Arena
North Dakota
A true ghost town with zero population in the great empty plains.
No need to go to some crowded beach to supposedly get away from it all. Experience true solitude where time is irrelevant and the only sound is the wind in the grass.
This may sound over dramatic, but I bet most people can't stand to be alone in such a place for more than a couple of hours.
[...] In the arena of human life the honors and rewards fall to those who show their good qualities in action [...]

"...Lecce’s Roman Amphitheatre. An enormous circular structure that seated thousands of patrons. Excavated in 1938, during construction of an Italian bank - the theatre takes up nearly half of the piazza, while the other half remains buried under surrounding coffee shops and boutiques. In its heyday, Lecce’s Amphitheatre was the most important Roman monument of the city. Built under Hadrian's empire, the amphitheatre dates back to the 2nd century when Lecce thrived under its Roman name of “Lupiae”..."

The image shows the arena from a direction that is rather unusual for an overall view, as you can not dodge far enough at this point. The photo had to be taken from a very close distance. Even the 14 mm wide angle was not sufficient to cover the whole scene with a single shot, so I combined three photos into a panorama. Unfortunately, the panorama showed severe distortions, which, however, could be largely eliminated with the help of photoshop. The lens flare was added as a final touch, emphasizing the very weak lens flare of Nikon's 14mm lens.
The arena is a Roman amphitheatre located in Pula, Croatia. It was constructed in the first century C.E. and is the best preserved ancient monument in Croatia. First built in timber during the reign of Augustus (2–14 AD), it was replaced by a small stone amphitheatre during the reign of emperor Claudius. In 79 AD it was enlarged to accommodate gladiator fights by Vespasian and to be completed in 81 AD under emperor Titus.

The Arena di Verona is a Roman amphitheatre in Piazza Bra in Verona, Italy built in the first century. It is still in use today and is internationally famous for the large-scale opera performances given there. It is one of the best preserved ancient structures of its kind. In ancient times, nearly 30,000 people was the housing capacity of the Arena. Nowadays, for security reasons, the maximum attendance is 15,000 people.
The building itself was built in AD 30 on a site which was then beyond the city walls. The ludi (shows and games) staged there were so famous that spectators came from many other places, often far away, to witness them.
The round façade of the building was originally composed of white and pink limestone from Valpolicella, but after a major earthquake in 1117, which almost completely destroyed the structure's outer ring, except for the so-called "ala" (wing), the stone was quarried for re-use in other buildings.
At the Plaça d'Espanya stands the 'Arenas de Barcelona'. The bullring in neo-Mudéjar style brickwork was built in 1900. The arena has now been turned into a modern domed shopping center. Its roof is accessible to the public and offers great 360 degree views over the city.
Hoy comienzan las vacaciones para mi. El tiempo pasa demasiado deprisa asi que aprovecharemos desde el primer dia para coger la camara que tenía olvidada. ¡Iremos subiendo fotillos!
Dragons Arena - Dress Rehearsal
The Dragons Arena is a city theater / opera in which dragons play part of the roles.
The MOC presents a quarter of the Arena building with a main entrance and an honorary lodge.
We are currently seeing a rehearsal of the scene where the evil dragon attacks the castle and the village.
Unfortunately, something went wrong and the main actor accidentally breathed too much fire and set the scenography on fire.
(Was the dragon full of Mexican food? Or was it a malicious witch involved in it?)
Fortunately, the arena is secured by a team of firemen.
Above the arena there are spectator platforms and below it there are dragon quarters.
In one of them you can find a young dragon mom with dragon baby.
There is a ticket office in front of the entrance and you can get there a toy dragon as a gift.
Above the arena there is a tower, on top of which there is a stop of the dragon express (the passenger is already waiting for the next flight).
