This was intended to be part of the Stand Up for Peace Challenge last week but it took me a bit to figure out :D It's about the best homage I could to the Indian Holi Festival. For those that don't know and in short it's basically a festival to celebrate love. After I thought about the challenge a bit, I got to thinking: standin up for peace is awesome, but even better if you just applied this to all aspects of your life. Stop hating on others and stop hating on yourself. If everyone took a grip more time putting others before their own insecurities, then maybe there would be no need to stand up for peace. Maybe we would already have achieved it.

The name, first applied long ago, simply means "little dun-colored (gray-brown) bird," a good description of the Dunlin in winter plumage. Spending the winter farther north than most of its relatives, this species is a familiar sight along the outer beaches during the cold months, as far north as New England and even southern Alaska. It is often in large flocks; in flight, these flocks may twist and bank in unison, in impressive aerial maneuvers. In breeding plumage, the Dunlin is so much more brightly colored as to seem like a different bird.

What is special about a Belted Kingfisher?
Belted kingfishers are one of the few bird species where the female is more colorful than the male, sporting a chestnut or rust-colored band across her chest. Males are all blue-gray and white. 2. When looking for a belted kingfisher, listen for their distinct and loud rattling or chattering call.
The belted kingfisher is a large, conspicuous water kingfisher, native to North America. All kingfishers were formerly placed in one family, Alcedinidae, but recent research suggests that this should be divided into three subfamilies. Wikipedia

Applied some light painting here by bouncing in the light off of some other tufa behind us. Was just for a few seconds to provide some low light details in the foreground.
Applied a little light painting bouncing the light into the tall tufa ... and at the same time another photographer out in the dark was using a green laser.
Tagetes is a genus of annual or perennial, mostly herbaceous plants in the sunflower family (Asteraceae). The genus is native of south of México, but some species have become naturalized around the world. The common name in English, marigold, is derived from Mary's gold, a name first applied to a similar plant native to Europe, Calendula officinalis. The most commonly cultivated varieties of Tagetes are known variously as African marigolds or French marigolds, many of which were developed in France. Depending on the species, marigold foliage has a musky, pungent scent, though some varieties have been bred to be scentless. It is said to deter some common insect pests, as well as nematodes. Tagetes species are hence often used in companion planting for tomato, eggplant, chili pepper, tobacco, and potato. Z2_168

Harz - highland area in northern Germany
de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harz_(Mittelgebirge)
The Harz (German: [haːɐ̯ts] (listen)) is a highland area in northern Germany. It has the highest elevations for that region, and its rugged terrain extends across parts of Lower Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt, and Thuringia. The name Harz derives from the Middle High German word Hardt or Hart (hill forest). The name Hercynia derives from a Celtic name and could refer to other mountain forests, but has also been applied to the geology of the Harz. The Brocken is the highest summit in the Harz with an elevation of 1,141.1 metres (3,744 ft) above sea level. The Wurmberg (971 metres (3,186 ft)) is the highest peak located entirely within the state of Lower Saxony.

For Macro Mondays, "Crack."
An approximately 1.25 inch detail from a 48-inch square contemporary painting. The artist laid down a black base, placed string stretched horizontally at intervals, and then applied a thick impasto layer of red acrylic paint. The string was pulled off, cracking the red layer and revealing the under-layer as rough black lines. The gold stripes were applied and the painting was finished with a urethane top coat.

The museum was built between 1893 and 1896 and was designed by Ödön Lechner in the Hungarian Secession style. It has a green roof and the interior is designed using Hindu, Mogul, and Islamic designs. I used to live on the same street back in the 60’s where it is located, and frequently visited the museum.

The Expiatory Church of the Sagrada Familia, known simply as the Sagrada Familia, is a Roman Catholic basilica in Barcelona, Spain, designed by architect Antoni Gaudí. Begun in 1882, it is still under construction (November 2016). It is Gaudí's masterpiece and the greatest exponent of Catalan modernist architecture.
The Sagrada Familia is a reflection of Gaudí's artistic plenitude: he worked on it for most of his professional career, but especially in his later years, where he reached the culmination of his naturalistic style, synthesizing all the solutions and styles he had tried up to that point. Gaudí achieved perfect harmony in the interrelationship between structural and ornamental elements, between plasticity and aesthetics, between function and form, between content and container, achieving the integration of all the arts into a structured and logical whole. The Sagrada Familia has a Latin cross plan, five central naves, a three-aisled transept, and an apse with seven chapels. It boasts three façades dedicated to the Birth, Passion, and Glory of Jesus. When completed, it will have 18 towers: four at each portal, making a total of twelve for the apostles, four over the transept invoking the evangelists, one over the apse dedicated to the Virgin, and the central dome tower in honor of Jesus, which will reach 172.5 meters in height. The temple will have two sacristies next to the apse and three large chapels: the Assumption Chapel in the apse and the Baptism and Penance Chapels next to the main façade. It will also be surrounded by a cloister designed for processions and to isolate the temple from the exterior. Gaudí applied a highly symbolic content to the Sagrada Familia, both in architecture and sculpture, dedicating each part of the temple to a religious significance.

Happy Sliders Sunday ... Red Matte processing applied within Lightroom, and then some other tweaks to the sliders.
Thought this brought out the wintry mood here in Maryland.
Luckily this most recent winter storm this weekend just brought rain along the Chesapeake Bay and not snow.
Now hoping the storm pulls away and lets us have some clear skies for the moon show tonight.
Ok, it's that time of year. Low raking morning light (without needing to get up at "daft o'clock") and the leaves are starting to fall.. Driving back on the school run, I had 10 minutes to spare -- so pulled over at the local park. Grabbed this and applied a lot pp work to 1) try and enhance the image and 2) fix the fact I blended 3 exposures but didn't use the self-timer so half the image is misaligned over on the right...
As I drove away, at the top end of the park, I saw far better photo oppurtunities pass by... But, it was too late, my 10 minute window was up..
Laurent Trezegnies’s sculptures are largely conditioned by a consideration of places of intervention and by a desire to modify the way in which they may be understood. For Art Public Liège, he developed an installation using lashing straps stretched between the base of the two piers of the Saucy footbridge and the structure of its deck. The red lines thus define two beams which radiate upwards. There are games with the presence of the river: oppositions with the blackness of its waters; reflections with its surface; of resonances with the movement of waves. “I work on the expressive richness of the line, on its interpretations. With a piece like this, I question how drawing can be applied to environmental forms to expand, renew, enrich the perception of the place and offer a new vibration. As in most of my interventions, the materials are industrial, those whose expressive power is generally held to be non-existent. In addition, the straps modify the frequency of the wind and bring a sound dimension. "
The black livery applied to 6233 Duchess of Sutherland was not to all tastes but I didn't mind it although I preferred the green.
Heading north on the WCML at Brock on 22/5/2010
A group of us were stood on the footbridge over the M6 when a bloke wandered in and set up in the middle of the field and ignored requests to move to join us.This was inconsiderate but also pretty stupid as the farmer was busy cutting the grass and headed straight for him as the train approached so he had to shift sharpish anyway. He is nicely hidden by the tractor on this shot although it was easy enough to clone him out if necessary
