This is a very old structure near the Nile called a Nilometer that was used to measure river Nile's water level. What you see is the top of the shaft, and below it is deep well-like cavity. This is on Roda Island, which is an island in between the Nile itself, in Cairo.
Model House, commissie, 2013

Model House testifies to a fascination with traditional suburban housing forms. The typical Flemish farmhouse-style cottages (‘fermettes’) have inundated our landscape to the point where they are now reviled by most architects and urban planners. Gijs Van Vaerenbergh, however, do not see them as merely a problem, but rather explore them as remarkable phenomena and view them from new angles – literally.
The farmhouse is dissected in a refined manner: a rough play of lines gives shape to strange openings that seem to appear at random. The plot is as it were turned inside out, rendering obsolete the traditional division between inside and outside, private and public, creating a hybrid collage of foreground and background.
Gijs Van Vaerenbergh in this way deals with the current theme of the demolition of obsolete farmhouses, and pays particular attention to the language of the transformation itself: how can it be used to change our perception of the typical farmhouse-style cottage?

The Dr. Bhau Daji Lad Museum hosted a puppet show that explored the urban history of Mumbai through the stories of its citizens and the development of trade, migration, opportunity, and cosmopolitanism. Professional puppeteer Meena Naik narrated the story of Mumbai’s urban development through the lens of a traveling trader, then addressed environmental issues and their effects on contemporary Mumbai.

As I headed to a picnic in Fælledparken, I spotted this bit of artistic bricklaying on one of the buildings around Østerbro Stadium. I think it was supposed to represent athletes in a parade
