Assistance Needed... I have someone here taking my picture.. She is described as a short thing.. No bigger than a gnat... you can't miss her. This is LT. Tommy Merricks of the Danville Police Dept, He is also over the SWAT Unit. Very dedicated to the job

This was taken on a training day. The Yellow Lab, Miss Dharma, is a Certified PAWS Assistance Dog (AD) who lives with the trainer and participates in presentations, etc.... She must go through the same training that PAWS requires of all AD's.

Cindylou is an amazing (10 month old when this was taken) Black Lab in this photo! She is one smart Girl and working very hard at becoming Sue's Assistance Dog.

This day we were at TSC and our trainer had us place our pups in a Down/Stay (in the dog food aisle...oh me!). We were instructed to move out of their visual view for about 5 minutes.

They did beautifully! So, so smart...and look at all those bags of dog food! We returned, released our dog, and called to "Come".

Aren't they amazing?! (and of course they received wonderful treats! : )

Hi. If anyone could help me by providing some chassis designs, that would be great. I have overused the traditional chassis method (Pictured Above) and am looking for some new designs. Thanks in advance!

The Governor’s Welfare Employment Committee announced the winners of its 2017 TANF Employment Awards of Excellence as it recognized 39 employers in Delaware who hire, train and maintain positive working relationships with employees who receive Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) benefits, and 47 TANF clients who have succeeded in the workplace despite the challenges they have faced.

The nominees in both the employee and employer categories were honored at a breakfast ceremony April 19 at Dover Downs Hotel & Casino.

The employee winners of the 2017 TANF Employment Awards of Excellence are:

•New Castle County: Gienavive Johnson

“We all have an attachment to work and to the dignity that comes with a job,” DHSS Secretary Dr. Kara Odom Walker said. “The working parents we honored found jobs through our TANF program, and they are raising their families, demonstrating initiative and excelling in their workplaces. That path to self-sufficiency was borne out of perseverance. That is a powerful message of success, and I’m so proud of the work we’re doing together.”

“The TANF program is yet another valuable resource the State of Delaware is making available to some of our most deserving residents,” said Labor Secretary Dr. Patrice Gilliam-Johnson. “We are pleased to be recognizing those employers who help make these opportunities a reality and the employees who continue to serve as stellar examples of the program’s success.”

A total of 47 employees – 19 from New Castle County, 16 from Sussex County and 12 from Kent County – were nominated, along with 39 employers. The employers nominated were:

TANF is a time-limited program, and work-mandatory clients can receive TANF benefits for a maximum of 36 total months in their lifetimes. To get a monthly TANF benefit, most clients must work or participate in work-related activities for 20 to 40 hours per week, depending on the number of parents in the household and the age of their children.

In Fiscal Year 2016, employment and training vendors served 1,704 clients in Delaware, with 329 clients earning full-time jobs and 408 earning part-time jobs.

Legal Assistance Centre (LAC) has announced plans to take legal action against the municipality of Otavi for the failure to provide adequate water and sanitisation facilities to the community.

During consultations throughout 2009, LAC staff witnessed community toilets in a deplorable state. Water in the toilets, built to service the more than 4,000 residents, has been turned off. Instead, people have used the entrance and surrounding area of the toilets to relieve themselves, leaving a pool of human waste surrounding the area.

Martha Lukas, a resident of Otavi’s informal settlement, says the sanitisation situation gets worse during the rain season. “The rubbish flows with the water in our yards,” Lukas says. “As a result we get diseases like diarrhoea, malaria and cholera.”

She adds that those affected are mostly elderly people and children.

Cornelia Ubu-gaes, a resident of the Bliekies Drop settlement for 14 years, reports that that the sanitization situation became unbearable about five years ago and the toilets regularly have maintenance problems.

She further stresses that, “Some water points were built close to the toilets, therefore contaminating the drinking water.”

Norman Tjombe, director of the LAC, says that all Namibians should have access to fair public services, the right to proper housing and the right to safe living conditions.

“This is really about fundamental freedoms – the right to dignity, the right to safety and security and the right to non-discrimination, based on socio-economic status,” Tjombe states.

LAC is among a growing number of organisations around the world who are urging the international community to recognize that access to better sanitisation is a fundamental human need and, therefore, a basic human right.

Of additional concern for the Otavi Informal Settlement residents are the six water points for the community.

Ubu-gaes points out that many people in Otavi’s informal settlement are impoverished and unable to afford the price of water. The water system has no provision for these residents that can’t afford water at all.

During an LAC collaborative documentation project with Stanford Law, researchers learned of children in Otavi’s informal settlement, as young as six or seven, who regularly must beg for water from other settlement residents. The children do not go to school but instead spend each day at the rubbish dump site looking for food.

In November 2007, the Ombudsman carried out an investigation on the health hazard conditions in and around the toilets at the informal settlement in Otavi. A report was then submitted to the Ministry of Regional, Local Government and Housing, the regional health directorate in Otjiwarongo and the Otavi village council.

In 2008, a reassessment was done by the team of the Ombudsman. The obligation of the village council was not fulfilled, the Ombudsman’s report stated.

The application will be finalised in December 2009 and filed in January 2010.
