Burj Al Arab

This is the tallest operating hotel building in the world not counting mixed-use buildings like Jin mao Tower in Shanghai or the unfinished Ryugyong Hotel in Pyongyang

All of the hotel's 202 rooms are two-storey suites, ranging in size from 170 square metres (1,830 square feet) to 780 square metres (8,396 square feet).

The atrium is 180 metres high, one of the tallest in the world.

The Al Muntaha restaurant is located 200 metres above the Persian Gulf, offering great views of Dubai. It is accessed by a panoramic elevator.

The hotel features a total of eight restaurants and bars.

The building's design is influenced by the profile of an Arabian sailing ship.

The building's external lighting schemes, from white light to a multicolored one, change from one to another every 30 minutes expressing the evening's progress.

Burj Al Arab is the world's tallest structure with a membrane facade.

A 24 meter (79 feet) wide helipad projects from the building 210 meters above the ground.

"Burj" is Arabic for "Tower".

The "Assawan Spa" is situated on the 18th floor.

Of shoes--and ships--and sealing-wax--

Of cabbages--and kings--

And why the sea is boiling hot--

And whether pigs have wings.

According to our guide Ayden, only Arab women fully cover themselves.

A lime-stone house built by Arabs that our family lived in for 4 years (1949-1953) at the abandonned Arab village of El muzera in Israel.

These thick-walled stone houses provided good insulation from the midday heat in summer, by staying cool while the walls warmed up slowly, and then the warm walls kept the interior warm in the evenings, when temperatures began to fall, so it was a sort of primitive air-conditioning.

And as the house was built on a slope, the hillside was just high enough at the back of the house to climb onto the roof, and on summer nights it was rather pleasant to relax there.

An old grape vine grew up along the front wall, and a wooden trellis (which is visible) held the branches about 6ft from the ground in front of the house.

There was no indoor plumbing. The external water pipe that you can see on the right (with a steel drum under the tap) was installed by the early settlers in the second year we lived there (1950).

The picture was taken by me with my father's camera. And my father was just standing in front of the house, watching me take a picture. This could be the first picture I ever took, at the age of 9.

As the sun was shining, exposure would have been around f/11 at 1/50 on ASA 40 or 50 film. The negative is a little under-exposed because the front of the house was not lit by the sun, so theoretically exposure should have been increased. I had to increase contrast and reduce shadow density in PP to get a decent picture.

Burj Al Arab (Arabic: برج العرب‎,Tower of the Arabs) is a luxury hotel located in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. At 321 m (1,053 ft), it is the fourth tallest hotel in the world. Burj Al Arab stands on an artificial island 280 m (920 ft) from Jumeirah beach and is connected to the mainland by a private curving bridge. The shape of the structure is designed to mimic the sail of a ship. Sometimes referred to as "the world's only 7-Star hotel", its star rating is disputed.

I took it from the backside of the "Wild Wadi" water park.

... and no, who said that it should be straight ?

Capturing the marbled hall leading to the main lift that will take you to the rooms and restaurants (from the rooftop Al Muntaha or the underwater Al Mahara). Pay close attention to the decoration: gold-plated ornaments, striking marble patterns, daring illuminated colors. I am not in awe that much, but still, I'm quite thrilled to witness this.

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) (Arabic: دولة الإمارات العربية المتحدة, transliteration: Dawlat Al-Imārāt al-‘Arabīyah al-Muttaḥidah) is a Middle Eastern federation of seven states situated in the southeast of the Arabian Peninsula in Southwest Asia on the Persian Gulf, bordering Oman and Saudi Arabia. The seven states, termed emirates, are Abu Dhabi, Ajman, Dubai, Fujairah, Ras al-Khaimah, Sharjah, and Umm al-Quwain.

The UAE, rich in oil and natural gas, has become highly prosperous after gaining foreign direct investment funding in the 1970s. The country has a relatively high Human Development Index for the Asian continent, ranking 39th globally, and having the 5th highest GDP per capita in the world according to the CIA.

Before 1971, the UAE were known as the Trucial States or Trucial Oman, in reference to a nineteenth-century truce between Britain and several Arab Sheikhs. The name Pirate Coast was also used in reference to the area's emirates in the 18th to early 20th century.

DUBAI, UAE - FEBRUARY 22: In preparation for the Dubai Duty Free Men's Open, tennis legend Andre Agassi of the USA and the World's No. 1 Roger Federer of Switzerland, couldn't resist the temptation to have a friendly 'hit' on the world's most unique tennis court, the Helipad of the Burj Al Arab, the world's most luxurious hotel. Standing 321 metres high on a man made island, the majestic Burj Al Arab is without doubt the most recognizable hotel in the world. The hotel's helipad, which is situated 211 metres high covers a surface area of 415 square metres. Roger Federer is the reigning champion of the Dubai Duty Free Men's Open and is making his third appearance in the tournament. For Agassi this is his first time to appear in the ATP tournament where he has already progressed to the second round having beaten Radek Stepanek of the Czech Republic. The pictures were taken on February 22, 2005, in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

Burj-al-Arab is hotel which half under water and most of the floors are above the ground. It's very popular landmark in Dubai. I took the shot when we went for a walk at night time.
