Thank you for your visit!

There is a tense silence on the bridge of the 200-meter-long autocarrier TOSCANA. In dense fog, the sea pilot maneuvers the ship from the North Sea to Bremerhaven. In the Weser estuary, the cruise liner SUPERSTAR LEO emerges from the wall of fog.

A situation that was very realistically recreated here in the simulator of the Institute for Maritime Simulation (IfmS) at Bremen University of Applied Sciences and used to train prospective sea pilots.

I used this filter in post for this shot

Essentially, Duplex creates a Duotone effect that enhances the mood and drama of an image. So for this shot I chose an orangy colour applied to just the grasses.

Some advertising locomotives drive in front of your lens all the time, while others successfully hide from you for years. In my case, this applied to the 185 152, which I have spotted a few times but never managed to take a decent photo of. The Traxx locomotive, which advertises for DB Cargo's big customer Kali + Salz Aktiengesellschaft, is one of DB's oldest advertising locomotives. On 31 August 2024, I walked around the fields between Meisenbach and Neukirchen to find a suitable position for taking pictures. As a complete surprise, the aforementioned 185 152 came ‘round the corner’ with a mixed goods train. It was very photogenic and the first wagons were loaded with large pipes. The photo shown here was taken spontaneously. The location was not ideal, but at least I had my first picture of the colourful advertising locomotive on the memory disk.

View from a central seat of Berliner Dom.

In 1940, the blast waves of Allied bombing blew part of the windows away.

On 24 May 1944, a bomb of combustible liquids entered the roof lantern of the dome.

The fire could not be extinguished at that unreachable section of the dome.

So the lantern burnt out and collapsed into the main floor.

Between 1949 and 1953, a temporary roof was built to enclose the building.

On 9 May 1967 the then still undivided Evangelical Church of the Union decided a committee for the reconstruction of the Supreme Parish and Cathedral Church, then located in East Berlin.

The government of the Eastern German Democratic Republic did not oppose the work of the committee due to the concomitant inflow of Deutsche Marks.

In 1975, reconstruction started, simplifying the building's original design and demolishing the northern wing, the 'Denkmalskirche' – Memorial Church.

Compared by some to the Medici Chapel, it had survived the war completely intact but was demolished for ideological reasons by the communist government due to it being a hall of honour for the Hohenzollern dynasty.

This resulted in scaffolding for restoration appearing on the church while detonation charges were applied to its undamaged rear.

The government also demanded the removal of as many crosses as possible.

The demolition and redesign cost 800,000 marks, while the restoration (done on the cheap) cost just 50,000 marks.

The Berlin Cathedral Building Society now seek to rebuild the Denkmalskirche.

In 1980, the baptistery and wedding church was reopened for services.

The restoration of the nave was begun in 1984.

On 6 June 1993, the nave was reinaugurated in an event attended by Federal Chancellor Helmut Kohl and televised nationwide in Germany.

There has been discussion to restore the dome and surrounding cupolas to their original appearance, but this has not occurred due to lack of funds. (Source: Wikipedia)

(Fuente: Wikipedia)

Surprise!

Believe it or not, my lovebird couple Blu and Luce gave birth to two more children last September 17 and 18 2022 !

The previous ones were born just 5 months before, on April 16 and 18 this same year. The new little ones are almost identical: the female (here to the right) is a pale pistachio and the male (to the left) is electric green with a deep plum red head and breast.

Here, they were less than 3 weeks old and the photo is rather exceptional as it's one of the very first photos I took of them just out of their nest. They were very sleepy after having had their baby food :-) and their plumage not at all completed.

In this super macro, shot with my potent Fujinon lenses, they just have a beginning of feathers, the rest is a fluffy puff of thin plumes that will fall in the next few weeks to be replaced by their whole plumage.

They are the fruit of the deep love of Blu and Luce, an amazing couple, truly love birds who are full of continuous cares and attentions for each other and they kiss, caress, comb and even feed one another with devotion.

And... Guess what, she is beginning to be nervous because, probably, she wants her nest again, maybe for a new brood!

Supermacro shot with hyperzoom Fujinon lenses, in-door on a bed of little wild daisies, soft spot applied.

