The kit and its assembly:
The exotic Fokker D.XXIII falls perfectly into the time frame for the Battle of Britain Group Build at whatifmodelers - but building it OOB as a prototype in Dutch colors (even though this looks interesting) was just too easy. I wanted to spin the idea further, so I decided to implant a more powerful engine.
My choice fell in the Hispano Suiza 12Y, a very common engine at that time, and I found a good donation nose in a KP Avia B.35, because it carries a chin radiator. While the new part's height was fine the intersection to the frest of the Fokker fuselage needed some serious body work.
Since the same engine was to be housed in the rear, too, I lengthened the tail section by 3mm and added bumps for the larger cylinder banks, as well as additional carburtor intakes and flaps for the radiator exhausts. Flame dampers were scartched from IP profiles and sheet. The propellers are also new and slightly bigger than the OOB parts - the front prop comes from a Matchbox Brester Buffalo, with a Ju 188 spinner, and the rear propeller comes from a Percival Provost.
The only other change is the armament. The Oerlikon cannons were made with hollow steel needles, plus flame dampers made from styrene tube.

Looks exceeding weird; seems remarkably practical. Those bendable joints are tough, but a little squeaky.

Held on an evening after classes have ended, Senior Assembly is a traditional ceremony in which the Amherst College faculty honors the graduating students. After a procession into Johnson Chapel, the Dean of the Faculty opens the ceremony, and the President awards prizes and honorary class memberships.
