Active Assignment Weekly - "One letter only"
January 24 - 30
This week I would like you to find or create an image of a single letter.
You can find it in a shape of nature or create the shape of the letter with something manmade.
Restrictions: Only one single letter. You can include different objects but only one letter.
Dare: Try to "find" the letter instead of "create" it.
WIT: This is apparently some type of styrofoam float used in various types of marine exploration. Saw it on an engineer's table. Blurred the areas around the "O", and did some cropping.

(Top Left): A revolving canvas wall that allows the painter to turn the canvas to the exterior so the chef can see it.
(Top Right): Increases natural light for painter but also allows the chef to look down into painters space when he is using stairs (see other diagram) or on his balcony. Also enhances circulation and thus smells coming from the chef's kitchen.
(Bottom Left): A fan/vent leading from the chef's kitchen into the painters space so the painter can smell when the chef is cooking.
(Bottom Right): Painting is projected (or somehow reflected) onto a glass ceiling so each stroke is visible to the chef when looking at the ceiling. He could essentially watch the painter in progress by looking at the ceiling.
Our second assignment was to recreate two different sabattier effects in the darkroom. One standard and one controlled.
This process involves exposing the print to additional light after developing but before the stop/fix wash.
Next assignment: chemical/organic toning

Borrowed Kitchen #1 - Early morning so not much light from the window. Might be a little too bright - the cabinet looks a little blown.

So for these shoot, i had to take for both last week and this week assignment. And for my project i decided to follow up with a continuation of a another shoot i had done a few years ago and that is shooting construction sites. I choose construction site because to me this is an everyday thing, however to many others it brand new. The way i shot these images were done in different angles and seeing the inside of different building before any of the walls were added. I went around and saw three different sites and worked there getting my images. Most of these are done in a abstract way because i want to show a different more artistic side to something most people take for granted. During my shoot the sun was going down so i had to play with the little light source i had to play with my ISO and Aperture as well. I was a bit of a challenge mainly because i wasnt able to take my camera inside these areas, so i had to wait until work shift was over and come in the night to get my images. I took over 119 photos but chose these 23 because these were my best for both week, plus i had a few over 13 images from some other days i had taken images but i felt these here were my stronger ones.

This set of photo was taken this morning during a Craft fair which we attended as vendors selling all things related to patchwork. Most shot were done by me but I also asked my son to take a few shot so I could see his point of view and it turned out really funny.
Taken for Assignment 52 -- Positive /negative space -- of a sculpture by my neighbor, Margot McMahon.
Assignment week 4 patterns: I spent tons of time looking at patterns and snapping shots. I got some funny looks as I pulled over to take pics of inane subjects!! I even took some shots at the courthouse. I have always wanted to take this shot. There are rows and rows of buses at this school. I took many shots and know this needs improvement. And that darn pole!! In my way!!

It looks like some little insect made a happy meal out of this little magnolia bud. This shrub is a magnolia shrub, and it is covered with buds that have developed and will emerge as next season’s flowers when the conditions are right. There are buds located up and down the branches, and, other than the fully emerged buds at the tips of the branches, the rest of them appear to be well protected within a bark covering. This probably serves to preserve the plant’s reproductive capacity in the event it is cut or damaged by weather or other environmental events. One can also observe lenticels (the white dots on the branch in the forefront of this picture) that provide the shrub with passive transpiration. In the spring, the leaves of this shrub will grow under the buds. Each leaf is responsible for nourishing its own bud, and each bud contains meristem cells within it. Thus, if the plant is cut, damaged or broken, the hormonal signals from meristem cells in the bud formerly above it (“telling” the bud not to grow) will thereby necessarily cease to flow downward, and this remaining bud will shoot up, forming a new leaf with a new bud. As we learned in class, this is an example of a simple morphology with a complex function. I have always wondered why buds appear on plants in the fall – the fact that it is the plant’s system for getting its reproductive apparatus set up for the following year is pretty interesting; the plant is thereby spreading out the use of its energy for reproductive purposes over time, as well as increasing its reproductive efficiency by ensuring that everything is ready to go once the conditions are just right.
