I made this concept a few years ago for a top-down shooter "Gatling Gears" when working at the Vanguard Games studio.
I've always played with the idea making a Lego version of it but never started the project...so better late than never.

I wanted to contrast two styles of machine. On the left is a classic or retro style claw machine. On the right we have the "LOOK AT ME!" version for the 21st century ADHD crowd. Ain't progress great?
When I shot this, it reminded me of an old arcade game. I couldn't remember the name so I did a quick google search and found it - Missile Command! I wasn't sure if anyone else would even be aware of it but there is a whole Wikipedia page dedicated to it, so I guess it was pretty popular.
An interesting fact from Wikipedia:
"When the game was originally designed, the six cities were meant to represent six cities in California: Eureka, San Francisco, San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara, Los Angeles, and San Diego.
While programming Missile Command, the programmer, Dave Theurer, suffered from nightmares of these cities being destroyed by a nuclear blast."
In retrospect, I think for us kids the game was a good way to psychologically control the fear of the nuclear holocaust that seemed imminent in the late 70s and early 80s.
Coincidentally, the city of San Luis Obispo mentioned in the Wiki quote above is just over the ridge - almost directly in the trajectory of those missiles.

This is a model of the original PAC-MAN arcade game cabinet from 1980. It has lights to illuminate the screen and the white sign just like the real arcade machine.

Mom can I have a dollar?
Arcades have a certain charm to them. Perhaps they are a dyeing breed these days with the advancement of technology, but I can remember a time growing up when they where held in high esteem. Showing off your skills on the latest version of Street Fighter at the local arcade was still considered cool in some circles. Most of the that has all gone the way side, with the advent of smart phones and better console game systems, but I still enjoy a good game of Ms. Pac-Man now and again.
This is a 8 to 9 second exposure, taken with a cable release and the Holga on a gorilla pod strapped around the top of a chair. My iPhone meter gave me various readings between 1 to 3 seconds and decided to do a longer exposure to be safe. I am really quite pleased with the results, particularly the detail visible in the screen to far left in the photograph.

Loving the fonts on this vintage arcade game.
The (few) times I have driven the (correct) route to Fort Bragg, I have passed several places I always mentally note to stop at (one day) to photograph, including this Laundromat.
Tonight the decision very well could have killed me. As I was lollygagging around, photographing the whole place, I was very doubtful of the impending "winter weather warnings" for Charlotte and the surrounding areas. I mean, come on, it has been 70 degrees and hardly ever snows here. Well, it did, I had to drive in the worst conditions of my life. It all very well could have been prevented if the lure of the camera wasn't there. ;)
