Leo Leroi was dan ook gefrustreerd omdat ze de wedstrijd hadden verloren , en wil het nog eens overdoen maar met een andere partner namelijk Gridlock.
De huidege CWA tag team champions ,the sensation warriors besloten dan om Leo Leroi nog 1 kans te geven om voor die titels te gaan.
Indien hij met zij partner faalt , is zijn kans verkeken en verstevigen Cobra en Sensation hun tag team belts.
Dit word dan ook terug een match om naaruit te kijken.
Blijven Cobra en Sensation de CWA tag team champions , verlengen en verstevigen ze dit nog ,of word er een einde gemaakt aan een mooie reeks overwinningen ,en worden Leo Leroi en Gridlock de nieuwe tage team champions?

I did get a chance to hold this kitty. It is like holding a new born baby...so warm lovable. Even though they are hairless they do actually have "baby peach fuzz. Their skin is incredibly soft to the touch. "thanks for the memories has me holding her here.

One of a series of small booklets issued by the Design & Industries Association (in this case 'jointly' with the Council for the Preservation of Rural England) in the 1920s and '30s dealing with matters of design, architecture and planning. Or rather, as they saw it, the lack of! The inter-war period, with the evidence of earlier Victorian and Edwardian excess and the rapidly developing suburbs of Britain, was rich territory for those concerned with aesthetic matters such as the impact of inappropriate design and architecture and rampant advertising. These were the years before effective planning laws, although some restrictions on 'ribbon development. alongside main roads was introduced pre-WW2, and it would be 1947 before the post-war Labour Government brought in the Town & Country Planning Axt. This legislation did deal with many of the issues raised in booklets such as this and by the organisations concerned.
The booklet takes a look around the ancient town of St Albans in Hertfordshire and, through photos and text by Clough William-Ellis, the eminent architect, notes the 'good, bad and the ugly'. The DIA was formed in 1915 by a group of designers, businessmen and industrialists intent on raising the standard and prominence of good design and the value this brought. One important figure in the DIA was Frank Pick, the London Underground manager, who brought the ethos of the DIA into play during his work to improve London's Transport before the outbreak of WW2.

