councils, where decisions were made "from the point of view of local utility." Through-routes and main roads were assigned a low priority. The aims of the NRMA were to "cover everything necessary for the advancement and protection of motorists in all circumstances," a goal strikingly similar to that of RACA. This positioned the NRMA as a competitor as much as collaborator, particularly when it began to employ its own road service "guides." These returned servicemen "of exemplary character" patrolled specific areas, including the popular beaches of Coogee, Bondi Beach and Bronte, or were based at congested spots on the roads out of the city where they could receive messages by phone or relayed by other motorists. In 1939, the NRMA had 66,234 members and a huge road service operation. When the war in Europe began, it made a £10,000 donation to Australia's war effort, and followed RACA's early lead in forming the NRMA Transport Auxiliary. This force of 500 owner-drivers would provide rapid troop transport if required. By the 1970's membership had the 1 million mark, a number that doubled in the 1980's.

NRMA remains a mutual company owned by its members. Insurance Australia Group Limited is a listed company owned by its shareholders. It has a number of operating subsidiaries using the NRMA brand, including NRMA Insurance Limited, as well as a number of other insurance and related brands. In 2004-05 aquired the Australian arm of the Travelodge Hotel Group and have since added Thrifty Australia a car rental group, SIXT (Australia) car hire agency, and a major stake in Adventure World thus expanding its travel and holiday operations by investing in tourist parks

Amy Jeter of the Virginian-Pilot takes notes as she stands in the hallway of a damaged school in New Orleans.

Cotswold Sculptors Association

Goolwa.

The Currency Creek Special Survey was taken out in 1839 by the Currency Creek Association based in England. Locally it was taken out by their agent Robert Wright on behalf of about 30 men. The Currency Creek Association laid out a major town which they hoped would become the New Orleans of the South. It was after all on a good river, near a great lake and near the mouth of the might Murray River system just like the location of New Orleans at the mouth of the Mississippi in the USA. They named it after the local river- Currency Creek. They also laid out a much smaller port for the town which they called Goolwa. Currency Creek town covered 8 acres, Goolwa 2 acres. History would show they made the wrong decision as Goolwa prospered and Currency Creek withered! One of the early explorers of this region Young Hutchinson (who explored with Thomas Strangways) liked the area so much that he became a major landowner in Goolwa in 1856. Another explorer William Younghusband gave his name to the peninsula near the Murray Mouth. Although the town was laid out in 1840 sales were minimal until the Governor committed the state to developing Goolwa as a river port and Port Elliot as a coastal port for future riverboat trade up the Murray with a horse railway to connect the two. Work began on this £20,000 project in 1851. (An alternate plan to build a canal between the two at an estimated cost of £28,000 was not pursued by the government.) Apart from the Currency Creek Special Survey of 1839 the government also surveyed land along the proposed rail route to Port Elliot in 1849 making land available to buyers. The first land purchases in this region were made in 1849 at Middleton. But Governor Young’s dream of river trade up the Murray and a railway to Port Elliot were not generally popular. A newspaperman wrote in the SA Gazette and Mining Journal in 1851 “There is great difficulty in characterising Sir Henry Young's job "in terms polite". The Goolwa Railway, in the nostrils of the colonists, is odorous of assafoetida, and there are in their mouths, in common use, epithets reflecting upon his Excellency far more offensive than have ever yet appeared in print... Where are the produce, the population, the traffic of the Murray crowding the banks, and suffering for want of an outlet to a market? Why, a single bullock dray once a month will suffice to bring to Adelaide all its exportable produce for the next five years...”

At Goolwa work proceeded and the government invested in the new port town with the construction of the Railway Superintendent’s house in 1852(first occupied in 1854) and the Goolwa wharf in 1852. But the town laid out by the Currency Creek Special Survey in 1840 was still almost non-existent. Its English names like Fenchurch Street and Liverpool Street are now located in North Goolwa. The government surveyed a government town in 1853 next to the Currency Creek Survey town. The first commercial building in the new government town was the Goolwa Hotel (oldest single storey part) built in 1853 and the two storey section was added in around 1865. In that year the Governor announced a prize of several thousand pounds for the first river boat to prove the Murray was navigable from Goolwa to Wentworth on the Darling. The Governor and his wife and party journeyed with Captain Cadell. Meantime Captain Randell of Mannum also set off about the same time and the two boats raced to Wentworth. The friend of the Governor - Cadell picked up the prize money and Randell received nothing. But this river boat expedition was so important to indicate a prosperous future and so Goolwa began to emerge as a small town with the main street named Cadell after the famous riverboat captain. Next to the government town “Little Scotland” was subdivided into town blocks in 1854. Sales of more town blocks continued in 1855 followed by more in 1856 and some of the first buildings included the bow fronted general store in the Main Street near the old horse tram museum, the first Post office 1857(now the Visitor Information Centre), the Police station and Courthouse 1859, the Customs House 1859, the former Australasian Hotel 1857(closed 1934) and the Corio Hotel also 1857. Land speculators could see a future for Goolwa by then and they also began to purchase blocks of land. The first residential stone cottages were erected around 1857. Goolwa prospered in the 1860s and 1870s when significant development occurred.

