The Ark is a mile-long spacecraft on a 100-year mission to colonise a distant planet. The rotating centrifuge provides artificial gravity to support a biome representing all the world’s ecosystems.
The model has approx. 10,000 LEGO elements supported on a custom steel frame and uses LED lights and Power Functions motors to turn the centrifuge. The biome models were built by Rogue Bantha and Inthert; and the circuitry for the reactor lights was provided by Rick Fornalski. Officially a SHIP at 116 studs high and about 110 studs long, as well a MASSIVE investment in parts and time; the project took over a year to design and build. Look back through the album to see some of the stages in constructing this monster.
Because the Corona Virus cancelled most LEGO shows this year the Ark has yet to be seen by a wide audience. Hence, I’ll be presenting an AFOL MOC Talk as part of Brickcon on the 4th October at 8am PDT / 4pm BST where I’ll show the model in detail and switch the motors on to spin the centrifuge; as well as talking about a few other recent builds. Go to brickcon.org to buy tickets. Hopefully in 2021 the Ark will set sail to select LEGO shows in the UK.

Ark, also called Ark Of The Law, in Jewish synagogues, an ornate cabinet that enshrines the sacred Torah scrolls used for public worship. Because it symbolizes the Holy of Holies of the ancient Temple of Jerusalem, it is the holiest place in the synagogue and the focal point of prayer. The ark is reached by steps and is commonly placed so that the worshiper facing it also “faces Jerusalem.” When the scrolls are removed for religious services, the congregation stands, and a solemn ceremony accompanies the opening and closing of the ark doors.

I am pretty much done with the current round of building. The top and bottom radiators are on, the lights are working and all the detailing is attached to the central section. Next step is to cover that big metal rod sticking out the back with the reactor and engine assembly.

My first impression when I was trying to figure out a title was "it looks like the bow of an ark". OK, so it would be upside down if that were the case, but there's something about the large vertical element that reminds me of a ship. Maybe it's all of the recent doomsday talk and some memories of the 2012 movie :)
The inside of the cathedral is just as cool as the outside. I'm waiting for my LensBaby Sweet 35 first before exploring the interior as there are some ideas I have in mind with that lens.
All comments, critiques and feedback both positive and negative welcome.

HMS Ark Royal was the flagship of the British Royal Navy serving her country for 25yrs. She was built at the former Swan Hunter ship yard on the river Tyne in the late 70's and launched in 1981. This is the last photo I took of her as she leaves the river Tyne for the final time before being decommissioned. She was later towed to a Turkish dismantling yard and turned into £3million worth of scrap.
I had seen a shot of this boat and track in Black & White Photography magazine before going to Dungeness and it seemed to summarise the area - a decaying boat and random ironwork (although this track leads across the shingle and to the sea and was probably used to help winch craft from the shore).
This shot is taken in full sunset light - the sort of blood warmth of colour that lasts for perhaps ten minutes, but it's a compromise. I wanted to be lower and to include more of the track at a different angle but that would have meant my shadow being in shot. Behind me are two sheds and the sun set between them, and I'm perched on old ropes, pots and a few tyres so it's hand-held.