After contacting Theodor A.R. Strauss, 1988-1993 secretary of Nederlandse Reünisten Vereniging China (NRCV, Dutch Reunists Association China) about a detail I found about works performed for Hong Kong Kai Tak airport in 1927 by Netherlands Harbour Works Co., he brought me in contact with two sons of an engineer who worked for the company in the 1930s to 1960s. The eldest son of Jan and Mieke Wesselingh, Hans (J.A.) Wesselingh, had written a document about the story of their parents in China and the younger son Rob Wesselingh sent me additional information via e-mail. With their kind permission, part of their photos and story are shared here.
Jan Wesselingh (1904-1971) was born as the third child of a farmer’s family in the Netherlands. He was the only child to study, at the Technical University of Applied Science in Delft (Technische Hoogeschool Delft). Nowadays it is still a Technical University of fame. Due to the Great Depression, which started in 1929, just after Jan’s graduation it was very difficult to find a job. However, Jan was adventurous and a little cheeky and via his professor who supervised his graduation, he was offered a job to work in China for Nederlandsche Maatschappij voor Havenwerken (NMH, Netherlands Harbour Works Co.), ca. 1932. Travel by boat took over a month and was rather expensive, so his first contract lasted for four years, after which he received three months of leave. He worked along the China coast, at dredging and harbour building projects.
In 1936, during his leave in the Netherlands, he met his future wife, Mieke Teepe (1912-2002). Their romance was not an easy one, Mieke’s father had to be persuaded by other family members to let his daughter live in Ireland for three months, where Jan was doing a job for NMH. This gave them a chance to see if they were fit for one another. The outcome was positive, and they married in October 1936 (photo).
Directly after their wedding, they travelled to Berlin and left for an 11-day train journey with the Trans-Siberia Express. Via Moscow and Lake Baikal, which they found very beautiful, they travelled through the Soviet Union and Japanese occupied Manchuria, to reach Beijing (Peking at the time). According to Mieke’s diary it was one of the most beautiful cities she knew. Few multi-storey buildings and very characteristic architecture. Foreigners had their own community in Beijing, a community which changed all the time. New arrivals were welcomed heartily.
After a few days they travelled by train to Shanghai, a poor and dirty harbour city in their view. Then by boat to Hong Kong, fifteen hundred kilometres south. Hong Kong, an English colony at the time, gave them a cosmopolitan and well organised impression. China impoverished greatly after the Western imposed favourable tax treatment of companies in the foreign concessions in China, after the 1839-1860 Opium Wars. It explains what they experienced: a great many foreigners, an abundance of goods for sale and many recreational opportunities. A major difference in comparison to the impoverished Chinese cities they had seen.
The final part of the journey was only two hundred kilometres, to Guangzhou (Canton at the time). The city gave them a poor, dirty impression and seemed to be not without danger. Jan Wesselingh was project leader in a naval harbour construction project, in Huangpu District, Guangzhou (at the time Whampoa, south-east of Guangzhou). The 1938 photo shows how rural Huangpu District still was at the time.
Hans Wesselingh was born in Guangzhou (Canton) in 1937. One year later, the family fled after the Japanese bombarded the city. They left on an English gunboat, fearful times!
The photo of the eight figurines represents seven wise men and a woman, Hans Wesselingh was once explained. Supposedly, the figurines were given to his parents for the occasion of his birth, by their housekeeper, Mrs Ah-Lin, when they were living in Huangpu District. She continued to work as their housekeeper when they were living in Hong Kong after the 2nd World war.
After the 1938 evacuation, Jan Wesselingh found employment for the dredger fleet, which managed to escape from Guangzhou as well. There was work in Tasmania, where the port of Devonport had to be dredged and enlarged. Rob Wesselingh was born there in 1940. In 1942 the project was finished and new work for the dredger fleet had to be found. In Iran (Persia at the time), a new project was contracted. On the way to Iran, Jan Wesselingh arrived in Jakarta (Batavia at the time), where he was enlisted as a reserve air force officer, after Japan had declared war on the Netherlands East Indies. When the Dutch capitulated, Jan Wesselingh was imprisoned in a Japanese camp. He survived and returned to Tasmania.
The family returned to the Netherlands and early 1947 they left for Hong Kong, where Jan continued to work for MVH to coordinate Far East activities. In Hong Kong there were large projects such as typhoon shelters in Causeway Bay and Aberdeen and another project was in Macau.
In Rob Wesselingh’s recollection, the activities in Hong Kong were preparations for the large project of the new Kai Tak airport, which was going to be built on a dam in the harbour. In the end a French company managed to ‘capture’ the assignment, when they were forced out of Vietnam (French Indochina at the time) and offered the project at a price far below market rates.
The 1953 photo of a dredger in Hong Kong gives an impression of the type of work Jan performed. In the 1950s, Jan Wesselingh was the head of the Far East department at NMH, the only large contractor which had dared to stay in Hong Kong after the Communist revolution in China. He supervised some 2,000 people at the time, most of them Chinese workers.
Rob Wesselingh went to the Netherlands in 1950 and after education and military service, he was sent by KJCPL (the successor of Java-China Japan Line, where Charles Gesner van der Voort’s friends Dorone van den Brandeler, Frikkie Wiersum and Harry de Haan worked in Shanghai) to Hong Kong, where he married in 1965 and where their three children were born.

