Ertholmene, generally called Christiansø, is a small archipelago situated approximately 18 km northeast of Bornholm in the Baltic Sea. Its permanent population is 90 (as of 2014) and its area is 39 hectares (0.39 km2). Ertholmene belongs to Denmark and has the country's easternmost point.

Ertholmene consists of three main islands, Christiansø (named after King Christian V), Frederiksø (named after King Frederick IV) and Græsholm, plus a number of minor rocks and skerries. The best known of the latter are Tat and Østerskær, Denmark's easternmost point. Christiansø makes up 22.3 hectares, Frederiksø 4, and Græsholm 11 hectares. Only Christiansø and Frederiksø are inhabited, while Græsholm is a bird reserve. The sound between Christiansø and Frederiksø, a well-sheltered natural harbour, is crossed by a pedestrian bridge that is pulled aside to accommodate larger vessels.

Today I finally took a boat to the Archipelago off the coast of Göteborg. I went to Vrångö & Donsö & it was beautiful.

Got more photos but I am going to drink beer now.

After sailing through the archipelago the ferry arrived in Helsinki on a bright spring morning.

The Stockholm archipelago is the largest archipelago in Sweden, and the second-largest archipelago in the Baltic Sea. The archipelago extends from Stockholm roughly 60 kilometres (37 mi) to the east. Today the archipelago is a popular holiday destination with some 50,000 holiday cottages (owned mainly by Stockholmers). Boating is an extremely popular activity.

Many Swedes have cabins and many of those cabins are in the beuatiful Stockholm archipelago. Most of the cabins are primitiave: no indoor bathrooms. Don't don't have running water. Most don't have heat. However, they're out in nature and provide a quiet place to commune with nature (and some other vacationing Swedes).

This has to be my favorite spot in the Stockholm archipelago (25,000 islands and all). Four years ago, when I first moved to Stockholm, I took this picture. Now I have taken this one, without realizing it was the same spot (Norrsund).

With this picture I say goodbye... I'm heading back to the island of Gräskö in a few hours. See you next week. Have a good one!

The Sun rises over Cape Horn, the southernmost headland of the Tierra del Fuego archipelago of southern Chile. It is where sailing ships rounded the Horn for years carrying trade around the world prior to the construction of the Panama Canal. It is infamous for strong winds, large waves, strong currents and icebergs, and there have been many shipwrecks and lives lost here over the years. Rogue waves have been known to exceed 100 feet. We were lucky to have calm seas and mild winds during the several hours we spent here before departing for Antarctica.

The Name Cape Horn comes not from the shape of the island, but from the Dutch city of Hoorn.

I'll be gone for just a few days, but I'll try to check in.

Visiting the larger islands in the archipelago is easy all year round, but during winter period the routes depend on the ice conditions. Several companies have regular routes.

The town of Vaxholm was established in 1558, when King Gustav Vasa bought some farms from Count Per Brahe the Elder.

In the 1880s, it became a popular spa town, and many wooded summer houses were built by people from Stockholm.

It was not until 1912 that it allowed houses to be built from materials other than wood, giving the town a distinctive appearance.
