The Bucknill Committee, which had been set up to investigate the loss of major warships produced a report which said that the lack of diesel backup power sources was a major design failure which contributed to the loss. Ark Royal depended on electricity for much of her operation, and once the boilers and steam-driven dynamos were knocked out, the loss of power made damage control difficult. The committee recommended the design of the bulkheads and boiler intakes be improved to decrease the risk of widespread flooding in boiler rooms and machine spaces.

This was the 'Noah's Ark' cake I made during the workshop with Debbie Brown, here in Melbourne. At the workshop, we were only able to make 2 pairs of animals (elephant and pig). Then when I got home that night, I added the other animals. It took me about 5 hours to add another 8 pairs, that I was up til the early morning hours. I'm mad, I know, haha, but I had fun making them I didn't even realise it was already morning. I was proud of this cake, hehe, as I was able to model the animals from refering to the photo.
I learned a lot during the workshop. I didn't realise it actually takes a long time to cover the cake - the boards/wooden planks were individual pieces of fondant stuck on the cake. I love this technique - can't wait to make a pirate ship, haha.
Noah's Ark cake for Noah. I'm rather pleased with how it turned out as I wasn't relishing making lots of little animals!