It ain't happening for sure since it was summer!

Just a bit O' Fiction for anyone interested in that sort of thing

When Connor Flynn applied to join the Army Aircorp in 1942 the recruiter told him no, he'd not be able to see over the dash. Connor suggested that the man stand on the flight line and he'd take his hat off with his wingtip.

He finished training top of his class and a year and a half later he was an ace three times over.

Called Scrappy by his friends for his tenacity in and out of the cockpit, the fiery redhead found himself on yet another bomber escort mission. The Luftwaffe knew just how far his wing could fly and wouldn't rise to engage until he and his cohorts were forced to turn back for lack of fuel. Connor had had enough. Enough of the repeatedly failed missions, enough of this endless war, enough....On this day he feigned engine trouble and backed out of formation, then climbed to 35,000 feet and throttled his Jug back to save some gas for the hungry turboprop and he waited. Soon enough the order to turn back came and still he waited. Then the scattered calls from the airmen in the B-17's could be heard, it was time. Easing the throttles forward and smoothly dropping below the clouds he soon found the melee ahead. He made out about twenty 109's and they were having their way with the lumbering bombers who he knew, if this kept up they would drop bombs and head home nowhere near their target and they'd all have to do it again tomorrow. Scrappy dove into the fray and scored five more kills having taken the German's by surprise all the while getting cheers from the kids in the bombers, but eventually he got raked turning for the next pair ahead. White smoke billowed from the engine cowling, a sure sign that water was getting into the oil, and he turned back toward England. He knew that he wouldn't make it, of course, but the fight was over for him, even now two Messerschmitt's were lined up on his tail, but they didn't fire. They were waiting for him to bail out so that they could drill him in his chute. They'd no doubt seen the rows of swastika's painted on his fuselage and were now toying with him. The engine temp light blared red in his eyes and the nose dipped on the crippled plane, "God, I love flying," thought Scrappy, "There's nothi"

Yes, I know that this isn't a P-47, sadly there were none at the McChord Air Show. I wanted to talk about the processing though. My friend Wayne has a painting that's about 30x60 on his wall by Barrie Clark that is just amazing. It is coming out of daylight to the viewers right and flying into clouds/smoke/certain death, it grabs your heart. Look it up, the link is in the first comment box.

Anyway, this is just a dirty sidewalk, that gives the impression of a texture applied on the picture!

NJ Transit's latest heritage unit on display at the "Meet Our Rail Fleet" event in Hoboken Terminal. 4202 looks sharp in a fresh coat of Pennsylvania-Reading Seashore Lines dark green paint. This paint scheme is a mix of the simple round logos applied to PRSL GP38s and the serif lettering applied to most classes of PRSL Baldwins. The compromise makes sense, as the GP38 scheme was very spartan and they were not used in passenger service, unlike the Baldwins. 4202 was displayed along with a restored Lackawanna caboose that is part of the URHS collection. One World Trade stands tall in lower Manhattan, visible over the nose of 4202.

Its exhaust billowing in the chilly air, suggesting much more power than is really being applied to the rails here, Soo Line 1003 backs out of its base at Hartford, Wisconsin, on Wisconsin & Southern's Milwaukee Sub. As usual, the MILW and Soo cabeese bring up the rear. The crew inside would be kept busy flagging crossings.

Power is applied to 68018 leading the 6Z95 STP 16:00 Winfrith to Crewe Coal sidings with 68016 bringing up the rear. The Network rail staff who operated the ground frame to allow the service to join the down main line can be seen in the background (in the distance).

The traffic conveyed in 10 PFA flats loaded with cabriolet containers is low level radioactive waste in sealed stainless steel drums.

This service initially ran down to Dorchester South in order to reverse and gain the up line, returning back through Winfrith about 25 minutes after departure from the sidings at 16:00.following the passage of a unit on the down main.

This was the second run of this service this year, the inaugural service running on the 24 March 2022.

This week I posted also a topview shot of a similar immature fungus 'Chondrostereum purpureum' and after a few days I went back to see how it was developing, but it was gone already.

