The 139th Assembly of the IPU will take place in Geneva, Switzerland, on 12 - 18 october 2018: Executive Committee
Lower School students danced and sang during a special music assembly in the Multi-Purpose Room on December 3. Jeff Golub, father of Ross students Chris and Matthew, brought his band and introduced them as "Chris & Matthew Golub's Ross School Band." They played many favorites including “Super Freak,” where they changed the words to “Super Teach” and used names of Ross School teachers.
May 15, 2019 - Frank Lloyd Wright's Wyoming Valley School. 6306 WI-23 Trunk, Spring Green, Wisconsin.
"In 1956 Wright donated two acres of land and a design for a small elementary school to the Wyoming Valley School District near Spring Green, WI.
The Wyoming Valley School was to be built in honor of his mother, Anna Lloyd Jones, a kindergarten teacher who had fostered Wright’s lifelong love of learning. The simple concrete-block structure was accented by a flat raised roof with clerestory windows, Wright’s signature Taliesin red floors, and large fireplaces at the center of the foyer and assembly room. In 1958 the school opened its doors to 46 students in grades 1-8. Though the building stood empty from 1990-2010, it was reopened in 2011 as a non-profit arts and cultural center. The Wyoming Valley School Cultural Arts Center continues to foster Wright’s original educational mission with active programming, workshops, exhibits, performances and lectures." Directly behind this living log, the Vehicle Assembly Building of N.A.S.A loomed, but that was not what caught my eye as I drove up. The couple in the car ahead of me seemed to be taking shots of something, so I pulled up to take a look. I wonder if they even saw this!
From a distance, this alligator looked like a big, grey log at the edge of the canal. It didn't move, and from my vantage point, I wasn't sure if I was wasting my time taking pics of a fallen palm tree! (If you look at the scales, it really IS similar to a palm!) I kept shooting, anyway, having a feeling that this was no tree! It was the largest of the gators I saw that day, and I'd say by the looks of him, he was close to 12 feet long if he was an inch! I felt quite safe, as I was a long ways away from him and far from his reach, thank God!
When I began processing these pics, I wasn't sure if the gator was alive. It was so much lighter than some of the others I'd seen, and showed no sign of movement whatsoever. It was incredibly "fat" compared to the others I'd encountered, and I assumed that it was an old, very large male. They average 9-12 feet in length, although there have been 14 footers recorded, and a 13-14 foot gator resides in Lake Woodruff. He must've been close to that size. I was glad he was far away! Thank goodness for zoom!
I realized he was, indeed, very much alive after I processed the shots I took and saw his eye open in one and closed in another. He was most likely sunning to digest something, and getting ready for the next meal! He looked quite well fed!
