Our flight home from Cuba gave us a fine view of Toronto. Queen Street runs straight from the lower left to the upper middle.
This is a view of the Hetch Hetchy reservoir in Yosemite National Park. We were going on a wildflower walk along the reservoir. We walked over the Shaughnessy Dam and through a tunnel. Then we notice that a major thunderstorm was approaching. We return to the car.
Two cowl units and an SD75I (CN 2422, CN 2446 & CN 5645) lead CN 149 through the curve at MP 22 of CN's Kingston Sub.
The overhanging sign is at the building housing a bank next door to Clint's. There is a small brook between them.
66 125 gingerly approaches Walsall station with 4L07 11.38 Burton On Trent to Felixstowe. The shed will shortly plunge into the gloom beneath the Hatherton Road multi storey car park before a quick run in dayliight before passing under the Park Street overbridge and the Sadlers Centre.
BR 37673 eases the 6C58 Tavistock Junction Yard to St. Blazey Speedlink towards the Tamar Bridge in early July 1989. The Class 37/5 locomotive had been seen earlier delivering a train of CDA china clay hoppers for transfer to Marsh Mills for loading. The wagons in the consist being taken into Cornwall had not long arrived at Tavistock Junction as the front portion of the overnight Speedlink [6V92] from Coatbridge.

Railfreight liveried 66794 is working the 11:25 Arcow - Pendleton service. It's crossing the river Calder as it nears Turners Lane Junction, Wakefield. All the lush forest in the background has grown over the years on the ash disposal site from Wakefield Power Station.
1st May 2018. Hunslet 0-6-0ST No.7 [works No.2705 from 1945] Beatrice works hard as she approaches Holywell Halt with a Bolton Abbey to Embsay train. The railway is part of the Embsay And Bolton Abbey Steam Railway.
Iowa Pacific E8 515 and a motley collection of passenger equipment approaches Mayfair Crossing, Chicago, headed via Tower A-5, for the storage "yard" at Elk Grove.
The dwarf signal gives a medium approach indication for the awaiting CSX Santa Train behind me after Santa departed from the train and took his place in the Kingsport, TN, Chirstmas parade on the evening of November 19, 2016.

The Forster's Tern approaches its mate with a freshly caught minnow from the marsh waters. Both have breeding adult plumage, so I assume this is either courting behavior or just plain kindness and love between mates. Either way it was precious to view and experience...
Glaslyn or 'Blue Lake' in English is a glacial lake in the shadow of Snowdon's summit - the central peak behind the lake. My daughter, Rhiannon, on the right, is crouching down to take a picture with her iPhone.
The 1:00 PM departure from Saranac Lake is on its way to Lake Placid as it approaches Route 86, with fall colors in full bloom in the heart of the Adirondacks. Ex-PRR GP9 AIDX 6076 is giving it all its got as it works hard. Unfortunately it looks like this will be the last autumn in which this, or any train operates on this section of track. The reason for that is that the state of New York has approved a plan to tear out the rails between Tupper Lake and Lake Placid and convert it to a hiking/snowmobile trail. While there are legal challenges to this plan, at the moment it still seems likely that the state's plan will go through and the tracks torn up starting next spring, if not earlier.
The 6 pack of helpers is just a mile from the switch that leads to the Savage coal load out at Price, where the crew will duck into the east leg of the wye and let the loaded train pull by so they can cut in 2/3's of the way back.
A BKK Line 61 service approaches its destination at Hűvösvölgy, Budapest with Tatra T5C5K2 unit 4343 leading.

Glacier Gorge, Rocky Mountain National Park, Colorado. At this point, I am now hiking in snow. Behind me is a stream flowing from under the snow. The area of snow above the stream is hazardous to walk on because the snow may collapse dropping the person above into the stream beneath! The mountain above is McHenry Peak. The vertical lines on the lower part of the peak are falls descending to Black Lake. Best viewed large.

MNR 502 is cresting the grade between Phair Jct. and Centerline Road with cars from Huber and McCain's. Two blue GMTX geeps are the power for the train returning to Presque Isle from Easton. Quite a different scene from the day before that saw snow covered track, and near whiteout conditions throughout the day. The crew will eventually add more cars to the train in Presque Isle before ultimately returning to Squa Pan.
Forest trees stand in sunlight while distant ridges are darkened by the clouds of an approaching Sierra storm.
At first look this might just seem like a photograph of a row of trees. It is late in the day, and the warm light lends color to this section of forest at Tuolumne Meadows, and it looks like a pleasant early evening. But that bluish strip at the top of the frame tells a different story. If you look closely you can make out a peak, and the peak is backed by higher peaks that are partially obscured by the dark clouds of an incoming rain storm.
We hear all the time that photography is about light, and there’s truth to that claim. (I would hold that it isn’t “just” about light, but whatever else it may be about usually benefits from wonderful light.) One of my favorite situations is this sort — something nearby in lovely, warm light, but in the background a darker and more dramatic effect.

Some nice dry sunny weather for a change, when 20205/007 with two Railadventure HST power cars 43468/480 approach Eastriggs. working from Carnforth to take two Barrier wagons to Kilmarnock Barclay sidings.
MBTA’s 1031 returned from Boise, ID on CSX Q436 to Framingham on October 11 then was delivered to Middleboro via CSX B726 on October 17. Today October 22, MC 2009 shoves MBTA 1031 into Rochester, MA where they will set up the loco and test it before sending it to the MBTA for more testing and eventually running on commuter trains.

It's dull in High Wycombe but there is brighter weather in the distance as Chiltern's 168 005 approaches the station forming a service from Birmingham.
The pic shows the amount of material the builders of the Great Western & Great Central Joint line had to remove from the hillside to create the formation for four tracks (two platform roads and two 'mains') through the station. Today's Up line here is more or less where the old Down Main was situated. Today Chiltern makes do with just the two platform roads, and as a result each line has a fair amount of curvature (but still, I think, a line speed of 60 mph - back in the day it was 50 on the through roads) and there is a lot of empty space.
