Look who joined the family last night. I've been told she doesn't work quite right, but let's be honest. Yellow and orange leatherette is tough to resist.

Argus test with slow black & white film
Contrast is good, sharpness as mushy as ever, so one should not pay attention to the sharpness (which nobody would have seen on the tiny prints of the time)

Argus C3 - Day 77 of 365 Photo Challenge - March 18, 2023
My dad's when he was in the Air Force in 1956
Down the path and into the woods.
Back in October I loaded a roll of long-expired Kodak Gold 200 in the old-but-not-expired Argus C3 with the 35mm lens and went for a walk through the neighborhood and down to Durand Eastman Park. The colors came out intense, but it was that sort of day.

Then I was off the trail and back at Chuck's and Suzy's house, figuring out what to do next. Suzy took my out to one of the local parks.
(It appears that my Cinestill developer had had too many rolls of film developed with it. Both this and the previous roll were significantly under-developed. Cinestill one-step developer has its advantages, but I plan to go back to my Kodak D76.)

Shot on the 22nd of Argust, 2022
It took me three years, but I am beginning to get the hang of this camera. No double exposures, no blank shots, no ripped film, no out-of-focus shots this time.

Last from the Lower Falls area, after I walked up and around and back down. Just a little further and a right turn would take me across the footbridge. The rock wall required a photograph. I think I mostly got it right.
Letchworth State Park.
There is a pull-off at the head of the trail along the east rim and down to the Lower Falls footbridge. I followed the trail down to and across the footbridge, up and around the short loop on the west rim, then back down and up the car.

Getting to the far hilltop would have been a difficult slog even with the sturdy snowshoes. The undergrowth was thick.

I arrived early in the day, just before 9:00am, because this place gets crazy packed with hikers. I found a spot in the parking lot easily, but when I returned to my car at 11am, there was a line of cars waiting to get in.

A couple weeks ago I walked over to Durand Eastman Park for my morning reading and prayers. I put the Argus C3 in the daypack. The sun was filtering through the trees most delightfully. I took several photographs around me from where I was sitting as the light changed, and one more straight up.
Last of the set.

Milady and I drove down to Letchworth State Park a week or so ago. Having been otherwise occupied with an infected disk last year, this was our first time there since 2018.
While she sat and read in the car (her hip keeps her from distance walking) I climbed the endless staircase from the Middle Falls area to the top of the Upper Falls.
One of my photography mentors advised taking both horizontal and vertical views from the same location. One gets surprisingly different photographs.

Kids at Unzen Hot Springs in Kyushu Prefecture, Japan where we had a couple of days R&R. It's up in the mountains not too far from Sasebo.
This camera is also called "The Brick".
My one is a fully functional camera with the corresponding flash and working lightmeter.
This model was produced from 1958 to 1966.
In 2002 in the film "Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets" also a Matchmatic was used.

#trees,
This is a very old image scanned from an Ektachrome slide. I took this photo in 1959 in Verdunville, West Virginia. I remember a hazy hollow with a lot of coal smoke, much poverty and a great dependence on the coal mines. This is in the Appalachian mountains in the heart of coal mining country.
I processed this as a monochrome image and gave it a vintage look. I then blended it with a color layer and adjusted the opacity to allow just a tiny bit of color to show through. This image may have no appeal to any one else, but to me it represents what I remember about that part of the country 50 years ago.
This photo was taken with my old Argus C3, a 35mm rangefinder camera that was quite popular in those days.
I got to hike Stony Brook State Park one day in September. I followed the gorge trail up and the west rim back. It is a place I have hiked and photographed many times over the decades - my parents used to take us camping there as kids.
