Now on home rails and nearing its destination, Wisconsin & Southern train JH03 (there was probably a new train number by then, but I still go by the old ones) gets ready to cross WIS-67. That's conductor MFJ blowing the horn.

Goldfield is an unincorporated community and the county seat of Esmeralda County, Nevada, United States, with a resident population of 268 at the 2010 census. It is located about 240 miles (390 km) southeast of Carson City, along U.S. Route 95.
Goldfield was a boomtown in the first decade of the 20th century due to the discovery of gold — between 1903 and 1940, Goldfield's mines produced more than $86 million. Much of the town was destroyed by a fire in 1924, although several buildings survived and remain today, notably the Goldfield Hotel, the Consolidated Mines Building (the communications center of the town until 1963), and the schoolhouse. Gold exploration still continues in and around the town today.

This is a painting of my interpretation of the I.N.S.S. MacArthur from The Mote in God's Eye, by Larry Niven and Jerry Pournelle. I built this as a model in 2000, and it sits on my shelf today. I used a photo of the model as an underlay, which proved convenient. The approaching spacecraft was entirely hand illustrated
Time did not permit us to get around to where the famous "postcard" shot of the Maroon Belles is always taken. They are never-the-less beautiful from this angle as well. Who knows maybe someday I'll go back and get the image I want of these mountains.
My wife and I traveled to Bland, VA for a wedding. I was a passenger while traveling on Interstate 77 and snapped a few pictures.

An early morning slow approach waiting for the the local pilot to board provided opportunities to take coffee and a few exposures at leisure.
Why is everyone looking at me? So, here I am, down by the mighty Speed river taking some spring photos and apparently I started to draw a crowd. Eventually two geese approached within 6' of me and my original subjects - were they going to attack? It did make me pause for a few moments, then I stood up and away they went - whew!

In December 1967 we did a cruise up the Rhine on board MS Nederland, starting in Rotterdam and finishing in Basel, Switzerland. Every night we stopped at a different place, with enough time to get off the ship and do some sightseeing.
During the day while the ship was travelling, we enjoyed the scenery. And the food on the ship. There was also live music at various times.
The week we were there saw several grain trains visit. The shuttle loaders at Moccasin (symbol GVE) and Collins (CIM) both loaded two. Ironically the trains from these elevators were headed for Vancouver (VAW)!. Here's an X-VAWGVE just out of the Surprise Creek tunnel approaching Stanford.