The timber tram/bus shelters are important for their association with the development of public transport in Brisbane, particularly the tramway system. The shelters are important for remaining in continuous use as waiting shelters for the public transport system in Brisbane since the early 20th century. The shelters are important as evidence of the former tram routes and of a form of public transport no longer in existence in Brisbane. In form, materials, arrangement of elements and location these shelters are representative of tram/bus waiting shelters. Robust functional structures with simple elegant lines the shelters are distinctive visual elements in the streetscape. The tram/ bus shelters are important for their association with the work of the Brisbane City Council’s Transport Department, responsible for the operation of the tramway system from 1925 to 1969.
Shelter Design Trams were a feature of Brisbane streets from 1885 until 1969. From the 1920s to the 1950s The Brisbane Tramway Trust and then the Brisbane City Council erected a number of timber waiting shelter sheds along the tram/bus routes. Most shelters were constructed by Brisbane City Council in response to petitioning by community groups or progress associations. A survey of usage was undertaken by BCC to determine the most viable locations for the shelters. Waiting sheds promoted the use of the tram/bus system by providing a comfortable waiting area with some protection from the elements. Some shelters were large and purpose-built for the site but most were free-standing shelters constructed to standard designs. In this survey three standard shelter types used during this period were identified – P.1008 Standard Waiting Shelter (hipped roof pavilion shelter); Standard Small Type Tramway Shelter Shed No. 2512 (skillion roof shelter); and the gable roof shelter. Only drawings for the P.1008 and No. 2512 types were located during this study.
The gable roof shelter design may have been from a shelter constructed earlier in the 20th century during the time The Brisbane Tramway Company owned and operated the tramway network. The shelter in Chatsworth Road near the corner with Upper Cornwall Street was constructed in 1915 to shelter Greenslopes tram patrons. It had points for lights that the tram drivers would turn on at sunset and off when the last tram left. The P.1008 drawings were drawn up by the Brisbane City Council Department of Works, Planning and Building Branch and signed by City Architect F.G. Costello in 1946. The Standard Small Type Shelter No. 2512 was drawn up by the Transport Department of the Planning and Building Branch and signed by City Architect F.G. Costello in 1945. The P.1008 type shelter closely resembles the shelters constructed by the Brisbane Tramway Trust in the 1920s and 1930s. No drawings for these earlier shelters have been located and this study has been unable to confirm that the 1946 drawings were based on these earlier shelters but the physical evidence suggests that this is the case. The designs for the shelters are uncharacteristic of work designed by Costello which may indicate that the shelter designs are continuing an earlier idiom.
Brisbane Tramway History:
In 1884 a private company, the Metropolitan Tramway and Investment Company, laid Brisbane’s first tram tracks along approximately 10.5 kilometres from Woolloongabba to Breakfast Creek, with branches to the Exhibition Building and New Farm. The company began the operation of a horse-drawn passenger tram system in 1885 with the trams running on rails from the North Quay to the Exhibition Building and Breakfast Creek and later extending the routes to Bulimba Ferry, New Farm, Logan Road and West End.
A power station to supply current to electric trams was constructed in Countess Street in 1897 and The Brisbane Tramways Company introduced the first electric trams to Brisbane that year after purchasing the early horse car system, converting it to electric operation and expanding and extending the routes. Brisbane’s tramway system experienced rapid expansion in response to the growth in the City’s population. From a population of 101,554 in 1891 Brisbane had expanded to a population of 139,480 in 1911, which then doubled to 209,168 by 1921. The number of cars in operation increased from 20 in 1897 to 172 in 1916. At the conclusion of the First World War there was general support for the notion that the tramway system be owned and operated by a public authority rather than a private company. In 1922, the Brisbane Tramway Trust was inaugurated by an Act of Parliament and the Trust assumed ownership and control of the tramways in January 1923. The tramway system had failed to keep pace with the expansion of Brisbane so the Trust faced a considerable backlog of work. It undertook the construction of repair workshops and car depots, laying of additional tracks, purchase of additional cars and the introduction of remote control of points at busy intersections. Innovations introduced by the Trust included the construction of passenger waiting shelter sheds, advertising in trams and a suggestions board scheme. The 1920s and 1930s was a period of tramways expansion following the Brisbane City Council acquisition of the tramways system from the Brisbane Tramways Trust in 1925. The Council continued with the upgrading and extension of the system. During the first half of the 20th century public transport was important in Brisbane and remained the principal form of transport for most residents. By the 1950s Brisbane had one of the highest levels of public transport usage in Australia. The tram system was the principal form of public transport in Brisbane until the 1960s. It is thought that the hipped roof and skillion roof shelters identified in this study were constructed between the 1920s and 1950s by the Brisbane Tramway Trust and then by Brisbane City Council. Most of the routes on which these shelters have been identified were constructed during this period. Further research is required to establish construction dates for the gable roof shelters. As the tram routes to Windsor and Coorparoo were established in 1914 and 1915, the shelter construction post dates this. The construction of the hipped roof waiting shelter in Merthyr Road, New Farm was approved by the Trust in 1924 and probably constructed in 1925.
In 1924 the Brisbane Tramway Trust extended the tram service to Ashgrove, demonstrating a confidence in the future of the suburb. The release of 855 allotments in the Glenlyon Gardens estate in 1924 was the catalyst for the development of Ashgrove as a residential suburb. It is thought that the waiting shelters along Waterworks Road (Ithaca Bridge, Oleander Drive and Stewart Place) were constructed at sometime between the mid-1920s and the 1940s. The Rosalie line opened along Elizabeth Street, Rosalie in 1904 and was extended in 1930 to Rainworth, terminating in Boundary Road adjacent to Rainworth Primary School. The shelters on Boundary Road were built after this 1930 extension of the line. Between 1937 and 1939 the tramline extended to Bardon and the Simpsons Road shelter was built some time after this. From 1940 the Brisbane City Council trialed the use of buses with diesel engines in areas not serviced by trams. In 1940 a diesel bus service ran from Kelvin Grove through Herston and along Butterfield Street to the City. The shelter on Butterfield Street remains as evidence of the diesel bus service which became the backbone of Brisbane City Council public transport after the closure of the tramway system in 1969.
Following the Second World War, Brisbane experienced a housing boom which encouraged the Council to extend its electric tramway network. At this time the Monday to Friday the morning peak services had 246 tram cars operating and 296 cars were required to meet the evening peak traffic. During the day each route was serviced by a tram every ten minutes. However from the 1950s various factors converged to influence a decline in the patronage of the tram system. An increasing reliance on the private motor car reduced the number of tram passengers and the growth of the Brisbane City Council’s bus fleet gradually outstripped that of the tram system. Urban sprawl saw more and more families move to outer suburbs not connected to the tram system, and a lack of investment in the technological development of trams compared with increasing expenditure on diesel buses contributed to the conversion of Brisbane’s public transport system from trams to buses. In 1962 the Paddington tram depot was burned to the ground with the loss of 65 trams (20% of the fleet). In 1965 the Wilbur Smith Plan, a report on the future transport and traffic requirements of Brisbane, recommended the closure of the tramway system and a conversion to a bus program. As a result of all these various influences and events, the tram system in Brisbane was discontinued in 1969. The tram waiting shelters remain, providing evidence of a mode of transport no longer in use.

