After our steep climb we arrived at the area where all the monkeys were gathering, approximately 120 Japanese macaques to be precise. We were advised not to stare at them and not to touch them, since they were still considered to be wild animals.
Arashiyama (嵐山) is a pleasant, touristy district in the western outskirts of Kyoto. The area has been a popular destination since the Heian Period (794-1185), when nobles would enjoy its natural setting. Arashiyama is particularly popular during the cherry blossom and fall color seasons.
The haunted tunnel in Arashiyama, Kyoto. This is a disused railway tunnel that was converted to a road. It runs to a small village in the mountains called Kiyotaki. It has the reputation of being one of the most haunted places in Japan. Several people have warned me quite earnestly not to walk through the tunnel but rather take the old route that goes over the mountain.
I don't think I would ever ride one of those. I mean, the guys are really cute, but it would give me a "colonial feeling" which I don't like.
I found that one of the best moments to visit the, often crowded, Arashiyama bamboo forest is when it is raining. The place is almost empty, you can take your time for every picture....
...and sometimes, you can see memorable moments like this.
Love the long exposure, it is poetry.

This is in the NW of Kyoto. It is just one path of about 200m with bamboo trees. It is nice but I expected to be a huge forest of bamboo where can get lost and you could feed and take selfies with Panda's. It aint like that.

Teruhide-san took me to Arashiyama for my second walk through the bamboo forest. Sadly, the clouds were so thick and the rain so heavy that it was as dark as night under the bamboo... which meant that I didn't get very many photos and a lot of the photos I was able to attempt are blurry due to long exposure lengths and no tripod. Oh well, there's always next time! Thanks again for a fantastic day trekking around Kyoto, Teruhide-san! Arashiyama, Kyoto. October 2, 2009.
Foresta di bambù Sagano.
Nessuna foto riesce ad esprimere perfettamente la sensazione e l’emozione che si prova camminando tra una distesa di bambù giganti, che con i loro 50 metri di altezza sembrano quasi sfiorare il cielo.

No photo is able to perfectly express the sensation and emotion you feel walking among an expanse of giant bamboo, which with their 50 meters of height almost seem to touch the sky.

Visit Arashiyama just outside of Kyoto area, during autumn time. Upon arrived, attract by the old fashion bridge and the color of autumn behind the bridge, beautiful scene and nature wonder moment.
I was there the day before with my family and all the other tourists. Overcrowded place during daytime as expected. A classic spot in Kyoto. The only way to enjoy the place was of course to come back as early as possible to avoid the traffic. This is what I did the day after. I took many photos and was about to leave when the sun started to shine through the bamboos. Delightful. I could not resist and started over shooting at different exposures. Magic !