Luckily there were other immature ones. I choose this one to follow. I must say that I like this beginning appearance very much. ;-)

After a few days this one looks like this.

"Silver leaf is a fungal disease of trees caused by the fungus plant pathogen Chondrostereum purpureum. It attacks most species of the rose family Rosaceae, particularly the genus Prunus. The disease is progressive and often fatal. The common name is taken from the progressive silvering of leaves on affected branches. It is spread by airborne spores landing on freshly exposed sapwood. For this reason cherries and plums are pruned in summer, when spores are least likely to be present and when disease is visible. Silver Leaf can also happen on poming fruits like apples and pears. Plums are especially vulnerable.

In the past the name Stereum purpureum Pers. was widely used for this fungus, but according to modern taxonomy it is only distantly related to Stereum, actually belonging to order Agaricales whereas Stereum is in order Russulales.

After starting as just a crust on the wood, the fruiting structure develops undulating intergrowing brackets up to about 3 cm broad, which have a tough rubbery texture. The edges and fertile lower surfaces show a fairly vivid violet colour while the fungus is growing, and the upper surfaces have a grey aspect (sometimes with zonation) and are covered with whitish hairs. After a week or two the fructification dries out, becomes brittle, and turns a drab brown or beige. Infected wood can be recognized because it is stained a darker tint.

The spores are rounded cylinders approximately 5-8 µm x 3-4 µm in size. The hyphal structure is monomitic with clamp connections.

It is often found on old stumps and dead wood, but can also be a serious parasite of living trees. As well as plum trees it attacks many other broad-leafed species (other Prunus, apple, pear, willow, poplar, maple, hornbeam, plane, oak, elm, lilac, and many others).Occasionally it also infects conifers (fir, spruce, Thuja, ...).Geographically it is roughly speaking just as widespread as its hosts - it is common in woods, orchards and tree plantations in temperate climates.

Chondrostereum purpureum is commercially available as a method of combatting forest "weed" trees such as red alder, aspens and other species. The fungus is applied directly to the weed trees in a nutrient paste which can be stored and handled conveniently. According to a report of the Canadian Pest Management Agency, the use of this control method will only have a limited impact on non-target trees since the fungal spores are ubiquitous anyway and healthy trees are resistant to attack." - WiKi

- WiKi

Scientists now know that there are about 100 billion stars in our galaxy, and about 100 billion galaxies in the visible universe. So the likelyhood of there being other forms of life out there, even if the odds are one in millions, then there would be millions of stars systems supporting life. ∆

my client had already purchased the sectional before she called me in. She was unhappy with the look and was about to get rid of it and start again. I like a challenge so I decided to keep it and make the room as big and sexy as the new sectional. wallpaper, a new rug, custom toss cushions, sexy new armchair and tables have upped the interest. We have a large arc lamp coming and something for the wall but the room really pops now. :)

i applied an action, Grunge Glow, from Photo BB to this photo of a barrel racer taken last year here in Brunswick, ME. HSS

That stairs is all that remains of the former Château de Bécon at Courbevoie, Haut-de-Seine department, France.

photo featured in an article encouraging designers to use COLOR photography in their advertisements.

While I am not a fan of hot weather, Death Valley National Park has to be one of my favorite National Parks in the US. There is so much unique geology there to keep a landscape photographer busy for years. One such place is known as "The Racetrack" that showcase these amazing "moving rocks". Sadly over the years, this location has become more popular, which also means more idiots are making the drive down the 27 mile 4x4 road to get there and causing damage on the track itself. Earlier this year I noticed missing rocks, fake tracks where individuals drug rocks by hand and an unbelievable amount of foot prints (you are not allowed to set foot on the playa when it rains). If you get a chance to visit, I do recommended seeing it atleast once...but do it soon, because I fear the damage is only going to get worse.

Photo Editing Info:

I used a small Lightroom plugin called LRENFUSE to blend three raw files together. In Lightroom I then adjusted contrast, clarity and applied a slight warm glow to the mud play using the local adjustments brush. In the sky, I adjust vibrance, contrast and saturation. I then jumped into Photoshop and used +onOne Software 's Perfect Effects 3 to pull out the texture and detail on both the mud play and the rock separately.
