A couple of shots from a very nice hike around the Yamnuska area.

sign at the Sparks Marina - Sparks, Nevada...adjacent and just East of Reno

.

The rock formations in this area have fascinated me. I've been intending to stop here on one of the trips.

Sunday when Mike and I stopped at the west bound area the weather was cloudy/rainy and we were on the wrong side of the interstate. This past Tuesday on my way back to ABQ I stopped at the east bound area which is closer to some of the formations.

I only stopped for a few minutes and used the infrared as it was already later morning. Think of it as a recon more than a photo shoot.

The rest area is between exits 318 and 322 along I-10. The town of Dragoon is nearby. There is also a Dragoon Mtn and a Dragoon Pass nearby.

I'm hoping someday to get back there to explore more and hopefully hit it at a better time of day.

The name of the rest area is Texas Canyon Rest Area. There is a plaque at the area which reports that in 1872 near Dragoon Springs, about 4 miles south at Council Rocks, a treaty was signed with Cochise, leader of the Chiricahua Apache. The Apaches had waged war from and eluded capture in the Dragoon Mountains.

I'm amazed how many areas at Red Rocks are now closed. The area I took this, you used to be able to get close to the rocks and climb around on the formations, but due to the mass movement of people wanting to live here, the state has been closing many areas down to the public. I don't mind people moving here but PLEASE RESPECT these amazing places that make our state so great to live in. If I see another rock or tree with graffiti on it I just might loose my shit!

this area called, Gharh Jungle.infamous for terrorist activities by Mao party.the pic. taken from a running bus.

I had to post this sign because I love both the actual sign and the innocence of the idea of it. But it is an anachronism.

In the past few years, there have been few or no Great Grays here. Indeed, yesterday I saw 4 Great Grays in my outing but none here. Additionally, organizations like The Cornell Lab's Ebird have been successfully lobbied to fudge its reported Great Gray Owl sighting locations to impede excessive visitation.

Pittsburgh has an area of 58.3 square miles (151 km2), of which 55.6 square miles (144 km2) is land and 2.8 square miles (7.3 km2) (or 4.75%) is water. The 80th meridian west passes directly through the city's downtown. The city is on the Allegheny Plateau, within the ecoregion of the Western Allegheny Plateau The Downtown area (also known as the Golden Triangle) sits where the Allegheny River flowing from the northeast and Monongahela River from the southeast form the Ohio River. The convergence is at Point State Park and is referred to as "the Point." The city extends east to include the Oakland and Shadyside sections, which are home to the University of Pittsburgh, Carnegie Mellon University, Chatham University, Carnegie Museum and Library, and many other educational, medical, and cultural institutions. The southern, western, and northern areas of the city are primarily residential. Many Pittsburgh neighborhoods are steeply sloped with two-lane roads. More than a quarter of neighborhood names make reference to "hills," "heights," or similar features. The steps of Pittsburgh comprise some 712 sets of outdoor public stairways with 44,645 treads and 24,090 vertical feet. They include hundreds of streets composed entirely of stairs, and many other steep streets with stairs for sidewalks. Many provide vistas of the Pittsburgh area while attracting hikers and fitness walkers.

Reykjanesvíti is the oldest lighthouse in Iceland, located on the tip of the Reykjanes Peninsula.Reykjanesvíti lighthouse was first build in 1878, although it was damaged beyond repair just eight years later following a major earthquake. The current building was raised in 1907–1908 and, save from having gas installed in 1929, has remained little-changed since.

Due to the erosion of the cliff on which it stands, however, it is expected that a new building will be needed in the next few years.Reykjanesviti is within sight of the geothermal area Gunnuhver, which holds the largest mud pot in Iceland. This area has a fascinating folklore, said to be the eternal prison of a ghost who terrorised the Reykjanes Peninsula.

Marina Bay is a bay near Central Area in the southern part of Singapore, and lies to the east of the Downtown Core. Marina Bay is set to be a 24/7 destination with endless opportunities for people to “explore new living and lifestyle options, exchange new ideas and information for business, and be entertained by rich leisure and cultural experiences”. It is here where the most innovative facilities and infrastructure such as the underground “common services tunnel” are built and where mega activities take place.

Area #2 of my collection. Most of these shoes are a little older and have been worn a few times.

Excerpt from wellingtoncityheritage.org.nz:

Built in 1910, this three storey Edwardian Baroque edifice has significant architectural value for its lively and decorative Beaux Arts façade and is one of the most distinctive buildings in the Cuba Street Heritage Area.

This building has historic value for its association with the Barber family, who operated their dye business from this site for over 70 years, and also for its designer, notable Wellington architect William Crichton. This building also has a long history of use as a physical culture and dance studio, has been home to Footnote Dance since the 1980s.

This distinctive building is part of a significant group of Edwardian commercial buildings on Cuba Street which make significant contribution to the Cuba Street Heritage Area.

The building façade has had relatively few intrusive modern alterations and retains substantial areas of original building fabric.

The Barber’s Building is a three storey Edwardian Commercial building and the lively, decorative Edwardian Baroque /Beaux Arts façade is one of the finest and most elaborate in the Cuba Street Heritage Area.

The original ground floor shop fronts and rusticated columns have unfortunately been replaced in a mish-mash of styles and finishes, but the façade above verandah level is substantially unaltered. The façade here is carefully articulated and the windows and ornamentation are deeply modelled. The unique pair of top storey lunette windows high-light the symmetrical composition of its façade and make a singular contribution to the character of the street. The square-headed and segmentally-arched windows on the upper floors are also prominently moulded and recessed. The façade is notable for the combination of rendered brick ornamentation, and for the polychromatic bands of rendered and plain facing brick, and three of these elaborate polychromatic pilasters tie the central window elements together. Although the polychromatic effect has been altered at the base of the pilasters where the brick and render has been over-painted. The building is capped by an arched pediment, with a heavily-decorated cornice below, and stucco festoons. This intriguing façade makes a strong positive contribution to the lively Edwardian character of the Cuba Street precinct.

The building is comprised of two separate retail units on the ground floor, and dance/ ballet studios on the floors above. The interior retains significant areas of original building fabric particularly in the stairwell which features a fine timber stair, skirting, panelled doors (including ironmongery) and the t&g timber wall linings.

On the Stubai Glacier, also known as the „Kingdom of Snow“, you will experience a fascinating world of snow and ice. Due to its high altitude of 1750 to 3210 meters, there is no shortage of snow in Austria’s largest ski area. In fact, snowfall from October to June is guaranteed in this year-round ski area. The variety of pistes (in the categories blue, red and black) and ski-routes means that skiers of all abilities can find their perfect slope. There are modern lifts and cable cars on hand to help you get the most out of your skiing and snowboarding; these include: gondola lifts, chair lifts (six, quad and double), towing and children’s lifts as well as magic carpets for children. In the summer, the glacier is also popular with hikers and mountaineers. From the Zuckerhütl, the glacier’s highest mountain, you get an incredible panoramic view of countless other summits, stretching as far as the eye can see.
