Many poets, authors and artists have been influenced and fascinated by the Stockholm Archipelago. Among them are August Strindberg, Ture Nerman, Roland Svensson, Ernst Didring and Aleister Crowley.

The inhabitants in the archipelago from around mid 1400 up to the time when the second world war ended, were combined farmers and fishermen. The fishing in the outer archipelago was quite intensive during springtime and autumn during 1450 until mid 1800, and a lot of fishermen lived for long periods in the outer islands because of the long distance to their permanent houses in the inner archipelago. The combined farming and fishing culture lasted until around 1950-1955 when the younger generation, born during and directly after the war started to leave the archipelago and look for jobs in the cities on the main land. Today most of the small farms on the islands are closed and the fish industry has almost disappeared.

Nyksund is a coastal fishing village on the northern part of the island of Langøya in the Vesterålen archipelago. The only road connection to the isolated village is from the south, coming from the village of Myre, about 10 kilometres (6.2 mi) away.

People have been living in Nyksund since before recorded history. Until the late 18th century, the population was scarce, but with the rise of commercial trade, Nyksund became an important centre for hundreds of fishermen coming to exploit the rich cod fisheries nearby.

As bigger vessels and road transportation rendered the port obsolete due to its shallow waters and poor road, Nyksund became an isolated outpost with a dwindling population. Finally, measures were made to shut the place down. During the 1970s, the city became a ghost town.

With the turn of the 21st century, after 30 years of erosion, the lights were turned back on in Nyksund. New citizens found the old houses worthwhile. In 2003, the main obstacle to new activity in Nyksund was inadequate infrastructure - be it roads, postal service, or utility services. Modern Nyksund boasts a summer population of 30 to 40 people and about a half-dozen hardy souls remain throughout the harsh winters. be it roads, postal service, or utility services. Sandhamn (Swedish for "Sand Harbour") is a small settlement in the Stockholm Archipelago, approximately 50 km (30 mi) east of Stockholm. Sandhamn is located on the island Sandön ("Sand Island"), which is, however, colloquially referred to as Sandhamn.

One of the most important natural ports in the archipelago with easy access to the Swedish capital, Sandhamn has been popular for pleasure boating since the late 19th century. It is known for its tavern, its clubhouse, and its harbour.

Snarøysundet - Oslofjorden.

Taken on the island of Nåttarö (I've seen it spelled Nåtarö, too), south of Nynäshamn, which is south of Stockholm. It's about a 1.5 hour train/bus ride from Stockholm. Then the ferry ride is about 25 minutes.

This island is known for it's sand. There's also a sheltered harbor where boaters come every summer and just park for a week or many weeks. They relax, let the kids play, socialize in the evenings....

Julis Gillard, The Australian Prime Minister has stomped all over parliament and democracy.

The Australian parliament voted against her plan to send asylum-seekers to Malayasia, and Julia Gillard is defying parliament by continuing her plan.

This makes her a dictator akin to Stalin with his archipelagos.

The Stockholm archipelago is the largest archipelago in Sweden, and the second-largest archipelago in the Baltic Sea. The archipelago extends from Stockholm roughly 60 kilometres (37 mi) to the east. Today the archipelago is a popular holiday destination with some 50,000 holiday cottages (owned mainly by Stockholmers). Boating is an extremely popular activity.
