Kolkata is the last part of India with this colonial remnant in use, although bicycle rickshaws still exist elsewhere. Here, hand-pulled rickshaws weave through traffic next to more-typical auto rickshaws. The government has declared the practice inhumane and no longer issues licenses, which is of great concern to the thousands of migrant workers who depend on pulling rickshaws for their livelihoods.

A typical Rajasthani snack, mirchi bada are big chilis stuffed with potatoes. Really delicious, and this vendor and his loyal customers were particularly good salesmen. I will say I also tried it at a more famous place in Jodhpur, more of a restaurant than a street stall, with huge crowds, and well, that one was better. But this was more atmospheric, deep in the twisty old-city alleys....

Spiti Valley is a Himalayan region of dry desert mountains and a few turquoise rivers. Supposedly it can be quite green during the very brief summer.

I was a bit hesitant to post a photo this intimate here on flickr. But, my desire has been to document my work with with the Kodak Pony - so it seemed appropriate to present a tender family moment captured with what essentially was intended to be a "family camera."
My young son has a yet undiagnosed condition which causes chronic anemia. Recently he has undergone several rounds of imaging to look at his GI tract in hopes of pinpointing the underlying causes. These "scans" have been somewhat frightening for him. Here, during a brief break in imaging, he reached out to me for comfort and reassurance. I happen to have my pony with me so I snapped a photo before moving on to hold his hand and tell him that everything was going to be ok.

A mini-salon in Somerville. At the suggestion of Utatan BonnieB, a bunch of artists met up in Somerville to chat, eat volcano brownies, and compare notes on how we do what we do. A good time all around.

A section of the Craven Gap Trail, situated on a ridge. This spot in particular had a nostalgic feel about it.

We ordered this crab dish at the end...which looked like the crabs head with a whole lot of mud in it... everything else we ordered was amazing but we really struck out there! Only thing that could wash it down was sake! (yay)

Test roll with my Konica 1 rangefinder made in occupied Japan (1948).

Made in Occupied Japan (MIOJ)
The “Made in Occupied Japan” identification mark is better known to most camera collectors as MIOJ. References to this mark appear often in camera literature dealing with the history of post-war Japan. Aside from the company name and the camera’s serial number, the MIOJ mark was the first post-war foreign mark to appear on early Canon cameras, lenses, and accessories. Early in 1947 the Supreme Commander for the Allied Powers (SCAP) issued Decree 1535, stating that all export items must be identified with an engraving “Made in Occupied Japan.” The first MIOJ-marked base plates appeared on early cameras released after September 9, 1947.