"The architectural office of Palmqvist and Sjöström got off to a flying start when it won all three prizes, and even received the lone purchase, in the design competition for the building of the Ostrobothnian Student Association in 1910. Born in Kalajoki and educated in Oulu, Palmqvist’s own roots lay in Ostrobothnia.
The Ostrobothnian Student Association´s building, familiarly known as ‘Botta’, represents a clear return to 19th century ideas. Its symmetrical and robust cubic appearance, prominent cornice, slightly retracted top storey and handsome gambrel roof are features that became increasingly common in the 1910s and 1920s, ones particularly typical of architecture in Etu-Töölö. The judicious use of red granite as a component in the façades clearly marks the building as a continuation of the art nouveau era. Particularly noteworthy as well are the playful tops of the half-columns on the main façade featuring various pipers. Founded in 1996, the community service organization at 5152 S. Halsted St. is affiliated with the National Labor Federation (NATLFED). The building was constructed in 1903.
Not surprisingly, an elderly woman came out and asked what I was photographing, saying "We live in these buildings." She seemed satisfied that photographing buildings is a hobby and I'm an amateur (and not a government spy).

A rather interesting plan of Hamburg, the great north German city and port, issued by the Tourist Association of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg (Fremdenverkehrsverein den Freien und Hansestadt Hamburg) in 1952. This double sided folded sheet, on poor quality apper, shows the city as a whole and its approaches, along with a more detailed city plan.
The city centre and inner suburbs, that had suffered grevious damage from wartime bombing, are dominated by the River Elbe and the Binnenalster and Aussenalster lakes. By the 1950s and into the 1960s, the city was in the midst of post-war reconstruction as well as regaining its once famous reputation of being quite avant-garde! The plan shows the main streets (with an interesting shaded 'tick' detail') alongside the S-bahn and U-bahn services as well as the city's tram network. Hamburg is possibly the largest German city to have abandoned its tram system one reason being the development of the more integrated heavy rail and metro network that is overseen by the HVV, Hamburger Verkehrsverbund, that would be formed in 1965 to oversee the transport network. The plan also shows many of the ferries that are still of importance in this maritime city.
The sights include the architecturally important 'Chile House', the Ohnsorg Theatre (with "low German" shows that I take to be more popular entertainment) and the Kammerspiele, described as 'intimate theatre'. Number 29 notes "apartment blocks" adjacent to the Hoheluftbrücke station. I think, although I'd welcome some information, these are now "Listed" as being of architectural merit.
The cover is dominated by the marvellous graphic of the Hanseatic City's coat of Arms along with a representation of a ship or liner atop the globe! I should add it shows the designers and printers; The title page is by Karberg, the plan by Baass, the 'clichés' that I think may refer to the vignettes? by Uhrmacher & Co, and the printing by Christians of Hamburg.

And uncertain of that battle, M. gave another signal.. and my rocket ships were rising high into the dark sun and he keeps his eyes close and of course it was done again...
