Experiment exploring the application of acrylic and oil paint. Top row is painting a sphere using brush strokes, then stippling in the middle row, and the last sphere I decided to use a paint spreader on the oil to additionally see if I could render a spherical object user a flat tool. The acrylic feels more pushy and wet compared to the oil which feels much more organic when I try and use it. I like the colours more as well in oil paint because the acrylic to me feels more artificial in its saturation. I find it hard to apply the oil and blend colours as the layers underneath become revealed when i try to work into the colours. Oil paint has a quality that makes it not mix as easily compared to acrylic. I think that the painting process would work better when done over a long time allowing for multiple layers to be added.
I found out with research that oil paint can be applied "fat on lean" which explains why it felt so difficult to blend colours. This is because I applied the paint thick on the first layer, this means there is more oil in the pigment and dries slower. When I added more layers over this fat first layer, the drying process is halted even further and the first layer stays wet rather than drying, leading to the the unwanted mixing of colours. To achieve the effect I want I have to use a medium to thin the paint and make it dry faster.
Additionally I learnt about the warm and cool colours in oil paint and how that links to the hues and outcome when mixing. Cool colours have small amounts of blue in them such as Prussian blue and Cerulean Blue, while warm colours have a small amount of red or yellow such as Cadmium Red which has a bit of orange. Mixing colours together require knowledge of their temperature so the resulting colour is the right hue.

Idea is that you spin the TyKu branded bottle and the application randomizes your friend’s list for the bottle’s end to land on.