One of the finest private buildings of this period from 1860 to 1880 was what is now known as Rose Eden House. This grand two storey Italianate house was built in 1876 with some wrought iron lacework and upper veranda. It was built for the town school headmaster Mr Phillip Hill who must have run a private school in the town as well as the government school, of which he was headmaster, as that school did not open until 1879. But Mr Hill was a headmaster from 1873 of the town school which became the state school after the passing of the 1785 Education Act. It is claimed that he accommodated school boarders in this large house so that they could attend the Goolwa government school from 1879. Hill left the town of Goolwa in 1884 and the property was sold by him in 1886 when it was known as Hygiene House. It changes hands several times before it was purchased by the SA government in 1913 as a residence for the headmaster of Goolwa Primary School. It served this purpose until sold by the Education Department in 1973. In 2005 it was restored and re-opened as luxury bed and breakfast accommodation with the new name of Rose Eden House. Other fine structures of this 1860 to 1890 era are:

•Thomas Goode’s General Store next to the Goolwa Hotel was built in 1860 and then rebuilt in classical style in 1884. Thomas Goode was the first Post Master of Goolwa in 1857.

•the former Bank of South Australia (1872).

•the Holy Evangelist Anglican church was built in 1867, with the tower added in 1905. But the church was surrounded in controversy as the Governor gave a free land grant in 1855 for the church to be erected.

•the town morgue behind the Courthouse 1883.

•the first part of the Institute opened in 1878. That was the rear part of the current building in a very different style. The Town Hall (now the Alexandrina Council Chamber/Library) was added to the Institute in 1907 facing onto Cadell Street. It was later doubled in size when a matching room was added to the 1907 one.

•the superb Gothic state school built in 1879. The first town school began in Goolwa in 1855.

• the figurehead from the wreck of the Mozambique on the roof line of the Goolwa Hotel. The 403 ton barque Mozambique was built in 1832. It was wrecked off the Coorong in 1854 on a voyage from London to Melbourne. The 22 crew and 24 passengers were all saved but one died from the experience.

•the magnificent ceiling paintings in the Corio Hotel dining room (The Great Yankee Doodle Tobacco mural

•the original railway station(1872) now an opportunity shop beside public toilet block near the town rotunda. The railway station as moved to the Goolwa wharf after 1884 when steam trains started operating through to Adelaide. The old yards converted to a park, now the Soldiers’ Memorial Park as the rail yards moved to the Goolwa wharf where it is still located.

•Highlands House in Goyder Street built in 1853. Probably the oldest residence in Goolwa still in use.

The early churches of Goolwa apart from the Anglican Church include the Congregational Church built in 1859 and now a dental practice office but it was also used as a Catholic Church from 1896 to 1961, the Wesleyan Methodist Church built in 1861 with transepts added in 1881 and the Goolwa Church of Christ built in 1905. The Anglican Church was surrounded in some controversy as without any real authority Governor MacDonnell donated a town block to the Anglican Church in 1855. This was against state policy as it was favouring the Anglican Church as an established church. But the Premier of the day Boyle Finniss put some political spin on it and said the Governor had the right give away one of the government reserves in Goolwa. The local Congregational Minister Reverend Newland of Encounter Bay disputed this and rightly objected but to no avail. The newspapers were flooded with letters of objection.

The fine stone Goolwa flourmill was totally demolished in the 1920s. Edward Dutton had a brewery at Goolwa for some years from 1864 to 1879. Shipbuilding as in river boats and repairs was a major industry in Goolwa but few of these structures remain as they were usually iron and timber and relatively temporary. One of the main companies repairing and building boats were the Goolwa Foundry and Iron Works and Abraham Graham’s Patent Slip and Iron Works established in 1864. Abraham Graham owned Graham’s Castle etc. Ten river barges or steamers were made at Goolwa between 1853 and 1859. Many more followed. Among the many paddle stammers built in Goolwa were the PS Industry (number two) in 1911, the government owned vessel named Prince Alfred (1867), the Canberra a diesel paddle steamer built late in 1912 and well known paddle steamers such as the Eureka, the Goolwa, the Avoca, the Darling, the Wentworth, the Queen, the Miriam, the Express, the Princess Royal, the Cadell, the Victor, the Kookaburra, the Renmark, etc. Around 60 paddle steamers and barges were constructed in Goolwa with the last completed in 1912. As the ship building industry collapsed in the late 1880s much of the foundry equipment was sold to the Chaffey Brothers at Renmark for their irrigation works and boiler pumps.
