"In many cases your imagination is much more effective than what can be shown. It primes you to know something is about to happen - the anticipation and anxiety is worse than what ends up happening."

The other day, I was wandering the walkways and i-beams, way up high in our local arena before game time.
Arena di Verona, is a Roman amphitheatre in Piazza Bra in Verona, built in the first century. It is still in use today and is internationally famous for the large-scale opera performances given there.
It is one of the best preserved ancient structures of its kind.
In ancient times, the arena's capacity was nearly 30,000 people, now because the stage for concerts and opera performances decreases the available places to a maximum of 15,000.
It will be used for the closing ceremony for the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan and Cortina d'Ampezzo.

The Arena Tower, also known as the Baltimore Tower was first proposed in 2006. Work started on the tower in 2013 and was completed last year in 2017. It is a residential tower consisting of 387 apartments. It's architectural height is 149.1 m and was designed by the architects - Skidmore, Owings & Merrill LLP. If you have money to spare there is a 3 bedroom apartment currently available for £1,440,000. The upper floor balconies are a bit special... if you don't mind glass floors!

After every 5 or 6 riders these guys came out and smoothed the dirt out all over the arena.
Have a great new week.

This is the church (St. John's Lutheran) in the ghost town of Arena, North Dakota. That is not keystoning you see, rather the front of the church is collapsing into the body of the church. I wonder how long it will remain standing.

Point Arena Light is a lighthouse in Mendocino County, California, two miles north of Point Arena. It is approximately 130 miles north of San Francisco, in the Fort Point Group of lighthouses. The lighthouse features a small museum and gift shop. Guided tours of the light station as well as self-guided tours of the grounds are available daily. The original lighthouse, built in 1876, was heavily damaged by the San Francisco earthquake in 1906, and had to be demolished. It was subsequently rebuilt, and the current lighthouse began operation in 1908. It is 115 feet tall, and was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1991.

I posted this image in black and white in the first series from North Dakota and a friend asked me what it would look like in colour. I liked it, which got me looking for others I could post in colour and that led to this second little series. So, thanks to that friend!

Rooftopping anyone? I'm very excited to be able to share this and a few other shots in the nearest future from this outstanding location on the North side of the River walk. Some of you might recognized it already but for those of you who didn't these are the views from Merchandise Mart. This was once the largest building in the world. And it was designed to be the city within the city. It even had its own postal code. Among others, this is still the home of the Motorola cellphones design team. Just by pure luck I was able to collaborate with one of the designers and gain the access to the rooftop and be able to whiteness these beautiful vistas of the downtown Chicago. What do you think?
