Just out of Holbrook, AZ the Apache Railroad Alco's throttle up showing just what Alco's are known for!

Two AAC Apache helicopters seen coming into land on Lossiemouth's Runway 28. These are based at Kinloss for the duration of a week or so for an exercise.

Finally. I had been dismissing the Apache Grasshopper, Hippopedon capito, as another nearly identical grasshopper until now....but apparently it does not range north of Pueblo County, either, so I rarely see it anyway. Pueblo Reservoir Wildlife Area, Colorado. October 5, 2019.

The Apache looks even more like a Triumph from behind. I can't help thinking this was a missed opportunity and would have been much more successful than the Allegro had it been offered in the UK, or alternatively it would have made a natural replacement for the FWD Triumph 1300. Sadly BL never seemed to pay enough attention to what their overseas subsidiaries were doing, although Authi in Spain did adopt the Apache and built it there as the Victoria for the domestic market.

Flew over me last week at lunchtime! Such fab helicopters!

We had two Apache helicopters flying around us here in Sheringham.

Not often you can look into an Apache window as it roars past.

The Apache Trail to Canyon Lake, was my chosen annual birthday ride. I wanted an epic ride to mark the special occasion.

A 60s Chevrolet Apache pickup truck lies abandoned at a classic car junkyard in rural Georgia. Nature always finding creative ways to reclaim her space amidst steel, glass, rubber, and plastic.

The Apache first flew in 1975 and replaced the Cobra in service with the US Army. Unlike its predecessor, the entire airframe was built for the gunship role and, in particular, tank hunting. For this mission the AGM-114 Hellfire was developed in tandem with the Apache, which could carry up to 16. To further supplement its role, Apaches were heavily armoured.

About the model:

I've built a few Apaches over the years, mostly for my British 1/30 collection. As such, I have a pretty good feel for the Apache. The nose and cockpit were a pig to build, as is a recurring theme with my 1:48 scale helicopters, but I'm pretty happy with the outcome! I will say that the standard angles I use to show off my model don't really flatter this one, so I'll look at getting some more angles and a comparison with the larger scale model: www.flickr.com/photos/39885799@N02/20766147521/in/datepos...

Sitting in the garden this afternoon, there's the unmistakable beat of an Apache approaching. Not one, but two.

Great display.
