Institutional buildings are often symbols of the institution themselves.
During the 19th and 20th centuries, bank buildings were designed to appear solid, stable, secure. Libraries appear authoritative, calm and inviting. Courthouses appear authoritative and imposing.
However, many of these symbols changed significantly in the late 20th century. Modern architecture brought new expression to buildings. Many courthouses look like warehouses or airplane hangers. Even the art and decor surrounding courthouses began to provide confusing symbols.
What message does this bench outside of the St. Catharines courthouse deliver? As a bench to sit on, it looks uncomfortable, minimally supportive and even a little bit bleak. Perhaps the message is, we suggest not to linger too long.
It also looks a bit like a cerlox binding. Not sure what message that provides.

One of the new Class 378 dual-voltage London Overground units is seen approaching the new station platforms. These units can work off 750 volts DC third rail or 25,000 volts AC overhead electricity supplies.

The ferry turned left at King Island down Burke Channel. Turning right lead to Labouchere and Dean Channels and back to Ocean Falls.
Usually the way to get onto the bridge is forward from here. But during construction, the approach has been rerouted to the left and then up a steep roadway to the old bridge, which is on the right.
Admiral Sir Max Kennedy Horton, this was his bunk, if i recall correct the lower bunk was for his secretary.
Deep under Liverpool city centre, Western Approaches Command was a major operational command of the Royal Navy during World War II.
The command was responsible for the safety of British shipping in the Western Approaches, a rectangular area of the Atlantic ocean lying on the western coast of Great Britain.
