Stony Brook State Park is definitely a people park, and the people are generally respectful of the park and of each other. The gorge trail is a popular attraction. It is officially one-way now to promote social distancing. I saw only a few people walking against the flow.
This stretch is one of the prettiest in the park. I have taken many photographs here over the decades.

An environmental self portrait with the first real camera that I used and learned with. It is my Dad’s Argus C3 which he carried when he served in the Navy during WWII. He made money by selling images to fellow seaman. With this camera, he shot images of the Bikini nuclear bomb tests. I remember seeing those images when I was a young girl, but sadly they got lost during a move.
Thank you so much for your views, comments and favs. I really do appreciate every one!

It’s impossible to understate Tony Vaccaro’s contribution to the 20th century, be it in his role as World War II combatant and documentarian, or his post-war work in fashion and portrait photography. He is a man who, in his own words, “went after the best”, and for the ...

At first glance it doesn't look so bad, does it? especially the colour rendering.
But if you look closer ... oy vey. Nothing is really sharp, although this was shot stopped down, focused on infinity. It's not sharp, but is also is not not sharp - not the kind of "not sharp" you get if the focusing is off. Just a kind of desultory attempt at sharpness that is not quite followed through. Like when I resolve to clean up my garden but then give up and collapse in a deck chair on the terrace exhausted, having managed no more than pulling out only a few of the biggest weeds.
In those days, people who owned a Brick would be using black and white film and ordering small prints. That's what the camera was designed for.
So, things being what they are, there is no point in kvetching. The specific, er, features of the Brick and its glass should be used to achieve an artistic aim.
Next test will be with slow black&white film.

Built from 1897-1899 in the centre of an art nouveau artists' colony, though this church does not show any art nouveau design elements. It was built on Russian soil that had been imported from Russia by train so that Tsar Nikolai II, who had married a Darmstadt princess, Queen Victoria's grand daughter Alix, could worship in style when he came to visit his wife's family.
The squinty finder, compounded by the fact that it is partially obscured by a thick rubber band that keeps the camera back from popping open, makes image composition rather tricky. I should have aimed further down and more to the left.

Argus C3 with Cintar 50 f/3.5. the serial number is 904046. That, and certain external features, allow me to identify this as one of the first post-war production runs, likely produced in late 1946.--> see here
Slightly battered, but as far as I can see, in good working order.
The exterior is OK, apart from some chipped paint, some peeling and one missing bit of leatherette (the back looks better).
The lens is free of scratches and does not show any sign of fungus.
The leaf shutter fires. I haven't measured the times, but they seem OK.
The rangefinder looks reasonably accurate at close range, but is completely off at infinity. That however is not a problem for me. I'm not going to mess around trying to calibrate the rangefinder. To do that, you can access calibrating screws by opening a he circular lid on the top of the camera body.
The shutter cocking handle appears to have been rotated by 180 degrees - it should be pointing outwards rather than towards the lens. The shutter is cocked by swivelling the little handle counter-clockwise by 45 degrees.
The clip that keeps the back closed seems to have gone soft with age. Therefore the back can pop open at any time. I will just have to paste it closed with sellotape when the camera is loaded with film.

About three weeks ago in Durand Eastman Park on a beautiful day. I parked by the start of the yellow ski trail, followed it all the way around then down the west side of Durand Lake and over the ridge to the start of the Eastman Lake trail. I followed it along the east side of Eastman Lake then back along the west side to return to the car in the deepening dusk.

I picked up an Argus C3 and Argus C-3 Match-Matic recently, to join the C33. I did a bit of a CLA on the C3, so it operates adequately. Need to run some fresh film through it now.
Affectionally (and perhaps, not so affectionally) called "The Brick" because of its shape, and weight. When I saw it, I thought it looked kind of Steam Punkish, and I snatched it up right away. It's heavy enough to weigh a body down in a lake, IYKWIM. lol I believe that this is the Argus C3, which began to be manufactured in 1939, in Ann Arbor Michigan. More info can be found here. camerapedia.wikia.com/wiki/Argus_C3
There weren't actually this many flowers in the bush. It's a multiple exposure. At least double, maybe more. I don't remember.
Multiple exposures are very easy to do with an Argus. Simply cock the shutter and neglect (or forget) to advance the film. Because it's so easy to do, it is frequently done inadvertently.
This one was intentional, though.

A prayer for justice and peace.
I find it striking that when the Hebrew prophets spoke of justice and peace they were not talking about "law and order" but about justice for the oppressed and peace from the oppressor. What goes around comes around.
I took the photograph in my neighbor's front yard. I swapped the 50mm lens to a different Argus C3 body and took a series of test shots with the rangefinder carefully aligned. Methinks problem is with the lens rather than the rangefinder on the original body.

The Seabreeze Water Tower has been a camera magnet for me over the years. It was a big, bright, red and white checkerboard when the folks moved us into the Rochester area in 1958. Now it is a quite lovely, and much less obtrusive, sky blue. But I really liked the checkerboard.
The Argus and I went for a late afternoon walk around the neighborhood. It was a lovely time for light and shadow.

A while back, @timebombtimmy (dA) / @eighty4grain (IG) gave me some long-expired Polaroid PolaPan instant black and white slide film to shoot for a commemorative project he is working on. I shot this roll in a variety of places last summer.
Tim developed the roll and sent me back the slide. It seems the chemicals had dried out somewhat, leaving assorted interesting artifacts on the slides.

Why do I keep taking pictures of places I have photographed before?
Because they are never quite the same.
The Finger Lakes Trail fingerlakestrail.org/ runs east-west through the southern Finger Lakes region in New York. The Letchworth branch of about 23 miles runs north-south along the east side of the gorge. The north end of the branch enters the park from the highway just west of the river, quickly crossing to the east side via a foot bridge. I did an up-and-back hike a week ago from the little dam to the big dam.
