Assignment week 4 patterns: I spent tons of time looking at patterns and snapping shots. I got some funny looks as I pulled over to take pics of inane subjects!! I even took some shots at the courthouse. I have always wanted to take this shot. There are rows and rows of buses at this school. I took many shots and know this needs improvement. And that darn pole!! In my way!!

Using horizontal leading lines to the subject, adds emphasis to the model. I've postprocessed photo by adding a black and white filter (except for the green fence). There is a big contrast between the bright and dark shadows, as well as, the subject is placed according to the rule of thirds.
So for these shoot, i had to take for both last week and this week assignment. And for my project i decided to follow up with a continuation of a another shoot i had done a few years ago and that is shooting construction sites. I choose construction site because to me this is an everyday thing, however to many others it brand new. The way i shot these images were done in different angles and seeing the inside of different building before any of the walls were added. I went around and saw three different sites and worked there getting my images. Most of these are done in a abstract way because i want to show a different more artistic side to something most people take for granted. During my shoot the sun was going down so i had to play with the little light source i had to play with my ISO and Aperture as well. I was a bit of a challenge mainly because i wasnt able to take my camera inside these areas, so i had to wait until work shift was over and come in the night to get my images. I took over 119 photos but chose these 23 because these were my best for both week, plus i had a few over 13 images from some other days i had taken images but i felt these here were my stronger ones.
my assignment to you:
tell us what it is you do to cheer yourself up when you are crying.
be it eating chocolate, watching a romantic french film or calling a friend.
for me it is taking a picture of myself and seeing how much i can make it look like i was crying, but not really.
its like i trick myself into thinking im not really that upset and if someone saw me they wouldn't know how sad i was.
TRICKERY.
Assignment #44
Make a "LTLYM assignment".
We sometimes get suggestions for assignments, but since that's the part of the project that we like to do we don't put them on the site. But making up your own assignments and doing them is really what its all about. So for this assignment we are asking you to think up a LTLYM assignment and then to make one example of how it should be done. Stay within the realm of the website: assignments that bring people together and give them a new way to feel something.
Again, i did feel this assignment was the hardest one for me mainly because i really wasnt able to follow an artist work because i felt i didnt have the right scenery to do it and minaly because for me it didnt feel right. But i tried working with what I had in the end to make it work. So for this image what i did was put my camera in ground level at an angle, and titled the lends part upwards to catch the house lights above. The reason I did this was because i wanted to play with the perspective of how a miniature seized view. Again working outside with the iso in the night proved to be a challenge but i feel like this time it came out a bit okay.
Our second assignment was to recreate two different sabattier effects in the darkroom. One standard and one controlled.
This process involves exposing the print to additional light after developing but before the stop/fix wash.
Next assignment: chemical/organic toning

I took it yesterday as soon as I saw her photo, but didn't have my camera cord with me.
The original photo was taken by Imogen Cunningham and it was titled "Magnolia Blossom". The flower in this picture is neither a magnolia nor is it real but it is still a copy of the original work taken in 1925. Cunningham was an American photographer who was known for her very detailed and sharply-focused photographs.

The purpose of this shot was to show how our hands are used to show emotion through communication with letter writing. I'm a personal fan of Black & White shots, and felt this shot was much more powerful without color. The original was cropped to show less of the paper to the right and push more focus on the hand itself. I used a gaussian blur to remove more of the clarity of the paper. I then used the level slider tool to adjust the light/dark balance in the lighting which also brought the inside of the hand from black to viewable. Photoshop was used to crop the image as well as the blur and level adjustments.
I think that the more I look at this, the more I would have rathered the written text to be in cursive writing, making it look more elegant.
