Trying out a bit of 'Retro' light painting! Can't beat the classic Space Invaders™

I can safely say that the 365 beat me! I'll start one again next January.

Nothing says summer fun like fairs and carnivals. Games like this seem to be a staple at every fair that I've ever been to and, while fun, they can be quite challenging.

These long cold winter months often makes me think back fondly of the fun and carefree days of summer.

This was drawn during the Kamuna museum night. It was a wait to get a view of the machines with so many gamers playing. I drew this before my hands got cramp after four hours playing!

I was invited by the editors of Merge magazine to design the cover of their May 2009 edition. The brief was to deliver pixel art, illustrating an article about jobseeking in the current economic climate.

This image began with a screenshot from the NES classic, Duck hunt. A few tweaks and a new colour palette later, enter 'Job Hunt'. The ladder and stairs remind me of Donkey Kong a little too.

If you enjoy my pixel art, check out Dead Pixel Designs... I've made some unique merchandise featuring original pixel art, including this design and many others... on shoes, apparel and even recipe binders. I will be adding plenty of new designs in the coming months, so keep an eye on that page ;)

Feeling a little sad that the 3-day weekend is almost over. However, I was ridiculouly pleased to find this in the game room of the movie theater.

A claw crane, also called a variety of other names such as claw machine, skill crane or teddy picker, is a type of arcade game known as a merchandiser, commonly found in video arcades, supermarkets, restaurants, movie theaters, shopping malls, and bowling alleys. This set of claw cranes was seen at the Empire State Fair.

The ability of the crane machine owner to set features such as a payout percentage raises the question of whether these machines should be considered gambling devices in a legal sense, alongside slot machines. In the United States, claw vending machines are typically specifically exempted from statutes which regulate gambling devices, contingent upon compliance with certain rules, usually dependent upon the wholesale value of the prizes inside being below a certain threshold, and if these prizes are actually retrievable with the claw.

can't say i was a big fan, but certainly a large portion of my tiffin money went into these arcade game machines.

those names sound familiar?

i was actually surprised to find one of these game machines in camp-bazaar, inside a narrow fusty dark room with the entrance curtained by a dirty jute rug. it's like the atmosphere is not changed a bit – booming sound from those game fx, clanging coins, excited shouts of boys, joy and frustration – it's all like my own boyhood.

and i thought video games are now played only on those fancy parlors and personal computers/game machines.

Yesterday was the first Friday night shoot of the year in lightGIANTS studio .... I borrowed several arcade games from retro-games. A very special thanks to Miss Southern Germany 2011 who came at very shot notice to fill in for a sick model.

Location: MEOW WOLF: House of Eternal Return, Santa Fe, Santa Fe County, New Mexico, United States of America.

MEOW WOLF is an interactive thematic recreational local art exhibition. Though that perhaps is not most digestible form to describe MEOW WOLF. MEOW WOLF is a complication of pieces art made into a single interconnected interactable world. In practice, it is a maze where you can explore different paths tied by a story. The exhibition itself is called the House of Eternal Return. Although I had little time, it was nevertheless a fun experience that encourages exploration and interaction within an interactive world.

Our whole family was sad to hear about the passing of Adam West. Out of all the actors who played Batman, his version was my favorite. On Saturday, our kids wore Batman T-Shirts and asked to have their picture taken by this Batman arcade game at the Tinsel Town theater in Lubbock. (Posted to Facebook.)

Check out Homer's head with the donut-feeding chute, and Bart on the little skateboard in this Simpsons-themed arcade game I found recently.

While not part of The Simpsons movie Kwik-E-Mart promotion, I thought I'd add these pics to this set. I ran across this coin-fueled arcade game at the Dave & Busters in Frisco, Texas. You put the coin in the slot, aim it, and depending where the coin falls in the game, you get points.

I made this concept a few years ago for a top-down shooter "Gatling Gears" when working at the Vanguard Games studio.

I've always played with the idea making a Lego version of it but never started the project...so better late than never.

15/52 - Get Low Down - 52 Weeks of Photography with Friends Project - I'm playing catch up on all things photographic so these are a bit out of synch. Still need to upload some recent images, but seem to be short of time.

I'm working on two new photography projects, which are taking up a lot of my time, and LG (my now 10 year old daughter - when did that happen?!!) has a very busy schedule these days that sees me running around playing Mum's Taxi, ferrying her to school, drama rehearsals, sports practise, clarinet lessons, playdates and heaven knows what else!

Thank you, as ever, for all the comments and favourites - they are always appreciated and one day I WILL manage to catch up with my amazing contacts.

The Arcade Shredder set just arrived today. I can't believe I got both of these sets. Thank you NECA for having this still available. This was my favorite arcade game.
